FF8 and Win2K

I was wondering if anyone else has experiencd this problem...

My Computer:
Asus A7V /w Duron 650 (Running at 880)
ATI Xpert 98 (8MB VRAM)
Dual boot: Win98 and Win2K

I installed FF8 on the Win98 configuration, and it works *almost* flawlessly (some slowdown during battle scenes due to my cheap vid card).

Since Win2K is MUCH faster then Win98 (at least on MY computer it is) I wanted to install it there as well... but when I start the game, all that happens is the screen flashes... then nothing. The game does not start... the system doesn't lock up... like I never even clicked the icon. I tried Win2K Service Pack 1 with no effect.

Another note regarding FF8CONFIG:
Under Win98, all graphics features PASS,
while uner Win2K, they all pass EXCEPT 8-bit Palletized Textures. What's the deal with THAT? Latest ATI drivers for Win2K do nothing except slow my graphics down.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Have you downloaded and installed DirectX for Win2000?  I'am not sure what version of DirectX Win2000 comes with, but the same thing happened to me in 98.  After I installed DirectX 8 everything said pass.
