WIP / Re: [In Development] FF8 Voiceover Project
« on: 2016-12-28 06:07:39 »
The project has officially passed the 50% completion milestone. Here's your last chance to vote for which of the following scenes I will tease next on youtube: http://www.strawpoll.me/11208197

50% is nothing to sneeze at. Congrats to the team!

It was nice work! I liked what I heard!

Few suggestions...
I feel like this fandub of the ending really nailed the characters, especially Irvine (which I never realized would fit with a southern accent), who really made me laugh the whole time. Just hope you can capture that same feeling.

Also, I noticed the first few lines in the opening (Squall and Rinoa's promise) always sounded bad to me on every dub until one of them used an echo for their voices, which really fit the feel of the opening somehow.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqDhjDJ0SfE though this one's echo felt too strong like a commenter below pointed out (also that Squall kinda sounded flat in his lines but I digress)

I hope I'm not ruffling feathers. I'm just a big fan of the game, though I don't have astronomical expectations. Just shooting out thoughts in hopes of making this project closer to a dream dub.

Troubleshooting / Re: [FF8- Steam] Save doesn't load.
« on: 2014-08-03 03:37:07 »
I think the problem is that the Steam version uploads saves to the cloud so that if the new save isn't recognized (as in converted Hyne saves), it gets deleted automatically.

To fix it, all you have to do is start the game to the point it asks to load the memory cards.

Press Alt + Tab to back out of the game without quitting, and then put your new save in the Steam's save folder (which should be a Square Enix folder in your documents by default) and then go back to the game and load the files.

The save should show up. When it does, save immediately so it will be recognized, because if you quit the game without saving, it'll delete itself again after for the same reason above.

Hope this helped.

okay real simple answer  to this one.  When you use two http the forum has no idea where the file is so it doesn't give an error.  With just one http you get the error that the file is too large.  This means it is finding your image and the file size or dimension is too large.  The maximum size is 150 x 150 pixels i believe and there may be a filesize issue but a compressed png or jpg should fit just fine.

I can tell you right now that that photo is too big so open it in an image editor and bring the dimensions down a bit.
Ahh, 150 x 150 was the dimensions. I could have sworn I tried doing this with a way smaller image but got the same result... guess that wasn't 150 x 150 either.

I resized the image and uploaded it and set it as your avatar for you.

Wow. Thanks so much, Covarr. I appreciate it.

6
I was actually going to use that exact avatar, haha.

But the issue with that is, that was the first thing I did. Removed the first HTTP.

Now, when I put the full regular link, I get this:

The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar.

When I post the link with the second HTTP, I get an okay from the site, but the image never loads and is replaced with this crossed paper sign.

No matter how many times I get the okay by the system that my avatar is small enough, it never shows next to my posts? Any workarounds?

Too bad my sub has expired... :) I'm not renewing it until they fix those small fonts issue... I can't read sh*t on my big screen yo! :D Seriously... I have lost a major part of the story due to this issue. In FFXIII they have an enlarged fonts option. Why not in XIV too? Unless it's not part of the franchise... And yes already reported this issue and talked about it in several threads...

My sub expired a few months back as well. I'm going to re sub, but on the PS4 version. First, I'd have to get a PS4 lol

I love this suit... too bad it's 1st level... :-P

Well if vanity slots are going to work they way I think they do, you'll soon be rocking high-level gear while still wearing those clothes.

RPGs are not restricted to a specific kind of battle-style such as turn-based.

Man, you guys are fast! Did you guys manage to post this topic, too?

Graphical / Re: FF8 Triple Triad HD Project
« on: 2014-03-05 17:05:02 »
I'm going to post something about the moderators making a FF8 only section... it would really help clear up some confusion and create a place where we don't have to dig 10 pages down in 5 seperate topics for the right information.

Yeah, is there a way I could help with that? The FF8 mod scene isn't as big as VII, and we pretty much have to sift through hella pages to find a specific topic.

Actually, no -- that would be a huge undertaking and I think the FMV is amazing as-is.  I'd really just like to upscale the opening credits, along with the Credits sequence itself.  I'm already working on making this mod, but learning how to import an upscaled TIM into the game might be harder than it seems.

I gotcha now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I agree, the opening is hands down one of my favorites in all gaming history.

Actually, it was A LOT of hard work -- but no more than any other modder, really.  Unfortunately, the TT game cards can't be edited yet, even though I have a master PNG with the entire set complete and ready to go -- see this post:

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15006.0

Currently, only the in-menu cards will show up as hi-res.

I'm working on a TT mod, fixing the glitches I'm encountering with SeeD, and updating the intro sequence for the game as well (i hope it works!)  If my intro mod works, the steam community could use it!  If only I knew how to hack the hex to be able to resize the TEX and TIM files, the intro would definitely work, and the TT mod would be available for everyone!

I see. Yeah, I wish I knew how to do this stuff to help speed the process a little.

And you mean the Liberi Fatali FMV opening? What's master plan? Or is that a secret/surprise?

Not only does it go 50% transparent, but it becomes low-res.  I've been hunting around for the appropriate file to fix the issue.

I see. No big deal either way. Time to try the new update!

EDIT: Wow, this is really nice... I'm shocked that all the cards have updated images... that must have been a lot of hard work. I really must thank you for such a beautiful looking update on top of an already swell one. I really wish we had more people working on VIII like they've done with VII, but then again, I'm perfectly grateful for the mods we do have... now if we can just work around those HD Magochocobo textures... lol

EDIT2: I'm pretty sure this is specifically on my game, but when I look at the cards on the menu, I see the new/improved HQ ones. When I play TT however, they go back to the LQ ones? Hmm...

I don't know if this has been an issue before, but the pointing hand icon becomes transparent when I pick an enemy to attack.

Was this intentional, or a glitch? If there is a way to fix it, please let me know! Thanks in advance!

It's safe to say Square experimented with every game. And no, I don't mean drugs. And by the way, XIII is big in Japan, they are the fanbase who asked Lightning to return.

Please read.

Most of this thread reads like this:
"I hate change. Unless it's changed exactly the way I wanted it to. Then it's tolerable. But still bad."
Quoting all this as my sig on Gamefaqs. They'll love it there.

19
I'm using the year 2000, PC version of FFVIII, with Aali's Driver + SeeD + RaW mods.

Only thing else I'd like to do is get my PS3 controller working... which it's not.

I'm using BetterDS3. Mapped my buttons, and then proceeded to open FF8Config, and re-mapped the joystick controls again there.

I'm not sure if there was anything else to do after that, but I booted up the game and no joystick response; the game pretends I never mapped anything and the regular keyboard buttons I set work.

I didn't really see any other topics with this specific issue, and I'm not too sure I can find a direct solution, so here I am at these forums asking again.

Thanks in advance.

(P.S. I swear, my avatar is not showing, what's up with that!?)

20
Yeah, this is a small issue with the SeeD mod so I'll search around on that topic.

Thanks a million to all who replied.

21
YES, this is correct.
The last one.
Thanks. Now I wonder what exactly is wrong with this glitch? Everything's working well, just wonder if one or two things may not show due to it.

22
It won't make a difference if it's there or not, popups can't be disabled.

Sorry for asking you to elaborate, but by popups, you mean this kind?

Or this kind?

23
Disable_popup is no longer a function in 0.8b and on.

So then I should have left that line removed and never have it on, right?

24
Hum... that config file is from ff7 0.8b :-\ , there is a new driver 0.8.1b... and you just need ff8_opengl for FF8, skip extracting ff7_opengl, you have no use for that file for FF8.

Forget it... config files have the same name on top... -.- I'm dumb!

I am gonna try and find my ff8 disks to help you out, your current installation is FF8 + AaliDriver + SeeD GUI + Raw correct?

I just realized that lol. And yes, that's what I have.

BUT .....I think I made a giant leap to a total solution. FF8.exe's properties had compatibility mode on Windows XP. (I'm running Windows 8.1 on a laptop) I figured that this being on somehow ruined a lot of the mods and prevented things from working correctly. Turning the box off allowed RaW to run flawlessly!!  ;D

After re-installing the driver thinking that I downloaded the wrong one, I noticed other things too.

1. No popup telling me that I didn't have "disable_popup" on. This is weird because the popup tells me this when I HAVE this line, but it doesn't show when the line isn't there. I'm gonna call that a solution.

2. After changing the mods directory back to "avalanche" to make SeeD run I still get the yellow pop up that I mentioned in problem two in my second post.

Regardless, your comment allowed me to remember something, and as of right now I'm running the game with both mods on, so I have to thank you for that. The only problem left is the yellow popups, and I haven't tried re-changing the window x and y values for an HD upscaling yet so there's that.

Thank you so much! I have to get back to these configurations to see what works now that didn't before.

25
Everytime I change the window x and y values, when the game boots, it tells me

Then proceeds to play the game on a smaller window-ed screen.

This also happens whether I have preserve_aspect on "yes" or "no".

EDIT: *Sigh* I'm very sorry I have to trouble you with my game issues, I can't help but feel bad. I'm just really trying to get these two mods to work and it seems like the game completely ignores Aali's driver-- the fact that I had to manually go into the registry to enable the SeeD mod

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11960.msg192736#msg192736

...even though I had High Res Fonts enabled seems to support that.

I also had a few smaller issues I didn't mention, hoping that once I fixed the grand issue (Having Aali's driver working correctly)

1. When I start the game, I always get this message:

This is weird, because I have that line enabled, and it was enabled since I added in the driver. Here's my ff8_opengl settings.

Code: [Select]
# ff7_opengl-0.8b config file

## USER OPTIONS ##
## If you just want to play the game, these are the only options you'll want to change.

# set the window size (or fullscreen resolution) of FF8
# 0 means use original resolution in window mode, your current desktop resolution will be used in fullscreen mode
# preserve_aspect adds black borders as needed to preserve a 4:3 aspect ratio
window_size_x = 0
window_size_y = 0
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = yes

# mod directory
# subdirectroy of mods/ where textures will be loaded from
# does not affect the old external textures feature, those should still go in textures/
mod_path = avalanche

# check your driver settings if this option doesn't seem to work
enable_vsync = yes

# allow FF8 to use linear filtering for its textures
# some things look slightly better with this option on, but alot of textures just lose their detail
linear_filter = off

## ENHANCEMENTS ##
## All the little extras that weren't part of the original game, default options include only trivial bug fixes.

# post-processing shader, used to apply fullscreen effects
post_source = shaders/bloom2.post
enable_postprocessing = no

## ADVANCED OPTIONS ##
## Don't fiddle with these unless you know what you're doing.

# enable alpha blending for textures without an existing blending effect
fancy_transparency = on

# display frames per second counter in upper right corner
show_fps = no

# display some real-time debug information
show_stats = no

# store external textures in a compressed cache for increased performance
# compression is not lossless, some artifacts may appear when this option is in use
# texture cache does NOT update automatically if the source image changes, however, deleting anything from the cache
# will cause that file to be recreated from the source
compress_textures = yes

# max size of the texture cache to hold in RAM, in megabytes
# don't set it any higher than 1GB unless you want your game to crash
texture_cache_size = 256

# use pixel buffer objects to speed up texture loading
# might crash horribly on ATI cards but should work for NVIDIA users
use_pbo = yes

# use mipmaps (anisotropic filtering) for modpath textures
use_mipmaps = yes

## MODDER OPTIONS ##
## These options are mostly useful to modders and should not be enabled during normal play.

# show every failed attempt at loading a .png texture
show_missing_textures = no
disable_popup = on
load_library = "RaW"

2. Before I get to the game's main menu, I see this yellow text popup:

All in all, those are the issues I'm having, and they all tie into the fact that maybe Aali's driver has not been installed correctly. I've tried deleting everything and just adding the driver, but ticking the high-res font box, the text and menus look worse.

I'm feeling like I'm running out of options here!!  :(

Thanks in advance. I'm not expecting a magical solution, but it always helps to see any kind of small advice.
