Title: [FF7] Game exe Converter (Discontinued, use Menu Overhaul)

The Touphscript formatted text for ff7.exe is already available in German and Spanish.

There may also be a problem entering the key configuration screen.
Someone reported that, when using the English .exe on the German game, there was a crash when entering the key configuration menu.

Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-08-13 02:12:56
Does this crash exist on the other games?

OK, so I think I have it all ready now.  With Pitbrat's help and ff7.text files, I should have spanish, french and german up in no time.  Italian does not work with ts so I hear so this may take longer to decode their exe translation. Then again that is a project unto itself and doesn't it use spanish 1.03?  Which would be compatible with my mods anyway.

So next, installer.

I need someone to translate the English.  I have used google translate for now.  Much obliged if people would clear this up.  I will also need someone to translate the readme into these languages too.  The installer is 95% done, just need Luksy's input now with touphscript, and the french/italian ff7 exe text.

My german isn't what it used to be ( and I'm german native, oh the irony ) but here we go
I modified it a little to be more 'formal' and informative. Because I automatically assume most germans have NFI what they are doing with a PC.

Cheers.

Now Pitbrat, I need your input.  I don't understand what is going on here.

The German ff7.txt file for example.
Some of the texts go way outside of what is permitted space wise.  Is this because the german 1.02 has extra space?  Or because someone has made these ff7.txt files manually?  How has touphscript decoded soemthing it doesnt support?

I need German, French, Italian and Spanish exes (spanish 1.02)

edit:  this german one doesnt conform to the original german 1.02 exe text that is for sure.  And these text files simply cannot ever work.... some of the text is way too long.  Who has done this? touphscript will just chop off words when they go over.  Surely whoever made these realised that?

edit:

I need to speak with the person who did these...  For sure.

That's for pitbrat when he returns.  I need to know who made these ff7 text files... and I need people who want their language supported to run through their exe text and verify it line for line.
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter

Those translations are courtesy of Ugerstl.
He probably did the German translation of ff7.exe.
Google translate often produces whacky results.
Any sentient input is appreciated!
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-08-15 00:33:58
The Spanish one may be ok (although the items for chocobo races are untouched?).  The german one needs a look at by someone.  At the moment it just isn't going to work, not least because the text is too long for some lines (see ts log) and also the name input screen tries to use german letters (and is probably all messed up).

I will not update the exes until someone competent in each language has done what I need.  So if people want their game converting they are going to have to do some work to help us.  I also need the original 1.02 for French, Spanish (Spanish 1.02 and 1.03), Italian and German.

;D  If you ever get the time, I have a german file here, all the exe text.  I'd appreciate it if someone could run through the text.  But if you cant be arsed I understand. Ideally people who whinge about not having foreign support should be helping.

Game converter will support foreign games when someone who cares enough and understands the language they want to convert, helps me with the ff7 text.  Until then the converter will be released as is, and although it will convert the game, the text in ff7.exe will not be translated.  So far Spanish will be, but that is all.

My game is an old clean version, without any mod yet.

That isn't a problem at all.  What you need to do is convert all the English entries line by line to the french equivalents. Some of these may prove difficult.  You should do as much as you can.  You will probably need the game open as well.

Download this file >
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36889302/FF7/0_ff7.exe.txt

and get cracking.  You may also need to look at this, as it will help you with the various areas the text appears in:
http://goo.gl/0qk11
See the blue text titles on the right side.  It will show you where to look.

Do not make a mistake with the lines.  Do not delete lines or accidentally move them. Make sure the text corresponds exactly to the French equivalent.  Try not to make ANY typo's or mistakes.  Check through each entry 4 times from beginning to end when you have finished.

The above information applies to people who want the German game as well.  Spanish and Italian may already be done.

Is there a way to get the text out of the German exe file? Ordering them should no problem.

I do own the German version and I'm a native speaker but I do not have savegames left that are far into the game so it's hard to get to alle the places in game for me.
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-08-21 23:42:04
The only thing you can do is open the exe with a hex editor (I use hex editor neo) and look for the text.  Small letters become large.  For example, when searching for Cloud you would look for LOUD (miss the first letter).  You can also play the game for a lot of them.

If you are willing to do this for the entire exe and place the text properly (download the file above), let me know.

sorry for the disturbance

I will check it.  Place it back here.

You have to make sure the actual german 1.02 text is placed on the correct line corresponding to the English 1.02 text from the file I uploaded.  It has to be EXACT to the german 1.02 text.  Not your own choices in otherwords.

If you have done that, then upload the file.

No.  The rest of the document is 100% rightDo not alter it.   Stick to it exactly. Or there will be issues.

The dialogue above was a mistake by the original designers (there really is a Chocobo named K because of it).   At the end you can name the chocobo's to German names if you wish.  For now I need it exact to the German game.

I believe that are abbreviations that are found in a store.

In what store that is used?

In store yes A and D are used.  1 letter each.  It is a certain menu.

use the first letter for the german for attack and defence.

Ideally you should be playing the game... and checking these too.

Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-08-22 22:06:50
I am doing the converting.  All you are doing is replacing the english in the 0_ff7.txt file with german.  That's all.

Are you going through it line by line and updating it EXACT to how the german is in the german game?  You will either need game open OR a hex editor to do it.   The A and D for example are Attack Defend.

Without hex knowledge and the game open, your chances of being able to do this properly are slim to none.,

Upload what you have done so far and I will check.

Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: Rumbah on 2012-08-22 22:25:21
Well, I do know how to use a HEX Editor and I do own a German FF7 PC and I understand what you want so I'll take a look into it if I have time.
But I cannot make any promise that I will finish it in any given time frame or at all.

So I'm probably not the right person to plan with to get a result soon. Yes, I'd like to see it but I cannot promise I'll find the motivation for it. Sorry.

The hex editor is not the problem.
Problems cause me such terms such as
KANA
YEN
NUMPADEQUALS
AT
KANJI
AX
These terms are also available in German FF7.exe, but where are they used? How should I translate that?

OK here's what I've done.
Rumbah, Please read and correct that.
I pray that everything is correct :-\

KANA:
YEN :
NUMPADEQUALS
AT
KANJI
AX

A lot of these are not ever really seen... Kanji and Yen are japanese terms anyway.

Numpadequals is the equals sign on your comp in numpad area.  What do you call number pad and what do you call "equals"

This character =

This is for setting the key configuration.

If you use hex editor, and my excel document you should be able to locate the german area for the same names and see what they called it.

Check german exe at 00591A70

Looks to me like a lot stayed English named anyway, so for now set them to the exact ones here.

This adds a column, everything is properly displayed and can be selected
Chocobos can also be named with special characters, the chocobo race they are displayed correctly.

Cool!  8) And it doesn't look so bad, either!

So do I still need touphscript's 0_ff7.exe.txt file for the actual font values or is the above sequence of bytes for that as well?

I can easily add this to the installer if so :)

Hi DLPB

Please do not use for now my texts with touphscript
I have some problems with touphscript and must first send a message to luksy.
The texts are all unusable.
I thank you for your patience, I will not give up.

Inserting of another column should work after touphscript translated exe properly.

The texts will need some chopping down, I know that already.  Also make sure that 0_ff7.exe.txt is saved in utf8 format.

You can translate it in Italian?.
As with the new version outlet of playstation store have adapted the patch I can not play in Italian.
Maybe if I convert it possible? When and where to change the language?

This project isn't a translation, it converts only the files and exe.  You  need a full translation like that one to play in Italian.

DLPB,

Shouldn't it be possible to use this for converting, let's say an Italian version, into English, mod appropriately, and then apply the Translate Text option in Bootleg to go back to Italian?

I am not sure.  I am sure of one thing, you will need the italian original files.  This converter will only convert ff7.exe and rename the other files to work.

Hi DLPB

I now have a 0_ff7.exe.txt that can be used with touphScript.
But I'm not happy with it.

Original German

How can I get messages to each other instead of side by side?
How can I customize the window?
How can I manipulate the cursor?
And how can I expand the entry "Verk" to "Verkaufen", although there is no place in the EXE at this point?

And I have found more places where the game does not look good ...

I gave you packed everything. See the pictures.

That's a problem.  I can fix the box with hex edits, which is fairly simple.

For now, make sure all of the dialogue is correct (including any text you have had to minimise due to space differences) and then send me the 1.02 txt file.

As for the text... well that can't be expanded without more messing about.  We are stuck with using shorthand in places, like that one there.

I'll have a look tomorrow...

we have a problem with text length.  We may be forced to use shorthand versions there.

What tools did you use for MO?
I'm thinking about implementing MO for the German version.

I am now using my own tool the hext dll, see DLPB tools thread to edit memory at run time via text files.  I also use ts and my own installer for ff7 text.  I used cheat engine to look and edit memory.

It is a lot of manual work.  However, if this converter works, a massive amount of the work will already be done and I will add a german option to the MO installer.

But I'm willing to learn, it will probably take a long time.

Hi! Thanks to your suggestion, I've discovered this thread  :)

DPLB, may I help too? Do you need the italian ff7.exe? Tell to me! If there is something to traslate, there should be no problem!

For starter, there is the disclaimer text corrected:

My attention is in this priority:

1.  Finish my editing tools.
2. Translation project text in ff7.exe
3. Game Converter.
4. Submarine minigame change
5. Translation Project update
6. Menu Overhaul M06 release.
7. UMI next release.
-------------

Anybody wishing to help should look t my older post that documents what you need to do.
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13419.msg187618#msg187618

Note:I can only support game converter with Menu Overhaul placed on top by default.  It is way way too much work to start converting to normal game then convert extra Menu Overhaul.  I will leave this thread here to discuss this 1 issue but all these fixes will be added to Menu Overhaul (probably version M07) with language option.

Hi DLPB !
I searched back and found this I quoted here.
If I understand well, for a future french translation in MenuOverhaul( is it ? Or for the converter Cause I'm not understanding all ), all I have to do is taking the '0_ff7.exe.txt', who contains all the texts that are presents in the ff7_1.02.exe, and giving to you a new '0_ff7.exe.txt', containing the equivalent word, line by line, but in french at the place of english. is it ?

If that could give you the opportunity of a french translation( for my example ), I would be very happy to translate that lines for the community.
Thanks letting me informed.

You need to change the english to French on same lines and make sure they are identical to the original French game then upload for me.

Hi ManuBBXX

As I understand it, the project is a (eg) GERMAN version of FF7 be made to run with the English FF7.exe from the 1.02 patch.
All you need is some rename files (eg Gflevel.lgp into flevel.lgp, high-ge.lgp in high-us.lgp) and replace the existing FF7.exe by the us version.
Since in the FF7.exe also text exists, it must be replaced with (eg) German text.
For this would DLPB use the tool "touphScript".

All this would serve to e.g. MenuOverhaul to fully utilize in other languages.

Unfortunately, the whole thing has a few minor bugs.
In the U.S. FF7.exe is at several places simply not enough space for the right (eg) German words and phrases.
I made some pictures, you are allowed to watch.

http://www.file-upload.net/download-4746116/Game-Converter-DLPB.zip.html

There may also be a problem entering the key configuration screen.
Someone reported that, when using the English .exe on the German game, there was a crash when entering the key configuration menu.

That I can not confirm!
For me, the English exe works.

Actually I am not using ts for ff7.exe anymore but I do need that text file OR a 1.02 exe with all the text updated.  Preferably the latter.

I have created a tool to extract the relevant bytes and create a file ready for use with my dll.
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: ManuBBXX on 2012-09-16 00:49:55
Okay, great. I do the french translation for each line, with a french ff7 opened, for verifying, and then upload to you the .txt file when finished.
I hope I'm not the only french guy here and so that will be usefull !  :)

PS : A ff7_fr.exe can help you ? I mean if you extract the text from a such fr exe, do you have as a result the right lines translated ? Or I have to traduce each ?
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-09-16 00:53:24
It has to be EXACT to the French version.  Do not make up your own translation.  If people want to do that afterwards they can do.  But I won't support it.  My dll will.

Hi DLPB

I am now a bit confused.
Some German texts definitely not fit into the English exe, unless you can move some words.
The text in my last link works with ts
The proposed changes make it a little better.
As long as I do not know how I can make some places more space, I can not do better.
Some German words are now times much longer than the English.

Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter

I will edit the boxes and so forth to fit.  This will be done by editing the game.  The final version will work only with menu Overhaul.  It won't work properly with original font and boxes.

I cannot increase length of text.  There is nothing we can do there.  The text limit is there to stay.
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: Kompass63 on 2012-09-16 02:11:25
Actually, in some places have enough space.
One must move only one or two words.

Send me a finalised 1.02 german translated exe.  I have now completed the tool.  The tool I have made will pull out all the text parts in pure hex ready for memory editing with the dll.

I need your exe now, not the text file:)  Make sure it is 100% correct and ready for me.

If you want my English exe manipulated with German text, which I have yet to test.
I definitely want to insert the word "Schlüsselobjekte" between "Ordnen" and "Allein" (see above
).
How can I do that?
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-09-16 03:58:42
If it fits in exe and works in game, it is cool.  if it doesn't work in the game, it isn't.
If there isn't space in exe, then there is nothing you can do.
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: Kompass63 on 2012-09-16 04:20:25
It must exist somewhere pointer, marking the beginning of the word!
Just move forward is not enough.
Where is the pointer, how can I find this?
Title: Re: [WIP] Game Converter
Post by: DLPB_ on 2012-09-16 04:29:27
All 3 words are on 1 line.  You can only start the 3 words from the correct place.  The pointer is assembly code and I have not looked for it.  You will have to leave it for now. What is important is getting the current text working. We can look at other things afterwards.  Try to use different words if possible to get round the space limitation.

Having the pointer won't help you anyway, youd need to point to new code area and then we have issues.  Leave it to me at a later time.

DLPB, I've read your post, where you can download the txt and spreadsheet and explain what to do.

May ask a thing? You wrote " Spanish and Italian may already be done.". You need the txt file traslated?

If so, I'll extract the phrases with Ts and, checking them, I'll place them in the txt file. Just give me the greenlight :)
