Some more feedback coming your way!

I played through the game up to the point where I'm supposed to clim the sector 7 plate with version 0.1.2.1.  AeroBuster was a bitch until I started using limit breaks in a smart way against him.  That battle was perfect, forced me to use some strategy instead of only one limit break in the back as usual.  However the sewer + train graveyard part didn't seem to be as hard as the rest of the game so far even though I almost died to Corneo's pet (one more wave and I was done for).

I'll probably have some time in a few days to finish Midgar.

Wow.  Amazing progress in such a short time.

You were even able to fiddle with the attacks.  As for changing animations, I'm thinking some animations might be used for certain spells even if it's not the intended one.  Sure for Guard Scorpion using fire instead of rifle looks ridiculous but changing a magic for another would still leave a magic animation which could probably fit the bill no ?

Finally had some time to give this a go.  Apart from some hardly noticeable clipping problems which I didn't really care about, this thing is the best thing to come along since sliced bread (or the original game anyway).

Great job Reunion (and you too Borde, especially for the Avalanche members models).

I gave the #1 reactor a go today.

After the first battle I was wondering if the patch was really on or not.  But after 2 or 3 I noticed a big chunk of my health was gone contrarily to normal.  And from there things got really hairy.  I had to run away from 2 or 3 enemies to make it back after Guard Scorpion.

All I can say is great job.  I find it's a perfect balance between being hard but not being too frustrating.  Nice going.

Great little program.  I'm sure it'll be useful.

However I was thinking, would it possible to also be able to edit monster's elemental attributes ?  It'd be nice to be able to make some enemies immune or resistent to some types of elements to make the strategy more important than just using almost any spell.

Also, since it seems possible to edit to steal/morph items and rate, would it be possible to edit the spells and their rate of use by an enemy ?  For example, it'd be neat to give more enemies the ability to use haste or to give them bolt 3 instsead of bolt 2, etc.

Just a thought.

I'm certainly looking forward to this  This would give the game a whole lot more replay value.  Along with Reunion's and Saint's patches, this is starting to feel like a whole new game!

If you ever need help with something that can be done using a simple tool such as using M4v3er's scene edit, just PM me and I'll do my best to help out.

I'd suggest registering at www.ngemu.com

They're the official epsxe forums and will be able to help you with game specific issues like yours.  Especially ff9 which is a pretty popular game.

I know I solved crashes of one of Cid's limit break by enabling windows 98 compatibility mode on one of my computers.  You set it in the properties of your shortcut to ff7.  Might work for you.

Megagames has a few ppf patches.  I remember seeing some for FF9 but I don't know which version.

You might want to check it out.

PS : If the download fails at Megagames, try again later.  They seem to have somewhat unreliable mirrors.

Hasn't rescalling the background already been tried and failed because the game would treat the scaled images as if they were only 320x200 images like the originals and cut off some parts while scaling them ?

If it were possible however, I think I remember from way back then that using corel draw 7 to expand pictures gave me amazing results compared to paint shop pro (that was the version 4 at the time if I'm not mistaken).  I really know nothing about this but couldn't some program have better algorithms than others to do these things ?  If so, assuming that the game a) will accept bigger background b) some program could scale up the images better than the other c) we get a tool than can unpack and repack the background files d) someone actually can take the time to do this it could be done.  I'd think it'd probabaly be simpler to try an apply some kind of filtering to the background images for someone with the knowledge of such things like Saint suggested in his readme than to go through all of this, but then again I have no real idea of the scope of the work involved in modifying the ff7 engine.

BTW, I'm going to try the patch pretty soon so if I get any bugs, I'll be sure to let you know.  Great job on the release.

I'd just like to say that this is getting to be better and better.  Hang on and keep up the great work.  I know this thing is definately one of the best things that happened to ff7 in a long while (especially with Saint nearing completion on his hi-res patch).  Exciting times indeed.

Nice going.  Keep up the good work.  I'll most definately get this once it's done.

Amazing progess still.  You obviously put a lot of time of time and effort into this.  Really great job.

I think I suggested that already but wouldn't it be possible to make some kind of external mp3 loop plugin to work with the winamp one or something ?  There are already some that loop on the winamp page but not the whole song, you have to set "markers" in the song for it to loop.  But it shouldn,t be too hard if fice had an option in his program for a loop plugin no ?

I'm far from being an expert but this sounds like a missing movie file to me.

Although in your other thread where you talked about gaia cliff, how did you get to that point ?  did you change anything since then ?

If I read correctly, the runtime error started appearing when you enabled win95 compatibility mode right ?

If so then you should try putting it in win 98 compatibility mode instead.  And if that fails, juste disable compatibility mode.  Your swap file issue should be fixed now anyway.

420
that's because performance disables AA and AF altogether.  hence no gridlines

I remember I had alot of trouble to make it start working one time.  That part seems kinda unresponsive sometimes.  I just mashed the buttons and eventually it gave one swing and the others followed after that.  Keyboard or gamepad didn't make any difference there either.

So you should just try mashing teh corresponding buttons.  Poor advice I know but it worked for me!

Archive / Best soundfont currently?
« on: 2005-03-05 17:27:02 »
I asked the same question a while ago over in this thread http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=2822&

It has links to two soundfounts.  If you want to try them out I'd use ficedula's tool that enables you to listen to the games midis (forgot what it's called).  it'll give you an idea of how both sound in the game.  Both have their strong and weak points.

I'd rather use a soundfount myself than ff7music because with ff7music, the game crashes more frequently.  And when I'm leveling up in the north cave and I haven't saved in 2 or 3 hours I gets me pretty pissed off when it crashes.  Anyway, these two soundfount sound pretty damn good and it's more stable with those than with ff7music in my experience even though ff7music is a GREAT program.

EA has the worse technical support ever.  Their replies all seem automated.  I specifically say I use the latest driver in my e-mail about a game and the only suggestion they give is to update my graphics driver.  Bunch of morons.

Prohosting never works for me.  I always get stuck at that page with the name of the file and the prohosting banner.  They used to be great, I even had a site there.  Now they're crap.

Archive / A new ask: How to run ff7 in 1024x768 or higher?
« on: 2004-11-06 21:30:33 »
Right now the best way to play it at a higher resolution is with the PSX version and a PSX emulator such as epsxe (http://www.epsxe.com).

It works almost as good as the original.  Only drawback is you can't use the tweaks like the hand patch, hi-res cloud, ffmusic, etc.
