k, so i got my original discs from my brother and did the maximum install.  it works fine until you select "new game" and it goes to a black screen but never does anything.
i installed the 1.02 and Aali's, but to no avail (also, i'm a little hazy about what to do in the .cfg file ).  part of me just wants to do a windows 95 partition and get it over with.  okay, not really, but this is frustrating.  anybody have any ideas?

Did you install the true motion video codec?
you can download it here: http://www.downloadatoz.com/codecs/truemotion,download.html

That codec should not be necessary when using Aali's driver.

It's possible that your opening video file is damaged.

if you're using Aali's driver, rip the original opening.avi off disc and use that.

If not, then you should get Aali's driver.

You'll have to copy all of the movies from all the discs to a folder in your hd. "Example is D:\Movies". After doing so copy the new videos and put or replace the old movies with the new ones. If you want to change the opening movie just change opening.avi to the new one with the same name. And then go to the registry and search for the folder for Squaresoft ff7. Change the values of moviepath to the new place of your movies and in my example it is D:\Movies\. Remember to always put the "\" in the last for it will not work without it.

my registry entry was in a weird place, that's probably windows 7's doing, but so far everything seems to be working fine now, thanks!
