7th Heaven / Re: Reunion + 7th Heaven - The Final Answer
« on: 2022-10-17 06:15:11 »
If you're looking for a way to combine Mr. Burke's work with 7th Heaven, like me, then you've probably happened on this thread which states without equivocation that Mr. Burke has stated explicitly that his work is not to be combined with 7th Heaven in any way.

I'm a darn songwriter myself, so all of this computer lingo/jargon is utterly Greek to me. But, I will say this, that 7th Heaven's graphical mods (particularly those done by Nino to match Nomura's original concept art, and Cosmos FMV which converts the FMVs to properly-proportioned characters) are phenomenal, and if YOU MUST CHOOSE, then I recommend 7th Heaven, with SE's script. At the very least, you are getting the FF7 script that SE has put out, and you can feel confident that, warts and all, this is the FF7 script that SE has published.

Mr. Burke's scriptwork is fantastic, but I can't play with Lego People forever. SE's officially published script gets the message across well enough. Play 7th Heaven with NinoStyle field models and Cosmos FMV. It's even working in 60fps now with analog controls.

7th Heaven has proven itself the superior choice at this point, and it's my personal biased and slanted and skewed opinion that Mr. Burke ought to just swallow his pride and publish his quite excellent script for the open source community, unless his name happens to be Kazushige Nojima, in which case, whatever.

But if his name is not in fact Kazushige Nojima and Daniel Burke as he has said, then publish the damned script. Stubbornness never got anybody anything but bruised spirits.

Completely Unrelated / Why I don't like either of you
« on: 2021-02-19 18:09:08 »
I recently got my first physical in a very long time, last November. They said everything looked good, no thyroid problems, no kidney problems, heart looked good, but I have high cholesterol, and could expect my blood pressure to go up if I don't start eating better and lose a bit of weight.

Satsuki Yatoshi's v5 of FF7_SYW just came out and I happened to notice it on another website, came here, downloaded it, installed it, and it worked just fine, and it looks okay, and I didn't have to talk to anyone in this community or... another community that people might be familiar with.

It comes down to the bottom line; I have high cholesterol and may be in danger of developing heart disease the older I get. I don't know what kind of superhuman mutant powers other people might have for tolerating drama and stress, but I ain't got it. It just struck me as so refreshing for a mod to just work, simply, easily, efficiently, to where I don't have to wade into any forum/online community drama to ask about problems I'm having with it. So, aside from kudos to Satsuki, I have to say, this really draws to the forefront certain feelings I have about what's been going on, but in the interest of not making a meal out of it, I'm not going to comment further on specifics.

I don't care who said what to who or who's targeting who or who's a troll and who's not. I'm not interested. I wanna play FF7, and I've been playing it since it came out (I've been playing Final Fantasy since the NES version came out in fact). I don't want to have to slog through people's egos smashing against each other.

Just wanted to say it where people might read it; I might be more erudite and less afraid to say so, being a relative outsider. But I am willing to bet that a large number of people feel the same way. Food for thought.

Catalogs / Re: [FF7] Qhimm Catalog 3.0 Reports / Requests

I'd like to make a suggestion for 7th Heaven.

Can you include an entry in the My Mods List that rates the performance impact of enabling a mod? You could use a "Star Meter" like Materias have, in FF7, with mods being ranked from 1 star (negligible performance impact) to 5 stars (major performance impact), for those whose hardware might not be the most modern, and want to know how much strain a given mod is going to put on their system.

(folds up suggestion note, places in suggestion box, jumps on Harley, busts thru window, g's tfo)

Peace out

Completely Unrelated / Existential Dread when hung over
« on: 2020-06-20 03:52:39 »
Is it just me or does anyone else experience massive existential dread the entire day after drinking a lot the previous night?

Like, when I'm hung over, I feel this massive wave of depression and anxiety directed at nothing in particular, it's just sort of 'there' and I really can't deal with it any other way than waiting it out. I guess it's normal; alcohol is a depressant and highly poisonous to a human body, after all. I just wondered, does anyone have a routine they go through when they're hung over to generate some endorphins in their body, to try to get over, get past, or otherwise circumvent the hangover blues?

Or shitpost relentlessly I guess, that works too, I'm not expecting much tbh, I chose to get drunk and I'm paying the price lol

Anyway if you read that then idk, you have too much time on your hands or something lol.

... Get outta my HEAD lol

:D I don't think I was seriously suggesting that you make an edit to the guide, but upon reading your description of why it's written that way, I realize that I am presuming knowledge of how to navigate Windows (and also that there is only one way to do things - silly me). It didn't occur to me at the moment I wrote it, but of course, there are multiple ways to call up a file address in Windows. I didn't think of that.

I guess that's a very human trait, to use one's own knowledge of how something is done to describe it to someone else when making instructions, but you're right, instructions have to be written in whatever way is the simplest and most straightforward way to explain it to someone. What's that old saying about a little knowledge being a dangerous thing? Heh.

So, then, C:\Games\FF7 can also be read, "wherever it is that Final Fantasy VII is installed," so long as I know where said address is on my computer setup. Is that right?

edit:
I figured out the mistake I was making.

From the guide:

Because of the way the opening half of these two parts of Step 6 were worded, my mind skipped over the 2nd part of it. One says "locate" and the other says "navigate to." It was my fault, I didn't realize you were asking me to rename two of these files (whose filenames are identical) in separate locations.

I'd have made "navigate to [directory]" its own bullet point, there, and then another bullet point that is identical to the previous one "locate the file [filename]" but I get not wanting to be pedantic about things. Sorry, chief.

Ciaobuongiorno. I was wondering, your guide says to install to C:\7th Heaven\ and also, from this very thread, it seems that it looks for FF7's installation in C:\Games\FINAL FANTASY VII\FF7.exe.

I have Steam installed on an external usb Solid State Drive. Is that going to make it incompatible with this installation process? Your guide seems to skip over this part, unless I'm just not reading it carefully enough. Or do I simply direct it to my installation folder, regardless of which drive it's on? Will it be ok to install 7th Heaven on a drive other than my primary HDD (C:\)? Does this work, or should I install it on the primary HDD?

General Discussion / Re: FFVIII Remastered

I'm not going to pin labels on anyone's point of view. You don't think what SE has done is worth $20, you don't think what SE has done is worth $20. Fair enough.

I think it's worth $20. Sure, no prob. I liked this game the first time they released it, I'll like it now.

I do think that if you currently have the 1998 PC game in your Steam Library that you should get something that a person newly buying it doesn't, but I am not the decision maker for SE marketing and boy HOWDY do I not want that job.

Reading is too much work apparently.

As is being polite, apparently.

May I have the filepath please? There are lots of folders on my computer called 'temp.'

Thanks for reading.

7th Heaven / Re: FF7 GameConverter stuck patching
« on: 2019-05-30 08:06:52 »
This is very frustrating. Nothing I am doing is working at all.

I've deleted the registry keys, over and over, and reinstalled the game over and over. It has been two days.

Is there any way to fix this? Why won't it get past "Patching..."? Are there answers to this question?

I'm trying to install Remako right now, and having this same issue, again.

I don't know if it means anything to anyone, but only one find.exe file was found on my drive, in the windows\system32 folder. However, I saw Rakheesh's post about compatibility settings, so I ran the compatibility troubleshooter (yeah I know, I'm getting pretty desperate here).

It spat back at me to run it with compatibility settings for Windows Vista Service Pack 2. So that's what I'll try next.

Well I guess my track can be a stopgap until Revision 6 is out. Gosh, I didn't know you were gonna add to this.

I feel like I'm looking at one of my late mom's paintings, and saying 'wow Mom it looks done' and she's saying 'Oh this is nowhere near done' and I'm all WHAAAAA

14
I've already fixed that track in The Reunion - but I also fixed the scene there too.

But I'm playing it with Reunion. I got to that scene and it wasn't fixed, tho. :| Did I not install the latest version or something?

Uhm. I found a way around the problem of the Mideel Flashback Redux of the Overworld Theme not playing correctly.

This took me all night.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zkncn6i0n0wymnc/tb.zip?dl=0

Once I had installed your ogg mod, it was a simple matter of editing the track in audacity, and then just dropping the file in the music_ogg folder in what I'm only gonna guess is gonna be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\data\music_ogg (that's the file path on my computer anyway), and hitting "Replace The File In The Destination." It is actually not the overworld map theme, it's its own dedicated track. Kind of surprised it worked.

Now, this plays correctly in that scene, more or less. It's probably never going to be 1:1 with the PSX Version, but this is what I'm gonna use from now on.

Made an account to say thank you.

... Also sort of to express my condolences on how batcrap crazy this fanbase is. It's pant-soilingly stupid to me that you have to defend your retranslation with polemics the way you do.

Cheers. "There's no getting off this train we're on..."
