Roses and Wine
For Final Fantasy VIII

Download W06 Final
If you like this mod, donate HERE

This is the sister project to Anxious Heart.  Roses and Wine supports all languages and releases of Final Fantasy VIII (PC version).

Make sure that you have admin rights before using the installer. In later revisions of Windows, you must use "Run as Admin". It is also recommended that you disable anti-virus software before using the installer.

Problem: Midi files are not a faithful representation of the original game music.

Solution: I have created looping music files from the uncompressed official OST. To make these files a trade-off between quality and size, I have created files with a target bitrate of 192 in OGG Vorbis format. The OST has superior audio quality to PSF and the original game. It is identical to the original Playstation audio, except that it is higher quality.

This sounds rather heavenly, actually. Would something of  this nature be possible for FF7 as well? Running music through a .dll instead of FF7 Music? Other than that, this will only enhance the FF8 PC game experience. :3.

Yes it is possible, in fact the programming I have used is flexible for most games.

However, ff7 dll is not needed because aali has added ogg support to ff7 already and I have created the oggs for use with it ;)

I am assuming these dll files are only working through aali's driver? And I'll follow this project and see where you take it :D. Can't wait to see ^^.

No a dll can work with any program if it is programmed to do so.  It can be injected via my loader program in tools. (or at least will be in dlpb tools thread soon enough).

1. Make code more stable.
2. Make sure no bugs
3. Program in the concert part of the game
4. Program Game Over music to work.
5. Make all musics looping ogg from official OST.

I will have a nice test for you all in around 12-24 hours.

You only need one of them. You can convert the other one.

I may have it. I'll check. And AFAIK each instrument doesn't start at the same point. I don't know exactly what you want/need. Just PM me.

Started work on converting the OST to ogg.  The Landing was annoying because the no intro version has a solid drum beat at start with no interference from the music that went before.  I had to chop half a second or so of PSX music from inside the game and paste it in place of the start of The Landing OST version.

You can't tell ;)

6 of  76 are done (the hardest ones).  I have also recorded all the separate instruments for the concert awaiting possible programming into the game.

A quick test.  Download HERE.
This will be removed in 24 hours.

How to use:

1.  Rename Dmusic in Data\Music to dmusic2 so that midi are not played.
Or disable midi playback in soundcard.

2.  Place the 3 OGG's in a new folder called OGG in the data folder.

3.  Place RaW.dll and Bass.dll in the game root (where ff8.exe is)

4. Add the line

Load_Library="RaW"

to Aali's driver config file ff8_opengl.cfg

5.  Open game.

The World Map, victory music and battle music should all work and loop properly.

If anything at all strange happens.  Let me know.
Also note, a small beep will probably be heard at the beginning of game, this
is normal and tells you the DLL has been loaded.

Just a note on above...

You have to be using the English ff8 exe.

In time I can program this to work with them all.

W01 is Here

Torrent is here

As ever, read the readme on the installer's license page.

Code: [Select]

HISTORY

W01 09.Oct.2012
First release.

OTHER

The OST did not include a number of musics.
These are:

Starting Up (Looped)
Don't Be Afraid (X-ATM092)
The Landing (No Intro)
The Landing (Alternate, unused)

I corrected the above as follows:

Starting up (Looped) converted entriely from PSF.
The intro only of Don't Be Afraid (X-ATM092) from PSF.
The first drum beat of The Landing (No intro) from PSF.
The Landing (Alternate version) converted entirely from PSF.

The Landing (Alternate) is given as an option;
it did not appear in the original game.

The following music was not added:

Eyes On Me (Present on disc in CDA format)
Liberi Fatali (Comes with the FMV)
Ending Theme (Comes with the FMV)

Thanks also to VGR for some basic info on pc version :)

On an unrelated note:
FITHOS LUSEC WECOS VINOSEC is an anagram of
"Love" and "SUCCESSION OF WITCHES"

If someone could place the installer as a torrent somewhere also, I would be pleased.

Also note, despite readme saying this installer comes with other music including alternate Landing, it currently does not.  These will be released for W02.

Finally, this installer will have no trouble on netbook computers. I will update all the installers to work properly soon.

Annoying song :P  I will pretend I did not hear that!

Thanks for the torrent, I suppose only the final version of this needs it... esp the next version that will also correct Eyes on Me to work without CD (when using isos for example) and correct fade out and add 15 more musics from orchestra etc.  I will prob allow user to change volume and effects control too.

The concert can be left for now.

I'll update it as you feel needed. max upload speed is only 8mbps (thats megaBits, so only 1 megabyte) so the more seeders would be helpful
