Maybe you need to make a CLEAN ISO file from your installation CD and make the installation with a virtual CD drive.

Tried that. I installed from both the original installation disc, the copy I made, and the iso I made and mounted it. All are the same result.

Does anyone else that has a 64-bit system have bootloader read that it's a 32?

For some reason, it always stops on textures or models. I put in a full install that I'd had backed up from years ago that wasn't modded at all. It has to be something to do with windows 7, but I just don't know what it is after four days of trying to make it work.

Amazingly and I do mean amazingly, I got it working. I had to do a checkmark in BFE to use models in the custom folder instead, but it moved them past the lgps that got me stuck. I don't know if this means I'm not getting the replacement models I chose or not, but I'll check in-game when it finishes. Crossing my fingers for that.

EDIT: Yays across the board, I got the model changes through and it completed! *dances* Thank you so much to everyone who tried so hard to help me! You should have all the internet cookies in the world!

Ok so I've installed this in the past using the same bootleg program and hasnt done this before, i run the bootleg and now everytime it gets to around the MO.exe or FMV install, it removes my ff7.exe file and completely screws up the entire installation.  I'm trying install Full settings from bootleg.  I dont think it has anything to do with my computer hardware but if someone has the same problem and fixed it lemme know how you did it please.  If you need specs lemme know i'll post them but i think its something to do with the installer.

Edit: So as my title says, I'm a newb.  Dat AVG kept deleting it.  Disabled it, and the bootleg installed fine.  My mistake.

Hey there. I'm working on my first attempt at using bootleg. I've downloaded every file in red to run the game in full mode, except for mo.exe... I've been searching for mirrors and such, but keep arriving at the same dead links. I've also tried torrent sites to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you much. I got everything working and it looks fantastic. It's amazing what everyone has done to revitalize this game. I'm several hours in now and I have only one complaint: the custom attack sounds made by party members is a bit too loud in the mix. Hearing Aerith say "aaeeeEEE!" every time she attacks gets rather annoying. Is there any way to revert to the original sounds? Everything else is awesome. :)

I am the same way. They are pretty neat, but don't mix with the game volume too well. You will need to reinstall everything to get original sound effects back. Sorry, Bootleg doesn't "uninstall" anything. It only installs or overwrites, so if anything original game is wanted back, we can't provide those files (copyright). It's all up to the player owning the game to have access to those files.

Thanks much for the reply. I think I'll just leave it alone, it's not a big enough deal to reinstall everything. :) So last question... per the installation walkthrough, I downloaded all of the patches to the bootleg folder. After installing everything, is it necessary to keep the original bootleg folder, or are all the files copied to the FFVII directory? I'm running this on a 60GB partition on my Macbook so I could use the extra space if possible. Thanks!

There are two versions of FacePalmer: FacePalmer.zip and the 20 FacePalmer.part??.rar files.
You do not need both versions.

Always allow Bootleg.exe to run as Administrator

Use the MOD LIST function in BFE to identify and download required mod files.

Download all Bootleg supported mods.
And, as always, read the Bootleg_Readme.txt . . .

Vgr is no longer modding and PitBrat is taking a break, so I'm on my own to handle this project until PB returns. However, I will not tolerate that kind of aggressive language. Being your first posts, it's clear you don't understand the years of hard work that has been put into this project. Now you do, and you need to respect that. Be nicer in asking for help next time.

It's funny, too, because modding ff7 used to be much harder and less rewarding... we had to walk backwards through the snow to get to our computers even.
People feel entitled to this game now it's so old. MUST make it work NOW. 15 years and it STILL doesn't WORK? /tosskeyboard

Hi!

I've started a new installation on my new computer. I re-used the files I downloaded last year and downloaded the missing ones. While installing I've seen a "corrupt file" error window popping up. I think it was at this point:
"Searching for "FMVRes.exe" in "F:\Jeux\modifs\Bootleg040\"
Installing FMV Restoration Cut Scenes . . .
Completed FMV Restoration Cut Scenes."
Is it normal bootleg continued with the installation and said it was completed? Do I need to re-do everything?

Also, 3 log files opened:
2 of them said "Error in elminn_1: Incorrect number of entries: 16/17
Error in psdun_2: Incorrect number of entries: 9/10"
and the last one said "Couldn't dump scene: converting to scene failed, gzip decompression error"
Is that important?

I tried to play a bit and there was no SFX (like the sound of a hit in battle). And the music change hasn't been made (it's still the original MIDI I believe). I have two folders in my FF7Music folder, one that is called "mp3" and one called "OSTRe". None of them is used ingame though.

Oh and I haven't played this for a long time, I forgot, how do you change the input commands?

Thanks again for that huge work!

The "incorrect number of entries" messages are normal if you installed MO.exe.

Re: [Tutorial] Bootleg Configurator and FF7 Mod Installation

Yeah I figured. I'm dumb, I forgot about Tifa's tutorial.

I re-installed everything following the tutorial after replacing the corrupted file.

So now I have the remixed music, but there's still no SFX  :(

Any help?

Also, I can't use my controller. It won't be useable by itself if I launch the game and I can't use it ingame to set the keys either.

Run FF7Config.exe and reset your sound device. I don't understand why the "no sound effects" gets reported all the time. I can't replicate the issue  :-\

The input commands can be changed once you start a game. It's under the Config option in the Menu.

As for the controller, when launching the game you must press a button on the controller before pressing anything on the keyboard. Just use the controller to skip the logos and load a game. Then map it how you want. If you press the keyboard first it won't detect the controller.

lol you see how they edited their question after I gave an answer? Original said nothing about a controller. Do what CNH said.

Yeah, I know they say edit your last post but that doesn't apply when there's already a post after it.

Yup, sorry about the edit, I hadn't refresh the page, so I didn't see there was a reply =/.

Concerning the controller, I can't use it, even if I don't press anything on the keyboard. I can't skip the logo with it.

I don't understand what you mean by "reset my sound device". There is a sound driver selected and it works when I click on the test button. Same goes for the MIDI tab. And ingame, while I can hear the music, I can't hear SFX.

Thanks to both of you!

Edit: to be fair: "Last Edit: Yesterday at 23:13:53 by Sangoku" and "Reply #2519 on: Yesterday at 23:14:07 ", So I editted before you posted! :p

Edit2: Oh I got it, I had to change the sound device to something else. Now it works, thanks!

No worries. I was just giggling at how close we were posting and editing with each other. It's almost like we needed live chat to better communicate  :P

I find the solution for my controller on another website. It was basically this: http://i.imgur.com/Rhgwp.jpg

Thanks again!

Sorry for the repost, but still looking for an answer. I have a bootleg folder on my desktop with many GB of mods. After installing bootleg to my FF7 directory, can I remove the bootleg folder from my desktop, or does the FF7 installation rely on this folder? (In other words, during bootleg install, are the mods copied to the FF7 directory?). I'd like to free up some space if possible.

Thanks!

I'd say you can remove it. Maybe try renaming it/moving it to fake its disappearance and see if it still works. You'd better wait for someone more experienced to confirm.
