General Discussion / Re: I think we need a mod manager.
« on: 2013-07-06 06:58:59 »
I understand it wouldnt be that simpple. and I think you could find an outside workaround with the second method. But for the first, I don't know how much you were into morrowind, but for modding (and using ALL the mods you wanted) the mod manager wasn't always the best option. You had to extract the files and overwrite the existing ones, much like we do with LGPs. the only difference is, Morrowind's "LGP" files are unpacked to begin with. and the game calls upon specific files found within the data folders.

Similar to the compatibility issues people face in FF7, if you just kept unpacking files into the data folder it wouldnt matter what box you had checked, characters would appear white or black and things would spazz out all the time.

I think creating the game profiles would be a nice work around for the time being.

As for having FF7 use the "mod mode" where the game pulls fom uncompiled LGP archives... I think it would work, but I don't think everyones system could handle it.

Even if it would slow the PC down, wouldn't it be feasible to extract all the LGP files into respective folders and run the files from there?

For installing and uninstalling it would be similar to methods used in Oblivion and Morrowind. Keep all the modded LGPs in folders named by the mod title, and as the user wants to install them, extract them into the already extracted core LGP folders.

You would still have comparability issues (similar to ones experienced in the early elder scroll days) but it would be easy to do a clean sweep without reinstalling the game. You could just switch back to the compressed LGP files that would remain untouched.

Another method (and this would be for people with terabyte+ HDDs would be seperate installs or just seperate data file folders. (Data1, Data2, Data3 etc) and running a program like bootleg to create a few different game profiles. then the only hassle would be creating a program that could differentiate between the profiles upon user request (a launcher of sorts). It would be great if there were a launcher similar to skyrim with like 4 options, Start Game, Change Game Profile, Change Music Profile (with cooperation from FF7Music), and maybe an Uninstall or Open FF7 Folder option.

Just some Ideas. I'm not a script writer or anything so Ideas are all I have lol.

8GB Ram? get rid of that 2 tera drive and just reuse an old HDD use the SSD for boot and long term programs. Go AMD and save yourself about 500 dollars since the graphics card is AMD. Also make sure the graphics card is on a card with a good heat-sink and fan. XFX has a dual fan setup. The Sapphires are cheaper but they get hot real quick and for the price difference I'd rather have the XFX. For rendering and editing I would grab an 8 core FX as they just dropped to about 170 bucks and you can run them at about 4.0 (which is lower than the quad-core, but the power gets distributed much better. grab at least 16gb ram, preferably like 32 to help out on render times.

Thats a quick breakdown, I just had to post considering that build posted before me is overpriced and underpowered, and that card is not worth 650 dollars. I'd also gram something with a 27in tall case to improve airflow but thats just me. If I had the know-how I could probl render a lot of shit for you guys and never put my PC under much stress.

I used to 3d model but have sinced lost my programs and I get frustrated with blender because I don't understand it lol.
if anyone ever needs anything done and can send me what program to use and what to do, I can try to lend some PC power, just pm me

thanks, using the google spreadsheet here makes it easy to navigate most the LGPs files, If I get the time I might update it a little more since it's been a while since anyone's contributed. One of Halkun's projects from a long time ago.

Thanks for the help.

The unified installer is fine, but I'm trying to use TA's Cloud/sweeper/scorpion they just released. and all of those are implemented perfectly. I just don't know where to put the materia files, as well as the save point. Also, I don't have a mods folder, what mod adds the mod folder or plugin support for a mods folder?

I have Aalis opengl 7 i believe and all the patches up and running. The game runs fine I just really want to get the battle screens from the TA project working because they are a huge improvement.

Graphical / A few questions before I muck up my archives
« on: 2013-03-13 17:31:51 »
Okay, as far as modding goes, I used to screw with this game on a regular basis, it's been a while though ad I'm looking for some refreshers/help.

I've been using Halkun's FF7 Data compilation to navigate most of my LGP archives, as well as biturn.

With TA's recent releases I've been implementing their models with a fresh install, so far, chibis/feilds/battle models all in and ready to go, the problems I'm stuck at right now is the scenes, I've never messed with them before unless it was in a .exe install lol.

Do the png's need converting or do you just remove the .png from the end, rename it to the correct location (for example OPAC = STAGE09_T00_00) and insert it?

Also, Materia and save point, what archive do they belong in?

I did search a few times but I feel like I might be wording things wrong when I search because I rarely get any results, and even more rarely results that I'm looking for.

Sorry if this is a PITA question.

So my basic questions are -

How to put PNG's into an LGP archive (like what format?)
Where to replace materia and save point files?

Thaks guys

I think this would be the Ideal model-style to go for... I actually really like the way he pretty much fits in with the FMV Cloud.

Great idea!
Very nice model!

Graphical / Re: Barret AC Version,
« on: 2012-08-18 20:00:25 »
Idk if I would bother releasing. The problem with the Barret model is that everyone has a similar but slightly different interpretation of what Barret acted like. Since it was an all-text game, you gave him your own voice. What we really need is completed models for the rest of the team, since there are probably 4-5 models for Barret floating around, and 9 or 10 Clouds (I didn't actually count, just guessing).

Your model isn't bad, but personally I think its just too personalized to be released. Although someone might PM you for it at some point. If you think you're up to it, head ofer to the TA threads and see if there are any models/fields you could take over and complete with the texturing skills you have. (Texturing help is needed too!). The more help we have, the sooner the TA HD mod will be released and then we'll have a full (well almost full, more like 2/5) HD FF7.

Good work, keep at it.

The eyes look 150% better with the new picture reference. Just need to get him a good plastic surgeon for that nose issue he's got going on. Other than that the face looks good. Although I wonder if you could make him look slightly less angry. In all my time playing I always saw Vincent as distraught about his past, and maybe angry inside, but he seemed to always keep his composure. The brows make him look menacing, and while he is intimidating, I don't think they suit him well... Other Opinions?

Great work so far though, the face is the hardest part to nail, and it seems like you've got a good start.

Also, look out for that "Cross" on his face that the lighting is creating. The upper face on your new one looks a lot better/smoother with the lighting, but his chin still has that straight bar of light that looks unnatural.

Releases / Re: [Project] FF7 Re-animated
« on: 2012-08-01 13:45:18 »
I second the "looks like cloud is running on a soapy floor in the world map" notion :p

All in all; looks great.

A few minor things I noticed, just from the video, so they may already be tweaked.

1. Cloud's field running - similar to the world map, but it seems like some of it is over-exaggerated. I think the new animation looks like he's marathon running. Maybe to make it look a little more realistic, slow him down a little, (like with the world map, trying to match his pace with his rate of movement), and maybe adjust his body angle. Here are two decent reference videos, the only suggestion I make that differs from these two videos is the possibility of adding a lean in his body, a slight angle forward. I just see Cloud as the "Heroic Charge" type of runner, but it might be awkward to have him doing it all the time. Definitely a trial and error type of thing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rflLmtUWnrA&feature=fvwrel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USTO4-FAL_E

2. Standing animation is a great improvement. That said, a few tweaks would make it look a little more realistic. I'm not sure how easily it can be done, but would it be possible to add a sway, more than the lifting, to the arms while he stands. A combination of the both maybe.

I'm curious, how many frames/how much time-loop do you have to work with on the standing still animation. Is it possible that we could have cloud doing something, stretching after a certain amount of time. Like in a lot of newer games if you let your characters stand they tend to do whatever they please in a sense. ( just an example) The only real concern with this if it can be done, is if it will interrupt the long speech sections where all characters stand while speech bubbles go wild.

I just mean to be constructive, The way it is, it is a huge step into bringing FF7 to the modern era of games. It's funny how a lot of details such as this are some of the defining points for modern gaming and modern playable characters as well as NPCs

Great work! :)

I would just keep your posts. If a moderater locks/deletes that's their business. as far as a troubleshooting thread I think this would assist many people with legitimate problems with perfectly legal and yes, perfectly illegal copies.

In all honesty, no matter what the forum, or site you are visiting tolerates. I would never, ever, outright tell people you are using downloaded ISO's off the web, just a helpful tip. I don't care if you bought 40 copies of the original, the downloading is still Illegal unless they are YOUR files. That said, I'm not saying you're wrong to do it, plenty of pirated games work fine. But for the sake of yourself and the sanity of those around you (especially moderators on forums), if you question the legality of the game you have, don't bring it up period. If the people helping you can't figure out whats wrong, then assume you have a bad copy. You don't want to be throwing information and questions like "Hey interwebs, I just stole this game, can you help me make it work?"

So for future reference, always keep incriminating information to yourself, because the people on this forum could not care less about what you do outside of this forum as far as piracy, ripping models, and other copyright infringing business.

Not trying to be a d*ck, just trying to give you a heads up to make sure you don't get yourself into some trouble for no good reason other than some loose-lip syndrome.

and personally, I think 47 bucks is way too much for this game, Its good but... damn! lol, I understand why people download it all the time.

Best of luck with your issues.

13
You are best trying one mod at a time, separately, and then slowly, using them together to see where your problem occurs. and please, use the edit feature instead of posting 4 times in a row. Thanks

make sure it is always running as admin, and double check that (since you say your antivirus messed with one of your mods) all of your mods are complete, if that means re-downloading, then I suggest you give it a shot just to be sure.

Another big thing that will nudge along your success in modding is using up to date mods, be sure to look around the forum and check to see the latest releases, using old mods with new ones can result in issues, and it could also run fine. So remember to back-up ALL of the files you are changing (also a good Idea to keep 2 installations of FF7 on your PC in different folders, so if you need to revert to basics, the option is there to drag and drop).

Like I said originally, after you find up to date mods and have everything you want, implement them one at a time to see where you get your problem. and then check that mod's page for known issues and maybe you will find an answer. Just take some time to research and do your best to find the source of your problem. Once you know that, it becomes much easier for us to help.

Also do you have the remix installed? you didn't say what all you added in your latest fresh install? and if you are selecting from the bootleg, what battle models are you selecting?

14
Really like your adaptation of the Battle model. Your videos show a little bit of lagginess in the model. Such as the jump, the body is so stiff, granted, the original was very stiff, but the low-res texture made it okay. I'm not an expert on any mechanical engineering of the game, but I would suggest comparing your Barret to the original's size. The fact that your model is more fairly/properly proportioned may be whats giving it that sense of buggy-ness. I'm sure with help from any of the talented people on this forum your model would fit for a splendid field model.

I don't see why the authors of the original model would have any problem with release, seeing as you are doing the same thing that they did to TA's Cloud field model. I would really like to see your model put in to play with TA work if they would accept it.

General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy VII Fan Made Remake
« on: 2011-12-06 12:00:43 »
Terrible for oh so many reasons.

I concur with this. 100%.

16
If option 2 is carried out, the game really doesn't need any changes besides text and a few cinematic scenes. Seeing as Sephiroth IS in a way a "replica" (I use the term loosely) of Cloud or the other way around. They are both people caught up in the same predicament, taking two separate routes at a fork in the road. Giving Hojo the textual premise to create a clone of Sephiroth would NOT be difficult at all, and Young Sephiroth could make complete sense in all of Clouds flashbacks because I don't remember Sephiroth being in Clouds Childhood memories. The plot of a Clone gaining self-awareness and a certain Loathing of the world pretty much is what the premise of Sephiroths character already is.

In my honest opinion, option 2 is the most logical (and probably the easier) route to pursue.

To each their own though, I just think the Idea of an evil cloud is silly, and hard to make believable to people who have played the game. I mean, why is this badass dude being tormented by this spiky-headed little asshole in a purple jumpsuit? Just a though ;)

But I wish you the best in either scenario.

17
I've been playing again recently and I've noticed one thing that bugs the sh*t out of me. Aerith's hair in battle. Is there any way that the animation can be altered for her hair. It looks like the a snake or something. It looks bad with the old blocky animation, I can Imagine it to look even sillier with HiDef graphics. Is there any explanation as to why her hair is as active as it is? To think that there is a constant gust of wind following her everywhere is insane lol.

Also, when she is standing next to Tifa, whose hair is longer and not pony-tailed or anything, it is awkward that Aerith's hair is going crazy. I mean, Aerith is a caster, Tifa is a bruiser. I just thought I'd put this out there.

The battle in this Vid ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jraXR2z2YdA&feature=related ) shows the hair movement and comparison to Tifa quite well as a reference.

So just to be clear you can add anything aslong as you made it?

In a legal sense and to the rules of this forum, You can post anything you have made from scratch or with permission from the maker HERE. And as copyright says, you can NOT distribute models that you steal from one game or another anywhere because you do not own the RIGHTS.

Here is the part you should remember. You own the contents of games that you bought to do with what you will as long as you keep it to yourself. Rip any model  from any game and throw it in however you would like. Hell, you MIGHT even be allowed to show us pictures of your finished product. You just can't upload a mod or patch with any of your customizations that are from other games.

You MAY encourage people to purchase games to rip models from, but stay away from publicly explaining how to do so (although I think that IS legal, just frowned upon) . Just remember to do your research and ask questions before posting anything you create on here. If you think it might be infringing copyright laws, It probably is.

Just something for everyone to keep in mind. Keep your copyright infringing mods on YOUR ff game and square won't bother you because you have done nothing wrong.

The weapons in this mod look great. Vincent looks, in a way, the same. There was no increase in quality, just an adjustment of his model. I do like the model, even though some sizing is off, like his pants. A great first model, but all in all, this mod is to change the appearence of Vincent and not really enhance it.

Some things to look at if you decide to enhance the quality, Textures in the hair, facial sizing, headband size, small things like that. The cape actually looks really good, and I like the shadowing over his eyes. Good work, keep it up. The Guns are excellent, you seem to have a great talent.

Deathstroke (MK vs DC Comics) - My personal favorite character of the DC and Marvel lineup, considering Deathstroke and Deadpool are nearly one and the same :P

Nicole-458 (Dead or Alive 4) - Because she is a f*cking Halo Spartan! :P

I think "Game Mechanics" will still draw in those people thinking that they can post their modded errors. You need something that bluntly states that the forum they are entering is hosting highly technological conversations about the game data and the compilation/engineering/using/dumping/changing of that data. That's why I voted for the one that may be a little big but it has an intimidation factor with it.

I read a really in depth review today that blew my mind. I'm also kind of pissed that some reviewers believe Bethesda has lost their interest in TES series. I mean really? Have they seen how far its come due to the dedication of Bethesda? I do agree that they found a ridiculously plump cash cow with Fallout 3, but Elder Scrolls will outlive Fallout by a long shot. Bethesda has done nothing but (surprisingly) listen to their fans. Oblivion was a great game, but a bit of a disappointment (for console gamers especially) in the end, very anti-climatic "ending". The NPCs that just stand around or move back and forth. Now, these NPCs have functions and roles in their cyber-society. The NPC's also have tons of new dialogue and reactions. The AI in this game is sounding to be revolutionary. Don't forget the fact that they are keeping the modding tools available for people who would like to add quests of their own or download from others. The animations with Havok technologies are seemingly impressive. I've done some research and watched a lot of Havok animation, it's top of the line. Its beautifully fluid. To the biggest hurdle Bethesda has claimed to overtake though: The landscape and lighting. We're supposed to be seeing fully dynamic lighting plus high detail distance textures. It is rumored that the foliage is supposed to be very lifelike, and I've heard a more specific rumor that we could be seeing 3D brush and bramble (instead of the combination of tons of 2D models) for the first time in TES series.

This game is carrying a lot of weight. I do agree that the story doesn't seem too enticing, although we could be surprised. Above all else though I believe that the game-play will be phenomenal.

(Thanks, Yu Yu Hakusho does rule  :-D )
