Team Avalanche / Time to celebrate! (Model releases)
« on: 2012-12-22 18:26:29 »
So I guess the Mayans were a bunch of idiots and we are still here. If that is not enough reason to celebrate i will give a couple more:

1. I just had a baby girl 2 days ago, yay me!
2. It's Christmas, yo! (Yeah I know I am early.... I am in a good mood so let it go)
3. I get some time off work.

And just because I am in such a good mood... Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, non denominational gift giving time, or whatever else you celebrate

Chibi Cloud

Battle Model

Yes the links have an ad, just click through. I am hoping it may be enough to fund some real hosting.

As for instructions:

Use unlgp/lgp to put the chibi model into char.lgp
Battle Model goes in battle.lgp

Sorry I was not able to make an installer but I do not have the time right now.

Completely unrelated / Dead HP Laptop
« on: 2011-11-02 11:05:02 »
So I just recently came across a laptop that was non functional. It is an HP dv6000. Apparently this whole line of laptops has problems with the GPU desoldering itself from the motherboard. After much research this is what I did to fix it for anyone that has one or finds one in the trash.

1. Dismantle the laptop and remove the motherboard.
2. Remove the CPU from the board and any wires running on the board.
3. Remove CMOS battery
4. Remove all plastic insulation on the board.
5. Put board in oven sitting on balls of aluminum foil.
6. Turn on to 385F. When temp hits 385 let sit for 5 minutes.
7. When done turn off oven and open to let it slow cool for a half hour or so.
8. Get a copper shim or smooth down an old copper penny. (Must be from before 1982 when they were 98% copper)
9. Remove the thermal pad and apply thermal paste to the GPU. Put penny on it and apply thermal paste between the heatpipe and the gpu.
10. Reassemble the laptop.
11. Profit!

Hope this helps anyone that finds one of these HP engineering fails.

Announcements and site development / Music Forum?

With the recent upswing in the amount of soundtracks being remade these days does anyone think it is a good idea to have a seperate forum for Musical mods?

Project SeeD v2.0 (By  Mcindus)

Project SeeD v1.0c (Deprecated)

Q: What is Project SeeD?

A: Project SeeD is a redone GUI for Final Fantasy 8 (much like Team Avalanche's GUI mod for FF7)

Q: How do I install it?

A: Extract all the files and put into /[modpath]/mods . Modpath being whatever you set it to in ff8opengl.cfg (obviously Aali's driver is required, 0.7.10b or higher)

Q: What are the recommended settings for Project Seed?

A: Best resolution to run at is 1280x960 or higher. Any resolution will work though your mileage may vary. I suggest turning on fancy transparency for the best effect.

Q: I see all these little lines everywhere. What is up with that?

A: With the way eidos did the port of FF8 was the lazy way, instead of rearranging the menus they decided to just scale everything. What you are seeing is scaling artifacts that unfortunately cannot be fixed easily (only Aali could do it)

Q: You missed [insert graphic here]! Are you planning on doing these?

A: Possibly. I have not played through the entire game so there may be items that I missed that need to be done. Please post with a screenshot the missing items.

Completely unrelated / Swear Filter
« on: 2011-04-08 17:34:20 »
Thinking about a previous conversation about the swear filter got me thinking. Perhaps some people are right and the swear filter is somewhat pointless. But instead of turning it off outright I have made it so people can turn off the filter in their own profiles. The filter will still be enabled by default.

Side Note: Massive vulgarity, racism, etc still not allowed.

fern, go have fun!

Announcements and site development / Open call for ideas
« on: 2011-03-29 01:58:12 »
With my upgraded status we can now modify the forums to better suit everyone's needs. So what I am asking for is ideas.

Don't like the way something works? Let me know.
Have a great idea? Post it here and we might be able to implement it.
Think something can be done a better way? Well lets do it.

While I can't promise that everything everyone suggests will be implemented, we can at least have a good discussion and see if it is viable.

So post your thoughts. Go!

Alright people, here is your chance to help out the administration staff of Qhimm in cleaning this place up. What do you think Tech related should be changed to to avoid posting confusion.

Questions/comments? Post them here.

Graphical Mods / [REL] sl1982's Field Enhancement
« on: 2011-03-10 00:56:35 »
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

Opening to Train on the way to subway before reactor 5

Note: Some of the scenes cause glitch errors due to palette changes. I have included the files anyways for those that wish to use them. If you want to get rid of the errors just delete the PNG that has the 15 in it. IE tin_1_15_00.png

1. Open ff7opengl.cfg and make a modpath (If it is set to something other then 'modpath = none' then you already have one. Use that)
2. Extract to your modpath ( /mods/[whatever your modpath is])
3. Enjoy.

Screens: (Note that these have been compressed some so they werent so huge)

Completely unrelated / Notice to all Qhimm users
« on: 2010-11-21 15:38:02 »
As you may have (or not) noticed, I have been battling a user that seems hell bent on spamming cracks all over the forums for most of the morning. He has been hiding behind multiple proxies so banning is fairly pointless. So as of right now new accounts are set to admin approve. Hopefully i will have a solution to the problem shortly. Also please disregard the mass PM he sent out. It may have a virus in it.

Team Avalanche / GUI v2.0
« on: 2010-10-23 20:22:13 »
Hey guys here is a release of version 2 of the gui. Most things are fixed, there are a few outstanding things to do. Mainly cait sith's slots and battle square stuff. Should be fully compatible with DLPB's menu mod.

Anyways here it is

Note: Only fully compatible with english right now. Dialogue should work fine with french, spanish, and german as well.

Many thanks to titeguy3 for allowing the use of his main title screen :D

Completely unrelated / Completely Unrelated
« on: 2010-08-04 01:58:45 »
Seriously guys and gals this is getting a bit out of hand. This is a forum for discussion not game playing. It is starting to turn into one of the many other ff forums out there and that isn't cool. Look guys, I am not trying to prevent people from having fun but completely unrelated does not mean completely pointless. Lets have some real discussions.

Team Avalanche / Verdana Font
« on: 2010-07-19 02:33:42 »
It has recently come to my attention that the verdana font was modified slightly to fit ff7. I have looked into it and put a few letters in the game to judge peoples response to the different font. S a v e have been changed.

Please take a look at the image below and let me know what you prefer. If there is sufficient interest in using verdana i will probably change the font.

Team Avalanche / Avalanche Overhaul FAQ
« on: 2010-07-01 04:59:25 »
Ok guys, I am making this FAQ because there are some questions that are coming up more then once and an easy spot for answers to them would be a good idea.

Q: Where can I find the latest releases from Team Avalanche

A: Right Here:

Q: The installer says I don't have Aali's driver installed but I do! How can I install Team Avalanche's Overhaul?

A: Run the FF7config.exe included with Aali's driver before attempting to install the overhaul. Make sure to run as administrator.

Q: Help! All I see is 'External Texture.' How do I fix this?

A: Aali's driver is not installed or not working correctly. To download Aali's driver go here:
If you are having a problem with his driver, help can be found here:

Q: Why are things so much slower now? How can I speed things up?

A: This is normal as the game has to load much more data. One way to speed things up a bit is to turn on the cache in Aali's driver. To turn
this on open ff7opengl.cfg and change compress_textures from no to yes. If your game is still running slow you will have to live with it or
   upgrate your system.

Q: Things look great but we want full sized models instead of chibi. Can you make some?

A: Nope, look elsewhere.

Q: I would like to help. What would you like me to do?

A: Well there are many things to be done. Depending on what you are good at, check out the latest project and see if there is anything you would be interested
   in doing.

Q: When will you be releasing this awesome stuff?

A: When it's done. Stop asking

Q: Is the Team Avalanche project similar to the ill-fated Chrono-Trigger resurrection?

No. The Team Avalanche graphical Overhaul is a mod which runs on a legally acquired copy of Final Fantasy VII, like any other mod from this forum. It is not a standalone application. Team Avalanche's graphical overhaul may be considered as a High-res texture patch. All models and textures used in this project are made in house and/or used with permission.

So there you go. Any other common questions will be added here as needed. If people keep asking questions that are answered in here their posts may be deleted.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / .s Files
« on: 2010-06-05 04:16:30 »
Hey guys does anyone know what the .s files in the magic.lgp do. They seem to be files tied to related to the texture files but I am not sure. Perhaps the animation for the texture? Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / TEX files
« on: 2010-05-24 01:51:16 »
Hey everyone out there. I have been looking at the wiki on the tex format and i am unclear on something. Does the tex file if it has multiple palettes contain all the different palletes? Or does the ff7 executable contain the different palette tables hardcoded in it? I am trying to figure out a way that i can see all the different palettes as it will help immensely with the overhaul.
