in case someone missed this lengthy writeup on the topic : http://www.fortressofdoors.com/doing-an-hd-remake-the-right-way/

can't really figure out which controller it would be. my guess is it's something resembling n64 controller probably or smaller version of ds1.

there are alternative one handed controllers nowadays, e.g. asciigrip ; http://www.oneswitch.org.uk/1/AGS/AGS-onehand.htm  ;

it actually looks pretty promising : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwmK2xsmTHk

They complain that no game since 7 has exceeded the amount of sales thus wont release a new one till they do but what they don't realize is if they re-released 7 in a HD PS3 new gen graphics which they are easily capable of doing they will make maybe triple the amount of the best selling game they have EVER made. Maybe even any game ever made . . .by anyone? I have to say call of duty for example mustn't be that far behind now but this sorta game would blow any opposition way off the scale.

Anyone understand this??
What i understand is

- they would have to remake ALL the assets from scratch to give game a decent hd presentation. that is not so easy, especially since pc team could not do it - they did not have source material to redo it back then. they might have a few character models redone a few times already, but the locations, backgrounds, animations, fmv's, enemy models - everything from scratch.
- there are some things they would rather leave out (cross dressing and whole don corneo thing in general)
- remakes usually get lukewarm reception, a lot of people would prefer things as they used to be.
- they would not prevent themselves from making 'improvements' to the game (and change e.g. the nibelheim scene again)
- they would most likely attempt to tie ff7 with other ff7-related games.

in the end - that would be game not worth getting.

I mean, that's a joke right?

And the problem isn't with the "sacrifice" theme, it's with the fact that no matter what you do the mass relays are completely destroyed, your crew f*ck off and leave you (and seriously, 2 of them are supposed to be dead but can still pop off the Normandy unscathed)

i think i can understand this ending in one way - you have to accept that there are often things beyond your control. it's not the first game that does this, nor the last one. and fans simply cannot accept it.

i would love it if bioware would not budge from their position on that. too bad you cannot simply kill yourself and not pick any of the three choices. now that would be fun.

so that galactic armada you spent 3 games buttering up? Stuck in the sol system till they starve to death.
bluntly put - they did their part. why bother with them anymore?

i would rather nitpick on the numerous flaws and glitches in the game - you see them much more often than the ending, after all.

General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on FFX for psp vita
« on: 2012-02-07 08:37:10 »
I'm almost positive they will add trophy support. I'm shocked people thought it would be a full remake. When has anyone ever fully remade a PS2 game?
i don't ever recall there being a remake of ps3 game.

only remakes i can think of are a couple ps1 games, and most of the time they did not turn out to be so great.

- silent hill -> silent hill shattered memories (just, wtf)
- metal gear solid -> mgs twin snakes (matrix cutscenes, wtf)
- tomb raider 1 -> tomb raider anniversary ( that one is actually a good example, this is the kind of remake any game deserves to have )

otherwise it's mostly a port of game to new hardware with slightly improved graphics (check out metal gear hd collection; better textures and smoother fps, similarily ICO and SoTC, god of war, etc).

What would be the point when graphically it's not that bad to begin with?
also, vita doesn't really have a huge display. there is even no need to replace textures with higher quality ones, unless it can be plugged into HD tv set.

It's still a day 1 buy for me, considering this was what I was expecting. I've been dying to replay FFX for ages and my PS2 is lying in a box somewhere.
the reason i'll ever get a vita will be wipeout (it was the same with psp). that and the moment the hype dies down and price of the device drops down to sane levels.

i don't think i'll ever feel like playing ffx again, especially since i got my hands on ff12. it makes older FF's look so mundane.

nobody mentioned resonance of fate yet? impossibru!

resonance of fate - tri-ace. rpg. over-the-top gunfights, getting more and more acrobatic as you level up. battles get repetitive with time, but i love it.
vanquish - an sci-fi action game. made by the same studio that did bayonetta. don't expect a rich plot, but the gameplay is great. short and not much of a replay value.

Borderlands (Don't see what the fuss is about. Find it difficult to get into.)
it's difficult until you find a decent gun (which can take a while). then it becomes more approachable. kinda boring game for single player, but i like it for its general mood, and presentation.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I haven't really played it yet.
you should, but turn down the volume on voice acting of some characters. ps3 version has an option of switching between eng/jap voice overs, but it's some characters are painful to hear in both. it's much more approachable game than star ocean 3 (no more 0MP = KO idiocy)

MGS4 is fun game because it is very varied and you can do tons of things in there. what absolutely kills it is the ability to turn auto aim on, which makes it ridiculously easy (except for bosses). it's the only game that i really got absolutely hooked to and finished it in two days as a result.

wipeout hd + fury - for wipeout racing series maniacs mostly. fast-paced futuristic racing with awesome dnb sountrack.

Lol, I don't understand why nobody just punched her in the face. Hard. Then someone should take that child of hers and hand it over to childsupport or something. This is ridiculous.
the black guy behind her was pretty close to doing it, as he heard the n-word.

i suppose a black guy could have beaten her up and blame it on her racist behavior and most likely get away with it. and yet - somehow people managed to keep their cool. i'm damn impressed this didn't turn violent.

it would appear there are way more of these, published on different accounts.

nice rock i've been living under, i must say.

i really think you should go to xentax forums with this. more likely to find someone with the know-how

This modern "emo" movement is just another washed up, kashed out, piece of sh*t, that stems from no legitimate philosophy, ideal or scientific system and means absolutely nothing. These people just like to get f*cked up and dance. I have nothing against gay people, what I hate is uneducated moronic behavior.
the description pretty much covers entire pop/mainstream music.

Is your character on you?
what?

interesting question, i'd say

i thought of Death from Discworld, it got it right on the retry as a generic Grim Reaper.

i'd say close enough.

also, failed on fictional character of Chen Zhen. after 4 retries - "i think of nothing" ^_^

I finally finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on Master Ninja difficulty, only to have it freeze at the end of the game.

So f*cking pissed.
if you did it once, another attempt should be a bit easier.

i got pissed recently at rogue galaxy. at the end of the game you have to beat ~10 bosses in a row, with no saving/retry.

and i died at second-last fight :/

No, the PS2 did not emulate the PS1, it had native hardware support for it.
i think ps1's graphics chip was probably emulated.

Nintendo has pulled the release of Dead or Alive: Dimensions in the Scandinavian countries thanks to fears that it may fall foul of Swedish CP laws. A Swedish gamer, noticing that a feature allowing the player to ogle girls under the age of eighteen in bikinis might fall foul of Swedish CP laws that outlaw the depiction of under-18s (in Sweden, the Age of Consent is fifteen) in any situation that a jury decides might be sexual, reported the game to the police. In the ensuing chaos, Nintendo told Sweden and even it neighbours, Norway and Denmark, to GTFO. The worrying thing is that the game really could be considered dangerous CP in Sweden and many other Western countries according to their CP laws.

* yoshi314 crosses fingers, hoping to see Dead or Alive: hot swedish blondes edition.

A) The PS2 can play PS1 games, leading to b), he points out a specific version that now has proper (but limited) support for PS1 games where previous versions didn't.

ps2 can play ps1 games, but that doesn't mean pcsx2 has support for it.

pcsx2 runs real ps2 bios, which has built in ps1 emulator. but that means that you are running ps1 emulator inside ps2 emulator. and that makes the emulation all the more dodgy, especially since ps1 compatibility of ps2 was not so great in the first place.

there is an emulator called pcsxr which is based off pcsx, and developed on a nearly daily basis. ( http://pcsxr.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/changesets ) . it might work for you, i think it also has netplay.

S-E should get their act together and focus on a few core games, instead of spreading their resources on multiple projects.

when SE gets really desperate for money, they will put out something related to ff7, that's for sure.

i think my reflex in games is not as good as it used to be.

on the other hand, i tend to analyze the "flow" of the gameplay in some games, and i tend to get familiar with game's system more quickly nowadays.

or maybe the games are just getting more and more dumb. which is more likely ;)

looking back, i feel that old games were much harder and unforgiving. no saves, often no continues, often incredible difficulty.

getting back on topic, i wonder how exactly do game publishing studios feel about this.

after all, some of them are definitely experiencing losses.
