The link is dead, and couldn't find it on NexusMods on it's own.

2
It's been years, but, can I request a reupload of the offline version?

3
Is it the Installshield issue only? 'Cause it's possible to bypass it one way or another. Does the game itself run?

General Discussion / Looking for some files
« on: 2014-09-28 13:39:04 »
Hi, everyone. While roaming the forums I came across a bunch of dead links.
Eventually, I found working links for most of them, but these 3 files are still out of reach for me. Could you upload these, please?

Code: [Select]
FF7:
lgp_tools_multipack_by_sithlord48-1_0.zip
LGP Frontend v1.2.rar

FF8:
Cactuar 0.5a

Also, if there are new versions or other programs with better functionality, please tell me so

yes it extracts/copy and edits registry keys but it also makes the mods work together.

Sounds a bit more complex than I thought, but achievable. But since I don't know when I'll be free, I would vote for GitHub.

I never worked with INNO. Take note that the GUI part is not even 10% of Bootleg.
Yes, but as far as I imagine, it can't go further than archive extracting, copying, registry keys, right?

As for the rewriting, that's been a to-do since forever, but neither PitBrat or myself are good enough to do anything other than in batch (and now that PitBrat can no longer work on it, it got worse).
Well I have INNO scripting skills (which is basically Pascal), but I'm also busy with other projects at the moment. I can make a demo GUI in INNO (Or maybe Delphi, if Freearc is completely vetoed) when I'm free and send send it to you to see if you like it...

1) Rewrite the whole Bootleg in INNO Setup (Or any other programmable environment).
2) Make use of FreeArc (INNO Setup Script already available, but can be easily implemented into virtually anything), to save more space.

Example of magochocobo_ff7pack3.rar: This file actually has the same folder packed twice, which is again a waste of space

Original Size:    415 MB
Packed with FreeArc: 186 MB
Proof

P.S. Without the duplicate folder it would've been ~100 MB less

I also experimented with Upscaled Magic  files (data.7z.001 - data.7z.006 ), since it also has a moderate filesize. The results aren't as good as the one mention above, because 7z is already quite strong compression.

Size of 6 files together: 545 MB
Packed with FreeArc: 539 MB
Proof

I think FreeArc would be good for those big rar/zip files.

1) What FMV and Soundtrack enhancements do I need?

You don't necessarily need any, but Rumbah for FMV and Anxious Heart or FinalFantasyTim for soundtracks are my recommendations.
Well, there is no option for no Soundtrack replacement... Actually even if I select nothing at all in all tags, mod listing still looks for ff7music and remix....

A complete Bootleg install needs around 35GB to install, including temporary installation space as well as the mods. A final, complete install is around 9GB. A minimal install should be somewhere around 4GB. Temporary space is around 8GB (I'm not sure about the exact size, but I believe that's around this. It could range anywhere from 4 to 12), because all the files are extracted before being installed.
OK then, it'll take me about a week or so to free up some space. Then I'll give it a try.

I've never done that before, so you'll be testing it for us. When you run the install process, you'll see text in the command box that will indicate what's going on. There is also an install log at the end to check. Let us know your results.
My pleasure, but it would be easier if I actually knew what exactly is being used from the remix installer... Also, the log would be in my FFVII dir, right?

This was my biggest frustration when I started. I will say this first. If you don't have the freedom of space you'll run into a lot of problems. I started out with trial and error until I got the game exactly to how I wanted. The problem with that is I ended up using around 20 GB. I've since then organized and got rid of what I wasn't using which lowered the hard drive consumption. You could consider a small external hard drive. They can be quite cheap.

So it's REQUIRED to have them all? Another thing I forgot to mention is that the only files I didn't download were the FMV and music files, since I don't know which are better than what I already have. Thanks anyway.

1) Screenshots for all features

2) Materias pop-up in "Models" tab shows the same as Potions

3) Shred Final_Fantasy_VII_Remix_v2-5-1_Installer.exe and use only required files

4) Get rid of duplicates (Orange colored files). Make them more "unified".

First of all, being a member of another gaming community, I understand how frustrating it is when newbies come around asking stupid questions, so I solemnly apologize if any of my questions sound stupid! Also I have never played FFVII before (When I first got it back in 2000, it totally scared me away, the models had no hands, there were different models on field and in battle...), so please make your comments as spoilerless as possible.

I have the Steam Release v1.0.9 (the one with "reworked" music). So, I'm a bit confused as of what should I install.
First of all I decided to download only those files that I need, since 16 GB is something I can't afford, considering I placed the bootleg itself on my USB Flash.

1) What FMV and Soundtrack enhancements do I need?

2) What Should I never install (e.g. Any CD Loader, or something else that could be incompatible with Re-release data files)

3) I'm going to use FF7 Game Converter v0.11 by Kompass63, will I need to install the "Keyboard Patch" if I don't want to play with the numpad?

4) Do I need "New SoundFX"?

5) In order to save space I deleted all the movies and music in Final_Fantasy_VII_Remix_v2-5-1_Installer.exe (end size: 472 MB). Will the bootleg recognize/use it correctly?

6) Bootleg let's me replace the models (Finally!). But the model I like is available only as a field model (or vice versa). Can I have the same model both in game and in battle?

3) Why didn't Square-Enix recompile the game/re-port the game?
Looking at what Square-Enix has done to make the game runnable on newer systems, it almost directly mirrors how we do it. It would appear that they either have lost the original source code, or it's in such a state of atrophy, that it worthless to port.
So they don't like "piracy" but they took cues from this forum??

4) What's up with the joypad controller support?
You are buying a game that was released in 1998. The only real controllers that were used for PC back then were a joysticks. WASD and mouselook were new technologies, and not even all FPSs had that!
hm... Which makes me think is a mouse-look mod possible?

5) The graphics look like crap!
Yes, the original 3D background art was lost, and the 1998 port team had to use the low resolution PSX graphics. We have some mods to help with that.
How hard would it have been for Square Enix to re-render those?
Also, let's say, I want to start a project of rerendering those backdrops. Would that be illegal?
