Anyone know why I can only get FF7Music (installed with the installer) to actually play anything if I run FF7 from the FF7music.exe Play FF7 button?
I have Aali's custom driver installed OK and configured to find the FF7Music plugin. If I run FF7.exe I get no music.

Because FF7Music needs to be open in order to work. The plugin just redirects the music calls to ff7music, but the program does the actual song playing.

Hi am I doing it correctly to open FF7music first and run FF7 from there, or should I have it open separately and then start up FF7?

Either way will work. All that the button in ff7music does is open ff7 like normal. The main reason to use it is so that you don't forget to launch ff7.

Although now that I think of it, didn't my installer create a new desktop shortcut? This shortcut should open ff7 and ff7music together, and also close them together, so that you never even have to worry about it.

I got my APP notepad file opened and the underlined part is where I think my problem lies...

Where is that file? Where do I put it? The music won't play and I think that's the reason.

No, ff7input.cfg wouldn't do it.

I've received numerous reports about the remastered soundtrack not downloading properly in the latest version of my installer, so that may be the cause. Have you tried using the PSF soundtrack? If that works, then I know exactly what's wrong and how to fix it.

Not trying to sound like an idiot..but when I open up the icon on my desktop it automatically opens up FF7 without me clicking the 'run ff7' button. That is correct?

The icon that the installer makes? Yeah, I put it there to open ff7music and ff7 at the same time, so you don't have to do that extra step every time.

Very nice, my only problem is even when I open FF7 with that, my main problem is I get no picture other than the squaresoft logo (used bootleg). I just figured i'd play through the opening FMV scene and see what happened. I get too the train stop when the bombing mission song is supposed too play, and nothing. Sound effects but no music :-(

Trying too play at 1920x1080...not going so well.

I noticed above somone looked at something called APP.

Mine has this...

And since this topic is about music that's why I thought it's the perfect place to talk about this. Isn't it possible for someone to continue this work??

It would be awesome since, in my opinion, it's a vital thing to do on FF8. And I think this game should have a little more attention. I really hope someone can do it. Thanks.

Oh and by the way the musics on Final Fantasy VII sometimes suddenly stops playing. Like for example when there's a gameover or in Junon in the elevator fmv cutscene. Why? And how can I fix it?

The music stops playing because of volume ramps. It's a bug in FF7Music, and I can't really fix it (remember, I just packaged it with the installer, I didn't actually make it). What you CAN do is open ff7music, and in the configuration untick "Obey Ramps". You'll lose anywhere that the volume is supposed to change and everything will play at whatever volume the song starts at, but it'll fix this.

Whoops, I meant to get to that last night! I must've forgotten to hit post, sorry.

No picture is not a problem with ff7music. If you used Bootleg, you should probably ask in that thread about it, PitBrat is more likely to be able to solve your problem. I don't use Bootleg, nor have I even so much as tested it, so I don't really know what it's doing behind the scenes and can't vouch for it. If, for example, it puts its own ff7 icon on the desktop instead of mine, it may be doing something else that's causing the no picture problems. But that's just a guess, I really have no clue.

As for starting ff7 without the icon? Yeah, there would be no music. When ff7music is installed, it disables the game's built-in music. What you can try doing is opening ff7music from the start menu, and clicking the run ff7 button in there. That's what my shortcut does on its own, but it does it as seamlessly and quietly as I could manage, so the user shouldn't even have to worry about ff7music.

The opening music is built into the FMV, so it'll play fine even if ff7music isn't working right.

Even if you launch from ff7music you get nothing after that? If you go into ff7music's configuration, what profile is selected? If you select the "PSF" profile does it work? Try this even if that's not the profile you want to use, because it'll help me deduce what's going wrong.

Hi Travis, hi duarian

FF7 creates the file "ff7input.cfg" when you selects in the game menu "config".

@ duarian,
I think you've installed the wrong graphics card driver. Search on the Intel side of the right and install it.
This should be the error "ERROR: GL_INVALID_OPERATION" Remove.
In addition, I recommend that you install the  K-Lite Mega Codec Pack V7.0.0.
The old version still has the option RGB24 and RGB16 (supported output colorspaces), newer versions have this  option anymore.
The message "INFO: slow output format from video codec indeo5, 6" should not occur anymore.

@ Travis and duarian,
Look at the properties of the files "ff7.exe", "ff7Music.exe" and "ff7start.exe" (or similar, Covarrs one).
In the section "Compatibility" all three files should have the same hook.
I do not need a hook there.
If the music still does not work, post the file "ff7Music.log" here.

greetings Kompass63

I don't exactly understand what you are talking about. I am not trying to be ignorant. I use a nvidia GTX 580 with the latest WQHL driver so I don't think I installed it wrong? Not exactly sure what you mean by Intel...

Hi duarian

Sorry, I got you confused with someone  :(.

But "ERROR: GL_INVALID_OPERATION" seems to be an OpenGL issue...

Maybe try an older driver?

NVIDIA's latest drivers play the game just fine, and a codec pack should not affect the game if he's using Aali's driver (especially if movies such as the opening logos are one of the few things that ARE working correctly).

duarian, what version of ff7 do you have, and do you have the 1.02 patch? I think some of the mods in bootleg might not be compatible with the non-English versions.

Hi Covarr

You're right, that codec pack is not necessary, but the message "INFO: slow output format from video codec indeo5, 6" means that, despite Aalis driver uses this old codec.
And the message "ERROR: GL_INVALID_OPERATION" is an OpenGL error, or not?
And the message "INFO: Auto-detected version: FF7 1.02 US English" indicates, that he has install the 1.02 Patch.

I did a Max install of the game. Updated it too 1.02 and used the custom driver. I go into the ff7config and get the message that it was successful and leave it at custom and click OK. Then I run the game via ff7 music.

Regular English version that came in a triangle shaped box. I let bootleg install everything including the 1.02 patch and the custom driver (it does) I might om my next install try doing the patch and the driver manually then running bootleg.
...not sure if it will make a difference or not

The videos play sound but I get no picture. As for music...yeah haha none of that sadly :-(
