Graphical / A few questions before I muck up my archives
« on: 2013-03-13 17:31:51 »
Okay, as far as modding goes, I used to screw with this game on a regular basis, it's been a while though ad I'm looking for some refreshers/help.

I've been using Halkun's FF7 Data compilation to navigate most of my LGP archives, as well as biturn.

With TA's recent releases I've been implementing their models with a fresh install, so far, chibis/feilds/battle models all in and ready to go, the problems I'm stuck at right now is the scenes, I've never messed with them before unless it was in a .exe install lol.

Do the png's need converting or do you just remove the .png from the end, rename it to the correct location (for example OPAC = STAGE09_T00_00) and insert it?

Also, Materia and save point, what archive do they belong in?

I did search a few times but I feel like I might be wording things wrong when I search because I rarely get any results, and even more rarely results that I'm looking for.

Sorry if this is a PITA question.

So my basic questions are -

How to put PNG's into an LGP archive (like what format?)
Where to replace materia and save point files?

Thaks guys

Would anyone be interested in giving me the basics of setting up the server both on and offline and the basics of setting up the forum. I think I have the basic concept, but I just want to be sure.

For starters I need to know what questions to ask of my domain provider, What kind of server I would need to handle the forum offline, what kind of work I need to do with the online area, and how much space is recommended for small forum work. I'm planning on using Simple Machines, like this one. If you have another recommendation I'm open for help and ideas.

Thanks all!

Troubleshooting / Replacement Video not showing
« on: 2010-09-25 09:20:19 »
Okay so here's what I did.

I made an extra backup of my FF disc, Used PowerIso to change the video files for the first two logos. The first being Eidos, the second being Square. I have a nicely remade Eidos to add in and a custom Team Avalanche/SquareSoft/Square Enix one to put in. I added the Team Avalanche and Square Enix to the sqlogo.avi, and that one plays fine. I replaced the Eidos one, and it skips over it. I've tested the video in WMP and it's a perfectly good AVI. Am I missing a key factor here? Is there a command or problem that would prompt FF7 to skip that video without me pressing start/esc.

Help appreciated, Thanks :D

Anyone been keeping updated? thoughts?

Games are, now days, like alcohol used to be.
Remember? Government thought it was dangerous, people loved it, government banned it, people went apeshit, government allowed it again.

While I think that it would be within rights to make the proper age 18 because right now at 17 unless you have a State-supplied ID it is very difficult to prove you're 17.(Tried it with a permit once... don't recommend it  :P)

Aside from that Teen is hard to verify.

I believe that if they restrict the AGE, that the sales of games will not increase or decrease. If they choose to restrict it more-so, then there might be a problem. Not to mention if the games lose their protection under the first amendment, there will be thousands of lawsuits against game-makers.

I do not believe this will pass.

I also cannot believe that the f*cking terminator, of all people... who just played a cameo in the Expendables... is saying games are too violent. Seriously... if you take away games, movies will be next, then either music or literature. I doubt it will make it past games but still... I do not understand the reasoning to California's argument.

I was thinking, after scanning the forums for a while and finding all the times where time (like whole pages worth of questions) has been wasted due to someone not saying they have pirated edition or some pirated edition that the mods don't work correctly with.

I use a forum called ClubCivic to talk about my Civic, and they have a part of the profile that shows up under your picture that states things like

Car:
Horsepower:
ect.

and that feature helps people who take time to fill in those peices (there are a lot more than that) avoid questions like "what model, what chassis, " and so on.

I was thinking, if it would be possible, to add something like

FF7 Edition:

and then a lot of questions could be avoided. Something would have to be linked to a "what edition do I have" link or something but even with that hassle I think in the long run, this could save people a lot of time. Especially when people are oblivious and put "Pirated" "Ultima" and other illegal keywords in the Edition selection.

Just a thought, really didnt know where to go with this thought lol, Sorry if this isn't General FF related material  :P

I'm creating a form page and atm the only form data collection I can get to even function is the mailto.

Does anyone know a good way to collect form data?

I don't have any information of the server i'm hosting on but atm I'm just trying to get it to work off my computer.

So far I've tried to learn Perl but I have had no luck, none of my test pages work with the CGI.

Completely Unrelated / Cheap/Free Reliable Studio Program?
« on: 2010-07-11 16:33:02 »
Is there anything out there like Maya or 3ds that is cheap? or free?

I haven't looked into ordering 3ds much, because I Worked with Maya a lot in school. But looking at Maya prices it's insane.

I have downloaded google sketchup but it doesn't have nearly the same quality, doesn't even seem to be for the same purpose.

If anyone has anything that they use, suggestions would be great.

Not just for me, but for other cheap noobies like me too ^.^

General Discussion / Way to compress to use one disc?
« on: 2010-07-08 08:52:04 »
Is there any way that, besides extracting ISO's and mounting 3 virtual drives, I could Extract all the information from all the discs and compile it onto a DVD disc or something?

I know there is a lot of time between disc changing but wouldn;t it also reduce problems and save disks  if they were all compressed to one disk?

Or would the use of one disk disrupt the use of mods?

General Discussion / Modding the PSX version
« on: 2010-07-07 01:50:45 »
okay, I'd move to a different thread if there was a place I could discuss this matter more in-depth, I just want to mod the damn game.

I'm sure this game is almost off the radar for pirating anyway, considering Square isn't making direct profits on the game itself anymore. But Pirating talk aside.

Can someone direct me to a forum thread on PS1 modding?
If a reply is something close to "find it yourself" that's fine too. I've used the search a few times, either a link or a good keyword search would help.

Thanks.

General Discussion / FF7 is overpriced
« on: 2010-07-06 20:03:37 »
Looking around, the lower prices I've seen have been from $60-$120.

I already own the Playstation version and I really want to try the stuff I see on here. I've modded a lot of other games for PC so I have somewhat of a hand in experience.

Like any other person I, of course, tried the Ultima edition. Many times. With some success, but in the end, ultimate failure. I am not here to condone the use of pirated games, I am simply looking to get my modding fix on with this game. Final Fantasy 7 is an ultimate classic, and the short supply of the PC version in circulation is really tying my hands. If anyone knows of a way to use the Playstation Disc effectively please let me know.

I have a modded PSX and an unmodded one so rewriting the contents isn't a problem. and as much as Ultima edition is pirating, the use of emulators isn't too far off. Not that I have any legal morals or anything, just pointing that out.

Is there anywhere, since qhimm doesn't alloy the illegals like muah, that I can go to talk to people about transforming the ultima or a cracked copy into a usable, moddable version.

I'm not a big PSX game modder. PC is usually more reliable and easy.

So if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it, because I really don't have the money to burn.
