several mods and mod settings cause Crash
« on: 2019-02-21 20:59:59 »
there are several options and mods that will cause insta Crash with a "something went seriously wrong" error
the following mods cause a crash on start up:
The Reunion (regardless of the exe i use. and i've tried all 3 just to make sure)
Animations
The following mod SETTINGS cause a crash upon usage:
Tweaks and cheats:
Lucky tifa: Crash when i select her Limit Break
God mode: Crash upon getting targeted
Lock Inventory: Crash upon opening menu

also of note:
there's a good 10ish second delay when loading the world map. regardless of the situation (i.e. coming out of a battle or a town)
and an even longer delay when loading mini games (Bike chase, Chocobo racing, Fort condor)
not sure why this is happening.
and to test i activated JUST cheats and tweaks with save anywhere and lucky tifa.
guess what? still crashes -_-
any ideas?

Hi,

I was having a similar issues with crashes, I found disabling always run in tweaks and cheats resolved these.

I've been unable to work out why the world map takes so long to load, I've even disabled the mods related to the world map; didn't help. I've even tried and old fix for vanilla ff7, use win98 compatibility mode; this causes a delayed start and the world map still takes for ever to load. Will test further.  For now I'm playing the world map un-modded.

edit:

Ok on further testing appears to be the more mods enabled, longer delay on loading the world map. Can have 4 mods enabled before the delay starts to become noticeable. Looks like a memory leak to me. I'm getting delays of 30 seconds with all the mods I use enabled, I suspect this is being caused by playing ff7 on a VM. Windows 7 1 cpu, 4gb ram & GPU 1GB, vmware player on ubuntu 18.04:  4 core i5, 16gb ram, Nvidia GTX 1050Ti 4GB

I suspect this is being caused by playing ff7 on a VM. Windows 7 1 cpu, 4gb ram & GPU 1GB, vmware player on ubuntu 18.04:  4 core i5, 16gb ram, Nvidia GTX 1050Ti 4GB
Are you able to feed it another vCPU?  I also play on a Win7 VM, though using Virtualbox instead of VMWare Player, and the only noticeable lag I get with a nearly identical mod list (I turned off Avalanche after leaving Midgar) is when entering into battle.

@TheOmegaFactor, please provide your load order.

@LordUrQuan Unfortunately my host machine doesn't appear to cope very well with using another vcpu, as I get more freezes, it doesn't hang all together though. Does virtualbox support 3d acceleration now?

Tom.

You've probably checked this already, but just to be sure, have you enabled VT-x and any other virtualization toggles in your BIOS?

Does virtualbox support 3d acceleration now?
I don't know about Linux hosts, but my setup is a Win10 Pro x64 host, i3-4150 CPU, GTX 960 GPU, 16GB RAM.  The guest I eventually settled on is Win7 Pro x64, 2 vCPU, VboxVGA 256MB, 4GB RAM.  One of the tricks to getting Dx8/9 running is that you have to install the guest additions package while in safe mode.  Whether or not that's required for aali's driver to work I haven't tested, since I never run without the GA package.  Additionally, the new (and eventually better) VboxSVGA graphics adapter doesn't seem to expose OpenGL support as of v6.0.4.

Hi,

- have you enabled VT-x and any other virtualization toggles in your BIOS?

Believe they are enabled, will double check though.

No issues with directx on vmplayer, just let steam installed the required and then run the converter.

Thanks

It gives me the error regardless of which mods I have activated.  The only time I don't get the Code 5 error is when I don't have any mods activated, but then it doesn't launch FF7 at all.

Hi,

@TheOmegaFactor Short trying one combination at a time with tweaks and cheats, till you find the conflict causing the issue; I'm not sure what else to suggest. But your system specs may give some insight?

@hdavis70 "C:\users\TurBoss doesn't exist...so not sure why it's looking for a file there." Sounds like your setup is borked. I would remove 7th heaven, ff7 and reinstall and run the convertor again.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I removed ff7, ran the remove-keys, resinstalled ff7, repatched with 7th Heaven 1.54, redid the settings and downloaded the Vehicles mod as a test, and I get the same Error.

Not sure what to do...

tOF... your machine specs certainly shouldn't be the issue (they're better than mine, even within a VM!), so I went back to your original app log and noticed this at the end...
[00001769] Exiting MAIN
[00001769] [BATTLE] Entering FRAME_INITIALIZE
[00001769] [BATTLE] Scene# 197
[00001769] [BATTLE] Exitting FRAME_INITIALIZE
[00001769] ERROR: unhandled exception
Together with how you describe many of the mods causing crashes as soon as on of their functions comes into play, I'm starting to think that perhaps there's something in your install that got corrupted, rather than what you're trying to do.  That, or perhaps Win10's memory protection algos are getting in the way.  Have you tried reinstalling (as admin), and/or running in compatibility mode (Win98 + Admin, or WinXP + Admin) yet?

Run it all as admin.  FF7 was released during the days of Windows 98, where everything ran as admin equivalent because Win 9x had no concept of not-admin (NT 3.x and 2k did, but nobody used those for gaming).

should I reinstall all mods while running as admin then set the FFVII exe to run as admin & win98 Compatibility as well?
cause i don't see anyone else running into these issues T_T and i LOVE using tifa but her limit break is annoying to fully pull off
will have to find time for all this.
may as well download the mods all over again too.... for the 5th or more time X_X

Mod reinstall - You shouldn't need to.  Just set the 7H and FF7 executables to admin and compatibility.

Edit:  I just went and double-checked what my settings were, and the three ff7 executables are all default (that is, no special settings or changes from default).  7H has "Run as Admin" enabled, but that's it.  This is within a Win7 Pro x64 virtual machine.
