Hello, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but a question - I have just completed the Ancient Forest area and came upon TWO Apocalypse swords, and an NPC towards the end who couldn't be interacted with (similarly, I had just recently revisited Midgar and found an NPC like this on a map just past the church).

...is this intended? What's missing?

I am pretty sure I'm on v.1.4, but the 7H version. Also, no lvl 70 cap as I had read..

Hey-o, first off loooove the mod, I decided to replay FFVII in anticipation of the remake, and upon finding this, I've fallen in love with the game all over again.. phenominal work! A quick question - I've looked all over with Google and such but couldn't find my answer - I'm playing version 1.4, and reached the Shinra Mansion. I read the clue about the melody, and played it on the piano, triggering SFX, music change, and the "something has escaped" prompt... but I haven't found anything.. Beat Lamba, recruited Vincent, found Sephy, etc., but no sign of an escaped.. anything.

What gives? :p

Interestingly, it seems my issues (at least up to this point) had nothing to do with the game being 'pirated' (I never actually used the crack, and everything appeared to be identical to my install directory after acquiring from Steam) - it was a setting I overlooked and forget to test unticked -OpenGL Driver config > Rendering > Textures cache. Having it on was causing all of the issues.

That said, it sounds like a fairly useful feature, I wonder if there's any way to get it to work properly..? There is a note in the setting details that states "...cache does NOT update automatically". Perhaps there's something I need to do in order to get the cache straight? I have an older machine (late model i3, 6gbRAM, ATI 667x HD card w/ 2gb dedicated, etc.), so although it handles everything fairly well, I do get some slowdown and such - thinking this feature could help if I can get it to work properly.

I tried this out, and maybe I am just not using it right, but.. chose my steam folder to link to, in my case, a virtual S: drive - then told steam to install to a folder I named there, leading to the somewhat redundant path of "S:\Final Fantasy VII\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII", but the converter fails to recognize my install.. :/

EDIT: skip the VSubst, it's annoying that Steam currently forces it to be done in this manner, but you can simply create a new library folder:

"Head to Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders and click “Add Library Folder”. Navigate to your new Steam library folder and create a new folder within it called steamapps . Then, create a folder in steamapps called common . Head to your current Steam folder and find the folder for the game you want to move."

For me, I already had the virtual drive set up and installed as indicated above to S:\~, as per Steam's own instructions, I deleted everything in that location except Steam.exe, my game folder, (which was erroneously named and filed redundantly, so I cut and paste into--->) steam apps, and userdata. I made a new library folder directly at C:\ and pasted and organized the folders there, updated Steam, and all was well.

Here's Steam's own instructions:  https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

It's the second section labeled "How do I move my existing Steam Installation?". Worked for me, though was a pain in the ass, lol.

Ok, so here's the full scoop, I have purchased this game multiple times and was trying to prep myself and refresh before the official remake hits (... and not buy it a fourth time..) ... so it's possible that my issues were due to using a cracked version (despite trying both with and without the crack installed, and never actually getting the "source file~" error) ... all that said, I now have a clean and legit install from steam, and am about to delete / uninstall the others. The one's a 22gb folder... you say I don't need to worty about copying files and can just delete that / should?

EDIT: I am having an issue with the install directory now and getting the converter to recognize the path - I followed a tip in a previous thread about using Vsubst to get around the forced ~program files x86 install path with steam, but the converter is not finding my FFVII install.

8
Well, on initial install, nothing - I set the mod order, went over some preferences (mostly left to defaults, save for music choice, new threat script, and avatars and BG, etc) ... it didn't really work from the start, though it seems to have only gotten worse, lol. Bear with me, I just made a fresh install literally just a minute ago, about to try patch it fresh and see what happens. Will take better note of settings this time (thanks for your time and reply ^^; )

... No, nothing - I downloaded bootlegger in anticipation, but never ran it and found and went for this instead.

9
.... Ok, so after some impatience I have decided to reinstall... am I able to safely transfer the added files from the modded folder to the fresh one..? After patch prep from the game converter, of course..? Not looking forward to downloading almost 20 gigs again, would mean my whole day has pretty much been wasted, lol.

If this is possible, though I think I can work out much of it, perhaps some specifics so I don't miss anything would be awesome.

So, first of all, thanks so much to this community for all you've done - I know modding and scripting can be incredibly time-consuming, let alone offering help for said work for the layman. Really excited for the remake coming out; I hope to get this stuff working so I can 'prep' :)

Anyway, I followed Tifa's tutorial to the letter, double and triple-checking the mod install order and such. The VERY first time I launched, everything seemed to be working just fine - the opening credits showed with the custom BG I had chosen, new music, etc...  I've been playing around a bit since the initial attempt though before writing this and so things are now a bit fuzzy - but the start screen graphic DIDN'T work, and had the blacked out text from the start (blue text box dialogue that looks redacted - anywhere there's text, it's replaced by solid black boxes). Also noticed a "something very bad happened" error, and basically now the credits BG refuses to show no matter the setting (even no change).

The interesting thing, among my varied attempts to get things working, I tried launching game with a fresh profile and _no_ mods [EDIT: a subsequent attempt at this suggests some mods must have been loaded the first time, as I was given a 'no mods loaded' error - however, I tried with JUST music (anxious heart - pro) and gameplay (New Threat) - same deal..] loaded, and encountered the same issue.. even more frustrating, once or twice I was able to get it to work, but it seemed to be independent of any actual settings, as a minor subsequent tweak - and then revert - caused a loss of this success altogether.

My install order / profile currently -
