Any way you could check if the patch was installed?

That's still kind of iffy. I don't like opening an executable that's been patched the way YAMP patches and look for specific code. It's sometimes in different places depending on what order you applied patches.

i don't think i will ever make that panic button since i do expect people to make a new save and not save over one the game made. (but maybe one day. i will get that done.)

Yeah, like I said, it's probably overkill. It's the responsibility of the user to make backups and such. But if you want to be able to make a savegame from scratch that's probably just as good.

well when it comes time to make from scratch, the kernel will be needed. since most of the default save is located there i will start w/ that. but im not quite ready for that yet. i still have bugs and unused things to fix up.

The 40-bit checksum is not a checksum. It's an digital signature created by the PS3 hardware. You can't alter it unless you have the master key which is owned by Sony.
so in otherwards you basicly have to hack the DRM of the ps3 to edit the save file , yea i would for sure need at least one ps3 to even make an attempt at this.

update: does this work ?
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/927750-playstation-3/answers?qid=19831 . that might just be a way to get the ps3 to sign them for us..

The max that dziugo's patch allows is 32767  (7FFFh or the upper limit of a signed WORD). When making WM, I was concerned about enforcing game-given restrictions too, but that detracts from total customization (as in, you SHOULD allow them to add those unnamed items and materia to their inventories if they want). Any game-breaking that would occur would be the problem of the end user. Maybe have a "panic button" that returns things to acceptable known values. That's probably overkill, but there's nothing more annoying than a corrupted save game and not knowing how to fix it. :(

ok good to know the max (take it that both hp and mp since there both signed 2byte numbers), and you can add all those "don't use" items and materia w/ black chocobo, i just figured i would name them accordingly. i don't think i will ever make that panic button since i do expect people to make a new save and not save over one the game made. (but maybe one day. i will get that done.)

i have both the PSX and PC versions.  thats how much i liked it :) , ok i found ff7 and ff8 for the pc in the clearance section of walmart. come to think of it i think they were only like $10 a piece. thats mainly why i got that copy, well that and i expect i to have a pc longer then a working psx, figured it would be a good idea.

just put the cd in your cd drive and install it, don't worry about using the isos yet. first get the game working.

i have a question about dziugo's patch. What is the max HP/MP you can have w/ that patch? i can very easily change it. i have just been trying to avoid users being able to break saves w/ values set to high for stats.it also makes it a bit more difficult to do pc<->psx <-> emulator save conversion since the psx does not (as far as i know) have a patch to break those limits. but if thats a feature you all want i will make it part of the 1.0 release. it should be ready soon i almost have all my goals completed for release.if you decide you can't wait that long compile your own version from the b.chocobo source (its included in 0.9). its very easy to do open the Black Chocobo.pro file in qtcreator then you will have to change mainwindow.ui. just click on the boxes and change there max vaule(s) to what ever you feel is good. no programing required! then build or run.

p.s, it makes me very happy to read this thread. and the other save editor for ff8 is called Hyne (i know cause i compile the linux 64bit and mac os version for myst6re) that editor has made me very extra upset because i can only find 2/5 of my ff8 pc disks.

i would love to add that feature to Black chocobo, but sadly i don't own a ps3 , if anyone wants to donate one to me. ill be happy to hack that checksum and add the ability to my save editor :)
You have mad skill if you can figure out how a 40 byte long checksum works without reverse engineering. :o
i have never seen on of the files. but as i said i would be happy to do so.

@mav60, yes do send me a copy i will see what i can do. i can't promise that it will work and i can't test it so i will have to make my edits and send it back to you. and right now black chocobo does not convert saves so don't try it, the conversion process is in the works.

also if you use 0.77b of aali's driver you want to fill all your save slots, if you need a save they can be downloaded somewhere around here, also my save editor (black chocobo) comes w/ sample saves. once you have a save game copy and paste it untill you save directory has
save00.ff7 - save09.ff7 that will save you a crash w/the newest driver

FF7 Tools / Re: Official Black Chocobo Help Thread

Nice work- it works after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04-LTS now :]

the program requires qt 4.6.2 or higher on the windows and mac versions its packed in to the exe but for linux, its needed in your libs. so from ubuntu 10.04 on it should work provided you install libQt

And I'm sorry, I have to learn much and I don't have much time to translate- but I will go on and finish it soon, be patient please x)

no hurry don't worry :P

Progress Update: 5/08/10
New: French Translations (by myst6re) will be included in next release, if you need it now let me know i can send it to you or post here. with instructions.

New: Chocobo's Can Be added to stables!
new: battle, battle message + field message speeds can be set.
WIP more setting in game options

Progress Has Been Slowed down since i have bunches of other stuff going on and black chocobo is mostly a complete replacement for all other known ff7 save game editors. so would now like to ask everyone what features they feel should be added and in what order of importance, in order to spend the little time i have in spots that would be the most preferred features.

1465
with the newest verion of aali's driver (0.7.7b) you have to make each save game or it will crash so take your save00.ff7 and copy/paste and rename to save01.ff7 - save09.ff7

So I'm guessing it's all or nothing, huh?

basicly since the apz buster sword and millenia's use the same file for their texture.

1467
GlovePie Can map just about any input to any other input. provided you script it correctly.

i don't think u want screen shots. all the weapons i've tried are white. since the texture don't work , but they're shaped nicely. got a few other things going on but i'll see if i might be able to get them to show nicely in game. ,

@ eslava, i was just about to check them in biturn

1472
Umm... nooo. I just simplified all the side junk too, what you guys and gals want to see nostalgic wise but with new graphics.

oh well then in that case. i would like to see basically what TA has already started to do simply an update of the style w/ higher res textures and models. i really don't think that there is to much you could add to it with out ruining the game.
example:(world map)
you really can't redo the world map style cause you would basically end up w/ ff12. now image that. running around the world map as a large zones. it sure sounds good until you realize that if you put enemies one the map your sorta forced in to a 12 style battle system,or a chrono trigger style walk in to to fight map., keep the random battles but make it 3d. no matter what you do to it in 3d it would make the world map a completely lame and pointless area other then to travel along. it would also most likely increase the amount of travel time from point to point and as we all know that would kinda be a bummer since most of the game your outside w/o a vehicle just running around, i think that would make the game a lot more boring also even easier since you would be outside fighting stuff gaining levels more

i sense much fail in this.

1473
And keep the mistranslation in Aeris' name, and also make it so that there's a way to revive her!

why wait for a remake i can already bring her back from the dead , with my save editor :)
