Hi, I tried using W06 with my 2000 version of FF8 but it doesn't seem to work. It appears to do everything it's supposed to, as I can see the new music files and the backup directory, but when I run ff8.exe, it fails. The message says "Final Fantasy VIII was not detected. Roses and Wine will exit now." The game proceeds to load but without any music. Has anyone else experienced this?

The mod executable is in the same directory as ff8.exe.

Hi! I know you've closed work on this mod, but have you come across anyone having troubles with the Installer's dialog box? The installer's Terms and Agreements section is all squashed together, so I can't actually agree to the terms or conditions, or even click to continue.

I'm unable to resize the window (even with some windows hacks I found), and I can't seem to tab around blindly to complete the form either.

I'm using a high resolution display (Microsoft Surface Pro), which I thought was the problem, but I tried reducing the resolution to 1920x1080 to see if that helped, but unfortunately it didn't. I also tried turning off display scaling, and tried running it in compatibility mode, but unfortunately none of that helped either.

Here's what it looks like: http://imgur.com/gallery/lH2ZD

Any advice you can offer would be hugely appreciated.

Set your font dpi settings to 100%. It's been noted on this forum a lot.

Thank you so much! I had looked through here, but I admit I didn't look all the way through.

And I had already tried this, but it turned out I needed to make the change and restart my computer before i would work! Thanks again :D

Hi, sorry to ask a stupid question but...

I love the music from this mod, is there a way to listen to it anywhere else than in-game ? Are the source files downloadable anywhere ?

Thanks a lot

They're in the (FF8 Directory)/Data/OGG folder.

As far as ddraw.dll is concerned, I was just about to make a new FF8 mods video tutorial, and I wanted to include Maki's UV fix (and RaW) as part of my video instructions, which would currently require a very basic HextLaunch insertion tutorial - but should I wait on ddraw.dll for that?

If ddraw.dll makes things simpler, I think I should definitely wait for it to come out before I lead the world of home-modders down a path of near-obsolete confusion.

Yeah, the functions of hextlaunch will be part of ddraw, which should be out fairly soon for ff8 (ff8 version comes with Raw).  FF7 version will be out very soon (and will eventually come with the ability to add ogg sound effects).

But you can use hextlaunch now to do the testing. The files you use in that work across all my hex editing tools.

I noticed that the music keeps playing (although it fades out in a second or two) when soft resetting.

But that's not the reason I'm posting since it has already been reported. I don't know if this has been reported before or not, but if you let the video (slideshow) that plays when you boot the game loop, after the white screen with the ffviii logo when the video starts again you can hear the start of another music file during the "Squaresoft" logo before the music (Overture) of the video starts. Note, this does not happen after a hard reset, it only happens after a gameover (btw I think it's the gameover music that is being played).

Not too bad.... It plays the game over music. I'll see if I can fix it :)

Hi DLPB,

I have a question, but first thanks for putting all the effort into fixing up the music for this game! I noticed that your executable contains two .dlls. The first is bass.dll, which I'm assuming is a custom dll, the other is ddraw.dll. This dll is a typical windows dll for older 2d games. Directdraw I believe.

So anyway, I'm using wine on linux and I noticed that music wouldn't play if I installed your software. However, if I put a manual override in wine for ddraw.dll to native, then it would work. I'm assuming wine was using its native ddraw instead of yours. So what are the functions of these two dlls, bass and ddraw?

Also I noticed you left some sgt files instead of using an .ogg file. Were you not able to find such music on the Final Fantasy VIII OST? I'm asking because I need to test out if I still need directmusic if I use your music replacement software. The less overrides I have to do in wine the better. Unfortunately, I do not know where those .sgt files are going to play in the game, so I can't test that out.

On another note, if anyone has a save file close to where those .sgt files play, that would be great. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hey TheDrifter363, i'm using wine too (2.0 staging), was wondering if you could please tell me the exact configuration for the wine prefix and the overrides you're using. I managed to get tonberry working by overriding d3d9, but i haven't been able to make RaW work, if i override ddraw for the native as you did i always get the following error: “There was a problem initializing audio. The game will not use Roses and Wine” and then i get no music, if i don't override i obviously still don't get any music, if i uninstall RaW i do get the MIDI music (with directmusic previously added of course). Hope either you or maybe DLPB himself can give me a hand with this, so i don't have to dual boot anymore to enjoy this great mod.

Thanks in advance!

If you mean the MEGA link it no longer works (and it seems it was a torrent, anyway).

Hello all! I am new to modding Final Fantasy 8. I have the Steam version. I am having a issue with the Roses and Wine mod. I have downloaded W06 and installed the Original Soundtrack. When I load the game I get this message.. There was a problem initialising audio. the game will not use Roses and Wine. Access violation at address 16114719 in module "RaW.dll" Read of address 000002F4. I have NO clue how to fix this. I have been reading and using goggle to no avail.

This *should* only be generated when you have issues with your sound card - or sound driver - or it is incompatible with bass.dll / dsound

I had a older version of RaW. I believe it was W03. I had downloaded it YEARS ago. It was working fine. I uninstalled and deleted it so I could update to W06. Now I keep getting this error. Do you kow where I could find W03 or any ideas on how to fix this error?

It was the RaW version where you had to select 2013. The great sounding original soundtrack from the 2013 version was working just fine today FYI. Not sure it if is my audio drivers.

Hey! I should NOT have updated to the W06. The music is back to the strawberriesty steam version music so I am not going to mess with it. I will play something else. Thanks for your time :-)
