hmm.. You have a Transparancy map applied to the surface? Cause it sounds like you didn't. Did you accidently put it on Translucency? That happens sometimes...

Beyond that, all i can tell you is that you should play around and learn the software. Use tutorials or books, if you wish, but I find that you learn more from just playing, than you doing by following tutorials or books.

Which is why patching is such a good idea. The problem is that everyone has such different problems, that it'd be incredibally hard to track them all down. And since not all of us are skilled in finding or dealing with said bugs, it makes it even harder to ge them fixed. But once we do it, I see no reason we can't shove all the patchs together and fix them all at the same time...

Guiniue pig, Beta-tester... It means the same thing...

LW Importer: It works, but only for version 2.5 and 3.0. I have 4.5, and I've already tried to install it. Didn't work. And I don't have a copy of 3.0 anymore... :weep:

Well... Worry about the Nurbs after you get the polygons working.

While Maya imports .obj files, that's not it's primary format. Maya uses mostly Maya Binary files (.mb) and Maya ASCII files (.ma). They also seem to be version specific, like most .max files... (IE: Maya 4.0 file won't work with Maya 3.0, and sometimes, vice version, but not often...)

Here is a link to the Maya Dev tools section at Highend3D.com. They have a ton of info there. Here's a direct link to the Maya 4.5 Dev Kit.

If you can figure out a way to import LW Metanurbs as Maya Nurbs, you will be a GOD to a LOT of people!

Oh, if you have Windows 2000, or XP, it'll work. They're on the NT platform, remember?

And feel free to use me as your guiniue pig if you need to.

This isn't really FF7 related, but it is technically related.

I need someone to create a program or something that will convert a Lightwave object (model) into a Maya 4.5 object.

I know Mirex has had a lot of experience with Lightwave objects, and I can get you a Maya 4.5 SDK, no problem.

Anyone wish to tackle this topic? If so, please respond!

Thanks in Advance!

I dunno. It does play the older games, like Metal Gear Solid 2... I don't know if any of the other games work...

1.   Which is theLatest Series of PS2.

Version 7. (SCPH-3900x)

2.   Whats the Major difference in PAL and NTSC systems as I know Pal systems are U.K based and    NTSC systems are USA based, is there any other difference like speed and Mainboards ETC.

The only difference is the way they display the information. (Due to the television standards of the areas.) There IS a graphics difference between a Japanese NTSC PS2 and a USA NTSC PS2, but it has no real effect on the gameplay, or the look. (Something about graphics chips in the Japanese ones that the goverment also uses, forcing them to change the design for the USA PS2s...)

3.   How should I check the Serial No. of BIOS of PS2 before buying a system because the dealers    here in my country (Pakistan) will cheat me and they change the upper case of PS2 and sell    me old one.

Short of booting it up, there is no way that I know of to check the SCPH Number, without trusting the box. There is a hole in the bottom of the box that has shows the Serial number on the case, but as you said, the dealers could switch it out on you. You might want to consider ordering one online. Should be a similar price, minus the shipping...

4.   Someone told me that the "R" series PS2 Models are the best, is it true ?
No Clue. I don't even know what a R-series PS2 is...

5.   Any recommendations to buy any model, which is more stable and error free.
Don't get a Gen4. My brother and his friend both have a gen4 and they've both broken down in less than a year. They can't play any of the newer games anymore.

My Gen7 (SCPH-39001) seems to work great, but I only bought it shortly before Christmas, so it hasn't had time to generate any problems...

Hope this helps!

If you have those kind of problems with Windows, why not use Linux or something?

General Discussion / I need some help with ff7....

I use Daemon Tools myself...

62
A few times, those grid-lines show up because of anti-aliasing. Turning it off sometimes works.

63
Have you tried updating your drivers? That sometimes works. I also seem to remember some Rage compatability issues with FF7...

At the very least, try updating your video drivers and DirectX.

64
Another way to fix it, would be if your audio card has both a digital and analog input, connect one CD-Drive to the analog, and the other to the digital, and then just make sure they volume is up on both before you start playing.

65
I'm not sure if I have the latest version, but I remember that the last time I tried it, it wouldn't make the image an alpha when I tried to export the model. I had to export the images seperately for it to work.

66
ok... first of all, I had to create alpha maps for the eyes, or have Biturn make them for me. (I forget which, but I know I needed them.) After applying the color map info, copy that layer (top left of the surfaces panel) click "use  texture". Then click on the Transparancy "T" button, and Replace the Current layer. You should see the color image pop up on the right side where it shows a preview of the image. Change the image to the alphaed version of the image. Make sure that Pixel Blending and Texture Antialiasing are both OFF! (You may need to invert this layer, depending on the alpha image.)

That'll perfectly remove your images' pink border.

Lighting the back: Here's where things get interesting... The vector colors for the back are natually dark. There's no way to avoid this, without recoloring it by hand. However, you can add a light wiht a high intensity. In my quick test, 300% intensity really brought out the colors. (My models use 75% Luminocity, and 50% Diffuse. I find it works best, as you can have the vector colors, and lighting effects.)

As for the baking problem, go back to the vector colors, and when you bake the object, turn off everything but the color information. (Bake Color On, everything else off.) This will bake only the color information, and not the lighting information.

But you should only bake it if you're going to export it from Lightwave. Otherwise, just use the vector colors.

67
A "Vertex Map" is what Lightwave calls the collection of point color information on a model. It's not really a map. It's applied to a model, not (too much) unlike a regular map, but you can't (TIKO*) be exported as an image map.

Now that I think about it now, taking it to LW6.5/7, then creating a UV Map for the model, and "baking" the model with it's vertex colors on it would be one way to export the vertex colors as an image map. You'd just need a way to export LW's UV map info and import it into Max. (Otherwise, you'd have to manuall rebuild the UV map in Max.)

The problem is that the colors would be resolution dependant, and might loose quaility as you get closer to the model.

And Sorry, I can't teach you. I'm rather busy with school, and my webcomic. (I'm swamped with homework, and it's only the first week!!)

That reminds me... I need to work on my FF7 theater webcomic sometime soon...

Yay!!! I'm back!! No More IE for me!!

Found another image I did. This has my fully animatable Rufus model. Body parts converted with Biturn, but I seperated it all, so it's fully and easily animatable.

Mirex: Here's the only one I could find online. I'll see about making/posting more after I get tomorrow's S&D issue done.

http://www.sephiroth3d.com/stuff/battle-show-off.jpg

Giffen1: That sounds about as bad as the Lightwave importer for Maya...

The Dragon was orignally my "test subject" for Conv/Biturn. The one in the wallpaper was done with one of the first versions of Biturn. The characters, however, I completely modeled myself. I did have to put it together, and position it myself, though. Bones weren't supported yet when I did it.

As for those movie models, I've always heard they exisited, but I could never find a copy of them. They seemed to dissapear completely from the internet right around the time I started looking for them. Sucks, don't it?

71
Giffen1: I'm the exact opposite. I hate Max. I can work with it, no problem, but everything I have to do in there, I can do 50 times faster and better in LW. But that's just me. I'm sure you can say the same thing about Lightwave.

Unforunatly, Vertex info is new, being only in 6.0+ or 6.5+, so using anything older will not work when trying to get the vertex info into Max.

LW takes some time to get used to, but once it's in your blood, it becomes a part of you.

Here's some examples of my LW work:
http://www.sara-and-david.com

Here's some FF7 examples:
http://www.sephiroth3d.com

And I also have a few images posted around the board somewhere... Mirex, you really should use those images as examples of your prog or something...

I'd probably visit here more if the forums worked in Netscape... For the record... Something added to the site is what broke it for NS uses. I just installed the same version of phpbb on my site, and it works fine!

I think/thought that the music in FFX is among, if not, THE best FF music I've heard yet. Yes, there are a few songs from FF7 and FF6 that totally rock, but as a whole, I think FFX's music is superior.

Drowned out: Not at all. You can still clearly hear the music, despite the voice acting.

All in all, I thought what I played of it was really cool!

Now thatr I own a PS2, I need to break out my copy and start playig it again...

It looks like it's trying to send out headers with another php files, but it canin't since you can only send headers once. Try moving it before you add any HTML code.
