Hi guys. I use a RAM corruption program (RTCV) to mess with games for fun, and while playing around with FF7 I managed to get the music sequencer to play a voice clip I've never heard before. It's not really words, but a painful sounding male grunt, like someone getting punched in the stomach and going "URGH!"

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/628375639602233374/660373405157294080/ff7_voice.wav (Note: the repetition and tone changes are a result of the game trying to play this as a music instrument, so only the final occurence is how the clip actually sounds in full)

To replicate it yourself, freeze 0x99789 to 9A during the Zack + Cloud flashback in the ShinRa Mansion when they break out of the pods and Cloud is lying on the ground.

Just wondering, has this sound already been dumped? If so, are there others like it? I'm curious to learn more. I thought the only voice samples in the game were One Winged Angel vocals.

General Discussion / Curious about this dialog...
« on: 2010-09-06 00:26:09 »
This always stood out to me as something not quite right, but I've never seen it discussed anywhere before.

You know those two guards who stand blocking the path south at the base of the Sector 7 pillar? If you chat with them before heading back to the train for your next mission, the 'wimpy' guy on the left says some pretty weird things. I've never been able to make much sense out of it.

Here's how the conversation goes.

Wimpy guard: "You know, I got some tickets to 'Loveless', do you want to go?"
Gruff guard: "What're you, retarded? Midgar's under martial law now!"

The next line is very peculiar. I have no idea which guard is saying this, because there's no pause between these dialog boxes, and nobody moves.

???: "Cloud, are you really concerned for me?" --Wait, is he talking to Cloud? These guards don't know who Cloud is. And what a weird question to ask him...?

Stranger still, it's the Gruff guard who responds to this, as if this question was directed at him.

Gruff guard: "Hell no! But in case you forgot, we're in the middle of a slum. They could be anywhere around, so stay on your guard."
Wimpy guard: "Right. You mean the AVALANCHE? Don't you worry. SOLDIER has been added to the police force."

So... what exactly is going on here? Is this just a translation error? It doesn't feel like one, tbh. Why would the name 'Cloud' even be there?

Troubleshooting / FF7Music maxing my volume
« on: 2010-09-05 20:06:06 »
Hi guys. I bit the bullet today and installed FF7 again. All these spiffy-lookin' new mods forced me to do it. :3

Suprisingly, I didn't have much trouble getting everything working, but of course, FF7Music has to be the difficult child... Could someone please help me troubleshoot what's wrong? I've tried keyword searches and didn't come up with anything useful. If it's been posted about before, I apologise and would love to be pointed in that direction. Thanks. :)

Here are the details. I'm on Windows XP Home. My soundcard is an Audigy 2 ZS. Drivers fully up to date.

FF7Music version 1.51, being used in conjunction with Aali's driver version 0.7.8b.

Sound Plugins being used: in_vgmstream.dll (Input), out_wave.dll (Output).

Other patches currently applied: 1.02, Menu Reconstruction, Gjoerulv's Hardcore.

Sound effects and music both work; I'm using the OSTRE_Looping music pack and it's fantastic. The only problem I'm having now is, the music volume maxes itself out as soon as I load my save.

I've tried putting the volume setting of FF7Music all the way down to 40, and even setting my Wave volume control all the way down, but as soon as the game loads it's all like "HOLY SH-- I GOTTA PLAY MUSIC NOW YEEAAAAAAAHHHHH", and my headphones cry in pain... :(

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks for reading.
