Phew...
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0

But to be fair our forum has become a bit unhandy, since the re-release and releases of FF games for the PC.

So I follow this guide even if I merely want filtered backgrounds?  Okay, this guide makes a lot more sense than the other one on here, also, given that the Steam version automatically fixes the soundtrack to the PSX version, that won't be affected with this, right? And does that thread's EXE come with Aali's drivers or is that on another thread?

127
then no nice backgrounds for you.

It doesn't even tell you how to do any of the modding in that thread, there are no guides, it just explains what it does, not how to do it.  There's no need to be rude about it though.

128
you will not use the launcher and you don't need the square stuff after you convert it to the 98 version.

But the fact it requires changes to the registry is what worries me, the guide comes with a zip file all the files I need, but the instructions on what to change, using the drivers to fix the background... Ugh ><

129
What the heck? Why is this in the release section? Anyway it is not that you are forced to make an upgrade to 98 version with Aali's driver (since it will be the same game but with a better graphic output). You can use uMod. The problem: while it dumps similar textures as Aali's driver except as input, it uses different file names (hashes) to replace them. Moreover, the backgrounds it dumps are kinda different and contain some garbage information. So you need to dump all field textures, split and convert the upscaled textures of a project your choice OR upscale the dumped textures, which is also not as easy as you may think, since the bg's are split in tiles and then you need to write the hash codes as the names of the textures.

I think the converter is the easiest thing to do. If you need the achievements, use blackchocobo or an achievement unlocker to unlock them manually. ATM you can have either good graphics or achievements, but both isn't possible (yet).

The only issue with converter, again, is it clearly states I have to edit the registry, I don't feel comfortable doing that, can't I use that converter without messing with regedit?  What about using the launcher? My Square Enix login credentials? None of those concerns are addressed in that thread.

That and the whole "Before using FF7 Game Converter you need a volume labeled "FF7DISC1", "FF7DISC2" or "FF7DISC3" (for the Re- or Steam-Release it is enough to relabel a USB stick)" makes no sense to me, converting Steam version to this version seems like a hassle.

130
Well this was posted in the wrong forum, but here is the game converter for you.

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14047.0

Apologies for that, wasn't sure where to put this thread >.>  What does converting it to the 98 version do? Do I still launch it as normal? All I see is the thread for the launcher, but nothing about background mods *sigh* I guess I have to look deep into the threads to find that lol

Edit: Seems I have to edit the registry to get it work, yeah, I don't know how I feel about doing that or why it has to be done.

131
thats because you basicly need aali's driver to load them. you can use the game converter to convert to the 98 version you will loose the ability to use the cloud saves... thats it

Is there a thread that explains how to do all this?  I don't even know how to convert, but I don't use nor care about cloud saves to be honest.  I don't even know where to look to fix those horrid backgrounds.

Support / Graphical mods for FFVII Steam backgrounds?
« on: 2016-10-26 16:39:08 »
I can't for the life of me find any mods for the Steam release of FFVII, to filter or at least, make them less painful to look at on a 1080p screen. The only thing I can find is for the old 98 version, but not for the Steam port, is there no hope for us Steam users? Are we stuck with the horribly unfiltered pixelated backgrounds?

« on: 2016-10-26 16:21:35 »
Why only the old PC port, what about the Steam version? I can't find any mods for the Steam port backgrounds.

134
I've pretty much done all I can do, I think....  although you're right that it still needs work.  Hopefully someone more adept at assembly can have a look at what I have done and see if they can fix these issues.  If not, it's a cross we'll have to bear.

Fair enough, and I do thank you for the work that has been done, doing the work Square Enix was too lazy to do themselves.

135
Quick question, is it safe to assume that the 60 fps battle mod will receive stability improvements (as in, when attack animations seem to speed up for a split second)?  Also, the enemy disappearing animation sometimes speeds up.

136
I removed your thread for two reasons:
1. It was almost identical to your post in the 60fps mod's thread. We don't need crossposting.
2. You posted it in the releases section, and there was no release in your post.

I didn't know what happened, so clearly I screwed up yet again. My apologies.

137
I just tried the 60 fps mod. Wow, it's beautiful, and the battles actually feel like how they SHOULD have been, but off course, leave it to Square Enix/Eidos to botch up the port lol. Keep up the awesome work, man.

138
It is now part of the Reunion Mod.

Ah, that would explain it, thanks :D

Troubleshooting / FF7 Steam 60 fps menu fix mod removed?
« on: 2015-05-05 06:17:59 »
Since some kind member graciously reported my thread for removal without discussing it with me in private, I shall ask here. There is a problem with this mod, http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15403.0 - It  seems to have been removed from Mega, and the OP of the mod hasn't placed any new versions on another thread. Would there be a way for him or someone to reupload it so I can download it (among other people)? Thanks  ;D

140
Any updates on this since the one here http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15403.0 has been removed from Mega NZ?

141
Yes, the game will crash everytime you get a new achievement if you have Tonberry and Steam overlay at the same time. Also will crash sometimes when synchronizing your saves(but not always). I recommend you to read every post on that thread because there is a lot of information, troubleshooting and in short, a lot of knowledge over here. Maybe that will help you to understand how tonberry works and why it's crashing you.

Crap, now I really feel like a fool, sorry for wasting your guys' time. Will go over the thread... :-[

142
Did you deactivate any STEAM overlays for this game? Like achievements etc.?

That, I haven't done, is that the route cause of the crashing/black box graphics corruption mid-battle? If so, I'll so right away. No idea that it caused the game to crash after the boss battle. And if for some reason, it still persists?  Should I also disable the Steam Cloud Synchronization? I only really use the game on one PC.

143
Your question is answered in the OP.

Extract Tonberry 1.5 and Hashmap 1.3 to your game directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Final Fantasy VIII

Tonberry creates the texture folder in that directory. Now extract Eden textures into that folder. Done.

The project is still in development, so expect scenes to have errors or no new textures yet.

Okay, got it working, but uh, what exactly causes the game to show the black boxes over the HP/MP bars in-battle? I was fighting in Deling City and after I won the boss fight, victory music plays, but the game freaked out and showed a black screen. Sorry for my impatience, and sorry for the bump. Is there a section to report bugs for these mods by chance? I'd like to know why the Steam version crashed after fighting those two lizard bosses.

to the_randomizer85:
We thought you would have found out yourself.
If you download and extract tonberry.rar in final fantasy 8 folder then you'll obtain the /tonberry and /textures folders. I can't understand how you couldn't obtain those folders :-o
To have the textures upscaled you need to download the HD textures and to provide hash1map.csv with hashcodes.
Have you seen these threads?Read the first post at least.
Seed reborn
Eden
BerryMapper

Sorry for being rude  :(  I was just frustrated that the game decided to lock up on  me as I did get the mod to work, backgrounds look so much better. However, I noticed black boxes in-battle and once I fought the boss, victory music plays, but the game just hangs there. Any reason why?  All I have is Tonberry, Eden and Roses and Wine installed, no other mods, and they are installed properly, but the crash I don't understand.

144
And of course my question is ignored. Fan-freaking-tastic.

145
Sorry for the bump, but this happened to me as well. I was fighting two lizards (where you get Carbuncle), the text around the ATB/HP and MP bars went black (the entire HUD) had black squares. I beat the boss, but the game went blank and music kept playing. I don't know what caused it, is there anything I can do to prevent this, and yes, it's running on Steam. a

146
You have to extract the content of tonberry.rar ( a folder named tonberry , another named textures and some dlls) into "FINAL FANTASY VIII/". By default there are no textures folder in the FINAL FANTASY VIII folder.
Then you download eden and copy all the texture folders into FINAL FANTASY VIII/textures.
Have you read the first page of this topic? All the instructions are there.

I did, I believe I may have skipped copying the dll files into the FF8 root directory and I have gotten it to work. However, I have encountered a serious game-breaking glitch. So, in Deling City when you extract the GF Carbuncle, and complete the battle, the game has a black screen, but the victory music plays. Is this because the mod messes with the system files or what? That shouldn't be happening.

147
This is a very noobish question, but for some reason, my version of the Steam game does not use the same folder hierarchy that it shows in the tutorial. In fact, by default, there is no Textures folder, only when you unzip the Eden mod is there one. But on my PC, there is no C:\Program Files (x86)\Final Fantasy VIII\Textures, at all. Instead, it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Final Fantasy VIII.   However, when I installed Eden and Tonberry as per instructions, the background Jpeg files were still 320 x 240 and not the smooth ones. What am I doing wrong? Did I install these incorrectly or are they not compatible with the Steam version?  I don't know why the folder hierarchy is so weird, but, no matter what I do, the updated backgrounds are not working and I can't find the original ones that were installed to replace.

Graphical / Re: Extracting summon monster models
« on: 2012-11-05 00:17:47 »
what you could look at doing, if you simply wanted to texture the models that exist in FF7, is use the vertex colours as a base for the diffuse map. xNormal (program) has a vcolor > diffuse function.

Alright, managed to get ff7 shiva in Super Smash Brawl, one last question. So someone gave me the PC version of VIII's Shiva, but the format is .dat and .tim format.  I take it there are programs that convert these formats to 3DS/DAE?

Edit: Never mind, Noesis views it just fine, now to get the textures to show up in 3DS.

I am certain the thing where looking at is not textured, refer to halkuns post, he explained it already.

here to be easier,
I have nothing to add since it's explained well, Try to understand this first and Research what we exactly mean by texture files, it'll help, I know it's confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it, again use search when you want to clarify some things ;D ;D ;D

Alright, that makes more sense, but I have someone working on getting the shading fixed so that it works properly in 3DS Max and will have it by this weekend.  I know nothing regarding altering shading or altering textures.
