Title: [PSX/PC] File Reconstruction Project!!
Post by: halkun on 2009-08-21 10:29:42
Ok, here's how this works....
I created a publicly accessible spreadsheet that anyone can edit. The idea is to ID every last of the 3009 files that make up FF7. What I have done is I dumped all three disks, combined them, and put them in such a way that you can label what file is what and also the contents. You can also add links to the wiki for the proper format. More than one person can also edit the file at the same time.

Why am I doing this?

Well, I tired of all the loose files describing what goes to who for example, aacd.hrc is what? Enemy024.lzs is what? Once we can ID the graphic assets, we can then flag off any that need improvement. How's that for a plan. It also gives any enterprising hackers out there who can't program very well a project to do! (I know, stroke of genius!)

I just started with a bare file list for now, the PC data isn't in it yet, but some enterprising soul can add that.

If you want to view the document you can click...
here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ave2E8R3nZQDdFV5Y3c0Tm9mejBORjZ4UmJ3Qmdpd0E&usp=sharing)

To gain access, PM Lazy Bastard he took over the project

i have both the pc and psx versions, i will have to take a look at some point, but school comes first (and finals for this section are coming up... yes i have school all year long now, since it is online), so it may not be that soon :\.

I imagine this to be useful for other modders. :-)

I agree im gonna fill the enemy models in for the PSX version.

If somebody wishes to modify the document for the pc version i can fill in some stuff

You can mod it yourself, you can also edit while other are editing (That's pretty cool! I didn't know that!)

I know i can mod it myself. But i have another project i am working on right now. Thats why i was suggesting someone with a bit more free time could do it and then i would add in the information i have gathered

Sorry if the questions are stupid but what do we need to put in for the PC version? the folders/files inside the cds? the folder/files of the installed game? also just lgps or the files inside them?
Title: Re: FF7 File Reconstruction Project!!
Post by: sl1982 on 2009-08-24 00:19:20
All of it i think. Clarify with halkun though

ABout the PC data, I'm thinking something like listing the lgp it's in, then a colon, and the files that make up the equivalent data.

I added the pc model codes for the enemy models listed thus far
Title: Re: FF7 File Reconstruction Project!!
Post by: Eslava on 2009-08-24 15:19:46
I've just attempted to create the PC list, it's at the end of the spread sheet, I've put all the files you find in the installed game folder (someone please check the originals of the main folder since i'm not sure if I missed a few) and didn't put yet the extracted lgp files because i don't know what will be better: I've put some examples of what can be done, the first one is the files just after the lgp listing and the other is a separate list at the end of the sheet. Also I added a dash to mark them as extracted files, maybe changing the colour or something would be better or maybe leaving them as they are, you say what's better :P

edit: whops just realized that there are more sheets in the spreadsheet ^^' should i put the pc files in a separate one instead of being under the psx one?

probably

Rawr my eyes, all I see now is lgps everywhere! anyways I've updated the spreadsheet with almost all the lesser lgps files, i have put them in a sheet apart because there are too many and would be a mess for anyone trying to just see the original files. I need some rest now...

MXster, halkun is only doing his job on these forums. you can either have the threads locked, or get slapped with a lawsuit.

said lawsuit could close all of qhimm alone. so would you rather cut off a finger or lose the entire hand?

I know what your saying, I just feel that qhimm was 'More Fun' when there were topics about ripping models, I mean we're not supposed to put screen shots of ripped models up anymore, we can't even ask for help with editing psp versions of the game  :|

sooo back to the topic, do you mind if i create a separate sheet for battle.lgp only? since it's quite important and it has a huge amount of files that would make difficult viewing comfortably the other lgps. something similar happens with magic and char although magic is not that big... Also do you like separate sheets for lgps or all-in-one sheet for pc? i created different ones just for make it easier to scroll on the files.

Post by: Eslava on 2009-08-26 19:18:19
Alright let the transfer begin, i made backups of the sheet just in case it cant handle the amount of data, my pc almost dies while processing 11k words XD lets hope google docs is powerful

EDIT: Whew had to restart the browser a couple of times but its all in! All is left now is char.lgp and i think pc is complete (without descriptions but complete in a way ^^) You will see some names have a dot before them and other slots will be blank, sorry couldnt help with that, the other files i transferred i cleaned them by hand but this one is too much ^^' maybe when i have more time.

EDIT2: Char.lgp done, i guess theres nothing left than filling the information  :-D same as battle, there are names with dots and sloths blank

EDIT3:Whoops seems like I've messed up some names because of my spanish version, files like schocobo sflevel and such the original english is without the S right? sorry now the file is not in alphabetical order... I will try to fix that, thanks for the one who pointed that out in the sheet.

EDIT4:fixed that problem, now everything is alphabetically ordered, while checking the file I saw some files had at the end _SP I think that its the same problem, can anyone confirm how these files are written in the english version?

no problem :), i  have also started a rough fill in of battle.lgp. i plan to get a good chunk of it filled in roughly hopefully by the end of the weekend. also noticed some extra .  here and there along w/ blank lines (fixing them as a parse through battle.lgp)

Nice, as I've said before the order and the spanish edition names are fixed, the only thing is the dots and blanks, please if you come across any try to get rid of them
Also i need someone to confirm what are the names of the lpgs in the english version that in the sheet I wrote with NAME_SP I guess the sp is for spanish so i have to change that.

Title: Re: FF7 File Reconstruction Project!!
Post by: sithlord48 on 2009-09-02 14:55:29
got all the dups and empty lines out of battle.lgp and set up all my links for the pics ,almost all texture files(files ending in ac-al up to p***) are on the server, links need to be checked and working ones need to be turned blue, but i gives me something to do @ work :)

any one know of a quicker way to get model to a png?  currently i use biturn and take snapshots of the model, with a program that allows for a section of the screen to be saved as a picture, it works good but not fast, textures are way faster cause i can just convert them to .png w/ biturn.

Magic.lgp is updated with the folder layout, thanks to sl1982 for pointing that out.
If someone knows what some strange files do please fill them for example chocobo.wat, also why does magic.lgp have files outside the folders? and why the folders path point to battle.lgp folder?

magic.lgp does have files as well as the battle folder (with more stuff in it...)

i have made a text file of the file in it can be viewed @ http://dopplereffect.shacknet.nu/magic.lgp.txt

Not for me as of yet due to the fact that it was not complete. So I needed to find what I needed myself. It should be a help for future modders though.

Post by: nfitc1 on 2009-10-14 13:24:34
I've found it interesting. I can see why some things don't show up too (and not because I'm just a bad programmer).

EDIT:
I just used it to find an enemy I've never seen before! O_O
I don't think I ever encountered the Killbin enemy from the Whirlwind maze. According to Terrence, it only shows up in one screen and has a 10/64 chance of showing up.

I've noticed that a lot of the ones that are giving errors are single poly models. I think the animations are different in these cases because they're giving me errors too. I'm not using kimera to identify them. I'm using something I'm working on that I'm code-naming "Tiny Bronco" for now.

i agree.  for those of us filling in the document, most of this is uncharted(or undocumented) water.  I completely agree that it will be a huge help to the future of FF7 modding.

been away a little while (new job/very busy). i am back although only slowly working on the remaining pictures for battle.lgp now.. (check the sheet), might be a few more weeks before i clear enuff of the what i have to get done to get back to serious work on this project. that being said,

if someone would like to do some of the pics(look at all the red links), please pm me so they we don't dup work (pics should be saved as .png named according to file there of), i will still host the pictures just pm me when done and i will get them from you. this help would be a HUGE help towards finishing battle.lgp, just about all that remains in that part of the sheet.

@NFITC1, the sheet is still up and link on first page works just  fine.
@Halkun, i second sticky.
@all contrubutiors, thank you all for your work on the sheet, no one person could do this alone, it would take forever.

Looks like someone peed all over the spreadsheet.

I'll be uploading a backup when I get home (I wasn't stupid). It might be missing some newer data.

Looks like my experiment to keep it open for everyone failed. I figured this would happen sooner or later. The next revision will be moderated.

If anyone else downloaded a backup PM me with when it was downloaded. You may have one newer than mine (Mine is a few weeks old).

According to the changes log, no changes were made last week, but last two weeks have some changes by sithlord, jeromear and some unregistered guys. I think i can revert the sheet to the last change made before someone messed it but the sheet doesnt load.

I can't revert. Whoever peed on the sheet locked me out. I'll have to start with a new document

==EDIT==

I'm converting a newer backup now. It may have some formatting issues you guys will need to fix

It's uploaded and pretty much intact PM me with your email address if you want access.

Reconstruction project, update 3.9.10

, progress is slow but sure. picture links for the rest of the .lgp files models and backgrounds are being created ,.since there are a lot of files on the sheets.just about any user who is r will have to scroll around a lot of data in order to find the files related to it,so i created a bunch of "named ranges" that a user can look thru to find their data faster. but it will only work for people who have Write privilege. naturally for read-only viewers some sort of index needs to be created to speed up that process. I'm open to suggestion on what to do about that index.

as some of you may be aware, there are several localized versions of ff7 , and there are naturally a few different files between languages. now we have English and Spanish versions of this data but are missing the rest any one another language version is asked to donate some of there files for a complete sheet.

some examples of these files are (first few are easy ones)
ff7 pc manual.rtf,ff7 readme.txt,sfman for awe32,64 readme.txt,textures from menu.lgp
some textures in just about all the minigames and quite a few other lgp's (ones w/ letters , etc...).,maybe some models.

members who have a German,Japanese, or other language who are would like to donate.
ill be back w/ another update when progress warrents on.

The files that actually change are the textures that have any text drawn on them, As soon as I have all of the later sorted I'll add here a list with their filenames so anyone who wants to contribute just have to search for those. if you want you can also send me the localized .lgp files and ill do the work for you.

EDIT: Here's the list of the files that are different due to localization:

Main folder:
FF7 PC Manual
FF7 ReadMe
SFMAN for AWE32,64 ReadMe

Inside LGPs (LGPs have different names aswell, Im posting the spanish version ones as an example but depending on the language they will change, the files inside them dont change their names though):

I don't know why flevel and world lgps have their names changed but i haven't found any file inside them different from the originals. The only thing i found connected between them is that both of em have eye textures but that doesnt make any sense at all

Pictures of all battle models

You'll need 7zip to open it.  Also included is Mirex's battle index for ease of finding which name corresponds with which model.

as some of you may be aware, there are several localized versions of ff7 , and there are naturally a few different files between languages. now we have English and Spanish versions of this data but are missing the rest any one another language version is asked to donate some of there files for a complete sheet.

some examples of these files are (first few are easy ones)
ff7 pc manual.rtf,ff7 readme.txt,sfman for awe32,64 readme.txt,textures from menu.lgp
some textures in just about all the minigames and quite a few other lgp's (ones w/ letters , etc...).,maybe some models.

members who have a German,Japanese, or other language who are would like to donate.
ill be back w/ another update when progress warrents on.

I want to add the files of the german localization.

Yes, it's really weird... but it is a consequently procedure throughout the whole game, the translation on the PSX is one of the worst I've ever seen...
"Materia" was called "Substance" and Rufus was called different every time he showed up, like Rufaus, Rufhaus, Rúfes and so on...

They used four different types: g, ge, gm and d (d stands for "Deutsch")

@sithlord48: I've sent you the link by PM.

--EDIT--
I forgot: I'm glad to be of use :)

Hrm, well if you say that the German translation is off, perhaps you can start a project to see if you can do better and use "Loveless" and "WallMarket" to fix mistranslations in the dialogue (gflevel.lgp) and names (kernel2.bin). Loveless is pretty user friendly, it's even got a "Search and Replace" tool which makes correcting mistranslations a lot easier.

I've been working to make FFVII Remix be fully compatible with all languages, so now's a good time to take up an endeavor like this if you'd like.

Sure I'd like. The only problem is that I don't speak japanese. If I take your translation from Remix instead, would you have a problem with that?

Slight update:
Added an appendix at the end of the battle.lgp sheet showing wich enemies models are reused by recoloring them through the game. I took the first model as the 'original' and added a 'clone' tag to the rest referencing to the original for easy searching. Hopefully this ends up useful for the modelers :)

Does anyone know what model loads for the enemy attack 'Napalm Bomb'?

It looks similar to matra.p, but different, and i remember offhand there was about 7 (slightly) different missile models in magic.lgp.

if no one knows offhand, i could look into it and post it on the reconstruction.

most all the enemys for the psx version have been ided go look at the sheet and you should find the model , the pc models names are all in but not all pictures are up. mainly becuase there is a lot of them, Eslava and I are making progress but its slow going.

At the moment we are working heavily on battle.lgp so until we are done with it no one is working on world afaik. battle.lgp is a huge one so dont expect us to finish it sometime soon XD. World is a tough one since there are loads of textures, some of them are documented but im aware that there are some holes to be filled. The majority of the models are identified so maybe that is useful to you, we will try to complete it someday.

for the pc version the weapons (if you are referring to the weapons of each char not the monsters) are stored at battle.lgp, just next to each character files, near the end. If you open the sheet and search buster sword or any weapon it will take you where the weapons are. Sorry I can't give you details about the psx version, I haven't worked on it ^^'

Thanks for telling me the weapon location for the PC version and yea I'm talking about the characters weapons not the monster weapons XD and also i found out where the weapons are in the PSX version they are in the battle folder and inside the .lzs file of the character, example: CLOUD.lzs file has both clouds model and its weapons

Does anyone know what NULL1MIN.DAT does? It's the last file on the disc, sector-number-speaking, and I wondered what its function was. The file itself is blank; it appears to be a placeholder, but for what?

I note that its length is listed as 6,000,000, even though it's empty. Is the '60' significant, is the file supposed to stand for a blank minute?
Title: Re: FF7 File Reconstruction Project!!
Post by: Gemini on 2011-03-15 09:03:04
It's there only as a padding file. PlayStation games are supposed to have 3 minutes of blank data, or at least that's what Sony asked developers to do when building data disks. IIRC, early models of the console just couldn't read the last 3 minutes of any disk, hence why this countermeasure.

Necromancy!

Since I've been unable to get in contact with halkun, and I've been mapping out the contents and purposes of various files, I've decided to mirror his spreadsheet, and update it. I still have a bit more to update, and the process will continue after that once I've finished a few daunting aspects of the mod I'm working on, but for now, here's the new mirror:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ave2E8R3nZQDdFV5Y3c0Tm9mejBORjZ4UmJ3Qmdpd0E&usp=sharing (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ave2E8R3nZQDdFV5Y3c0Tm9mejBORjZ4UmJ3Qmdpd0E&usp=sharing)

As was the case with the original, let me know if you've got something to contribute, and if you're fairly active in reverse-engineering FF7's files and data, I'll allow you to edit the spreadsheet directly.

Enjoy!

Anyone want to volunteer to take possession of this file?

If not, I'll likely archive it on GameHacking.org for anyone to grab, but in that form it won't be a live editable document and single source of truth...
