Using LGP tools, by any chance?

Set your locale settings to "English (United States)" (Under Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options) and try again.

Well, cintro should be 904 Sephiroth intro and lb2_awe is just the fancy version of lb2 ff7 will play if you have a compatible AWE sound card and the special ff7 soundfont loaded

1153
Does the latest version of LGP tools still have that nice bug where it generates corrupt archives if your locale settings aren't set to United States?

Troubleshooting / Re: Midi issues

You may want to try ff7music, if the music is your only problem. The downside is that from what I've heard it's not compatible with the high-res patch.

Fortunately, what you've heard is a load of bullsh*t

Any advice for getting both of them working at the same time would be appreciated, then. I've "heard" it because a buddy of mine was trying to get both patches working and reported that he couldn't get them both installed at the same time.

Recent versions of ff7music don't patch anything, so i don't see how that could be a problem.

to fix the crash, try the battle swirl fix

i think you'll just have to live with the minor graphical glitches in the high res patch, though

thats not entirely true
the high-res patch actually renders 3d models at full resolution, the only thing upscaled is the backgrounds and other 2d data

thats the difference right there

psf's can loop, mp3's can't

the psf player is slightly more taxing though and there's an annoying first-load delay

thats why i switched my network to NFS a looong time ago

NFS support is kind-of flaky in windows, but it works, and its alot better than using SMB/CIFS

finally

that stuff should never have been in there in the first place

1162
should work fine
with the latest drivers, using the TNT setting you should even be able to use 16x FSAA

i own a 6600GT myself so i know it works

Why not dump all the tiles of a background to a single image (.bmp?), then run filtering on the entire image, then split it back into teeny tiny 16x16 tiles back into ff7? It would look a lot better than applying to each and every individual tile, unless you're looking for in-game filtering. Problem solved.... I think.

first off, ff7 does not support enough 16x16 tiles to fit 1280x980 pixels of data
second off, only filtering the background would look really silly since the foreground tiles would still be unfiltered
and last but not least, we do not understand enough of ff7 to make it render this correctly

1164
its possible, but not all that easy, in theory or practice
what it all comes down to is that noone really knows how the whole rendering engine works (yet)
but even then, its a big step to actually make it do what you want

and in the end, its probably not worth it
filtering can only do so much, it wont make that much of a difference
if its done in real-time, expect some simple filtering algorithm like hq4x
modifying the actual background files would require ALOT more work, although that might actually make things look kind-of pretty

that doesn't help in the name input screen, it will use the default settings anyway
you should have a numpad somewhere on your keyboard though (usually around 'uio'), there are a million different ways of activating it, all depends on the laptop model but the key is usually marked numlock

bytes, yes, but what about int, short etc? they are not the same size everywhere

well, you have to use u8 and friends, so you better get used to it :-P
thats what you get for writing portable software

you should probably call them u8_t or something to that effect though, that way its more obvious to the reader that its a type and not some variable name

chances are you got a pirated copy
hunt down whoever sold it to you and kill him/her

1170
ah, yeah, thats the very same bug

guess i'll have to get my ass in action then and find out how to really fix it

1171
So yeah, i created a very ugly hack to fix a problem i had with winmm.dll crashing in midiOutUnprepareHeader

basically what happens is that FF7 "randomly" tries to call it twice on the same header, causing a crash, normally just after a battle, when its supposed to play the fanfare midi, but i suppose it could happen whenever it stops a midi

now, i haven't seen a lot of whine about this in here, so i was wondering if i should bother to create a 'clean' version of this patch and release it

it may be some odd combination of patches/hacks on my side, but as far as i can tell, it still happens with just the 1.02+chocobo patches installed

Q-Gears / Re: So where do i get started?
« on: 2006-08-14 17:03:11 »
palettes 1 and 4 respectively, giving special treatment to either of them does not solve the problem
i suspect the unknown bytes in the section header (where width, height, etc is stored) may have something to do with it
i have not seen any obvious patterns though
