ok i got it to skip past the black screen, got to the new game/continue menu, select new game and...black screen again. I think there is a problem with the movies. But this problem only happens after i apply the patch. Any Ideas?

I had to run in software mode, I also had to uninstall my klite codec pack and reinstall the FF7 movie player to get past that.

I think uninstalling the codec pack had the most effect.

ok, its working but ONLY the game. 2 Concerns now. The backgrounds look like a grid. You can seriously see the lines and two...movies still wont work. Once i get all that to work, im golden, cuz it looks damn good.

game is looking BEAUTIFUL!!!! But for some reason...the 1280x1024 patch says the file is write protected so it wont work, and it locks up on movies and cut scenes simply because...they wont load.

i really appologize for all this. I just have two more things and im off. I got the movies to work, they load slow and each scene takes a few seconds to load, but i can live with that. Took some working in regedit, but oh well. Now...I still cant get the 1280x1024 to patch. I dont freakin know why. Id LOVE to see the game in that resolution because if it looks any better then it does now...id drop jaw...even farther. Seriously It looks AMAZING now. And number 2...when i exit the game, is it supposed to restart my computer??

Seriously... it's called the "Edit" button.  When you edit your posts here they are flagged as new posts.

Your movies load up much faster by using the movies on your hard drive tweak.  Then it will not depend on your CD spinning up to play the movies.  The 1280x1024 patch just adds a black bar at the bottom of the screen to fit this resolution simply because many monitors have this resolution supported.  If it runs on the 1280x960, that's fine and will fit a 4x3 monitor full screen.

What type of graphics card are you running?  I had trouble with restarts on an old Radeon card before.  I got it working by putting a fresh .exe and applying the patches again.  Make sure it's running in Win98 compatibility mode.  Last I checked, Radeon cards don't play nice with FF7 and some graphics features, such as Anti-Aliasing which was causing the "grid" effect.  Computer restarts are not supposed to happen.

Hey, I didn't notice, but, when I'm in the Save/Load menu, the char pictures have something.. huh.. strange.
Yeah, their pics have some garbage or something.

I have tried the two patches but it's always the same.

So.. is that common?

Here a picture to see what I am talking about.

EDIT: Of course, I'm using the US version translated to Spanish, by me. (so, don't be confused ^^U)

I know this problem too, i sometimes wondered about it, but never bothered.
Maybe its related to the 640x480 resolution or its textures. Its not a problem about the highres-patch.

*** I found the 'Swirl' patch. It's working now. Thanks. ***

Nice patch. I got a problem though [I have read through a couple of topics and I haven't seen anyone mention this issue].

The Edios clip shows up. I start the game. I see the intro movie. I take control of my character. Everything looks nice/crisp [except the backgrounds ], but as soon as the game tries to enter a battle scene. It crashes.

I don't have any other patches except the 1.02 which is required. I'm also using the second patch, although I obviously installed the first one to begin with. My LCD has a native resolution of 1280x1024.

I disabled the patch [restored the .exe] ran the game and saved at the first check point. I exited the game. Re-applied the 2 High Resolution patches. Loaded up the game ... everything looked fine/crisp again. The tried to enter a battle scene ... it crashed. It don't even get to see the twirl/blurry transition into the battle screen ... it crashes as it is about to do it.

AMD FX-55
NVIDIA 7950 512MB
1.5 GB RAM

Thanks.

Very minor issue I noticed [It doesn't affect gameplay at all. I just wanted to know if it's a known issue and if there's a fix for it]. The Eidos movie and the cut-scenes look normal, but the starting credits just after the Eidos logo look 'tiled'. It looks like the screen is split in 4 and each square is running it's own credits. Any ideas?

It only happens with the High Res patch. If I run 'vanilla' or with the 1.02 it doesn't happen.

Hello my friends!
I know my first post should not be a request, but I'll go introduce myself right after this!^^

It seems that I can't use the high rez patch!
It's been 2 nights i'm here as guest, trying toi found a solution but...  :-(

As a big fan of FFVII, I bought the PC us version and guess what? it didn't work! :P

So I used the 1.02 patch, cleaned all my codec, and it finaly worked... well... not really, all backgrounds are messed up, cut in little squares.

I hoped the high rez patch could solve this, but after the installation the game won't launch!

(all case are with nvidia tnt check)
In 320x240, the game crash after eidos
In 640x480 quarter screen, the game crash after squarsoft
In 640x480, the game launch and quit after less a seconde

In windows 2000 and NT , the game quit after less a seconde
In windows 98/me or 95, I get a black screen, need to ctrl+at+sup

All issus are the same with only one patch, and with the patch of the patch! :P

I've got no other patch installed (exepte reconstruction , but it doesn't affecte the ff7.exe)

I'm in windowsXP family service pack2
NVIDIA geforce 6200 LE

My first goal is to solve the litlle square probleme, even if I can't install the high rez.

When I say square , I mean like Dante66:

The credits acting weird, and certain spell/summon animations not working right is a known issue, and wil most likely never be fixed.

Have you guys tried cranking up AA and AF in your video card's control panel?  How about turning them off?  Playing with other quality/performance settings?

All I know is my FF7 works great... without grid lines.  *shrugs*

If you're talking about the tiling, try turning off your video card's anti-aliasing (AA) and anisotropic filtering (AF). I know this is a sure fix for ATI users.

I would recommend employing dziugo's BattleSwirlFix. It, and many other useful patches, can be found here:

Same problem here, also with nVidia-Card (Geforce 4 MX onboard)

And there isn't any solution for this problem? I didn't turn on AA or AF.

Try the 1.02 patch and the "nvidia tnt" or "nvidia riva 128" option.

Hmm, I already did. Game is patched on 1.02 and no matter which opinion I choose, its the same result.
