On top of changing your button assignments, you might also want to flip the up/down axis, to make it work more like a real targeting interface.  I can't tell you how many times I keep pointing in the wrong direction because I'm used to that style in shooters.

I used a Gravis GamePad Pro for all my games for a while (it is a duplicate of the PSX controller), but I'm thinking about getting a new one now.

Same here using the Gravis Gamepad pro...has the feel of a PSX controller though I find it a little slow...(maybe coz its nt USB?)

I dunno.  Mine was USB and I never really had any problems with it.
