You might have noticed every user now has a level, display next to their rank in the post. At the moment, this level is calculated solely on a user's post count, but it will be extended in the future to prevent flooding just to get better levels. Also, expect further trinkets that'll help enhance the feel of the board :D
-
Hmn.... Now to find some poor low-level poster to challenge to a battle....Must master that last Shield materia...!
::feels growing stronger:: ahhhh...
(inside joke)
-
Wow... Cool. Right now, it looks like I'm one of the top 4 people not to mess with, in terms of lvl count... :wicked:

I have to congratulate u on the new forum, it finally looks similar to the gem that was once the swipnet forum (i think) this has more features and looks nicer, but the original was easier on the eye :)
-
Levels.. hmmm... I like the whole level idea.. but stars rocked too..
-
number 2 here :) im sure qhimm is changing it to include something like # words / post. probably just for me too :) ill be level 2 instead of number 2 :)
-
I like the setup now that the posts you havn't read have that little red thingy next to them (when it works I might add)

Darkness:
Level = (Round(Posts / 5)) - (100 - WordsPerPost)
Or something like that... :wicked:

Sorry, no words-per-post calculations. Levels are calculated real-time, so one would have to screen through every single post on the board and count the words each time your level was to be displayed.
-
So what can these levels actually be used for?
-
Well, in an arguement... your opinion would be taken more over mine :wicked: , if no one else actually knew the material we were arguing over... I guess?

So My opinion that all Xbox's should be smashed would be taken over your opinion that they shouldnt?
-
Heh, just another way of showing rank by posts.
I miss the stars :-p
-
Actually I would agree with you Sir MOT! Remember you have managed to mind control the lower level slimes such as myself into smashing all X-Boxes that we come across.

So how is the level calculated?
Is it something with the user-post-percent-of-all-posts ?

LOL.....
*Uses GF Eden's "LVL Down" ability on Seph3d*
That oughta even the odds down a bit.......
RENZOKUKEN!!
heh heh.
-
*Uses MASTER level "Knights of the Round" on Goku7, and watchs him die.* :wicked:
*Then Seph3D takes his Phonix Potions, all his revival items and a few Ether potions off of Goku7's body before casting "Life" on him. Then Seph3D tosses him a dime.*
Go get a drink & come back in about 15 levels.

I like the levels, but wouldn't it be cool to have some description title other than the newbie, crazy poster, no life titles. I mean, we can keep those titles, but we can have something that describes us, like for example, Alhexx "a heartbroken cyberstalker", Caddberry "tripped out dude", Qhimm "the forum deity", something like that. We can be able to edit those descriptions.

Forum deity... I like it! As thanks for the idea, I'll look into it.

*staggers as he gets up*
I knew I shoulda followed up with Lion Heart......
Wait a minute! I forgot! I'm a clone of Goku! So you wanna wait till I gain levels, eh?
*Uses Keioken x20, level is boosted past 99..*
Is this high enough for 'ya?
anyway, as for Qhimm: "Forum Diety"? LOL! Brillant!
-
Yeah... "Forum Diety" sounds cool.
It's be cool to be able to give us a little description to put next to our rank or something... I have no idea what I'd put though.

Seph: Does the background color of your avatar keep changing or am I crazy? ................................ Or both?
-
Actually, It's in a PNG format, that only Netscape 6 currently supports natively with the Alpha channel. If you were to look at my avatar with NS6, you'll see the image transparent, lookig near-perfect, like it'd been rendered for that background.
I like NS6. :D

This possibly goes a bit off-topic, however:
Qhimm or SaiNt: Is there a Rank after "No Life", perhaps at 2000 posts (or 5000)?
- Alhexx
-
The old forum let you go to the FAQ and see the ranks. "No life" was the last on the list, but since some people are nearing 2000, I think a new rank would be kinda cool...
Maybe Qhimm could make one up but it'd be a surprise until someone passes 2000.
-
Netscape... That is... CRAP! I hate Netscape.
-
Netscape 6 is actually pretty good (and fast) - - or at least, 6.1+ is (when they released 6.0, it was still crashing all over the place). The Netscape 4 series is still around, and it's ok, but lots of new flashy stuff on web pages isn't supported in it correctly.
I prefer IE just because it's here, all nice and tied into Windows and stuff... convienient. Not to mention its folder-like FTP thing.

Uh. Dumb question, but why not just convert it to GIF format then? I haven't run into PNGs before, don't mind me.
-
PNG is great ! it has best loseless compression.
-
If he converted it to GIF, I don't think it would look as good in Netscape 6. Probably would be the same in IE.
-
You can fiddle with Alpha channel stuff in GIF formats. In addition to Animation and all that.
I never used Netscape much, but I don't remember it ever having problems with Gifs.
-
I thought PNG was a linux format... Ot at least Conqerour new of it. I like Conquerour! I want to see it ported to Windoze and also GnoZip.
-
Conquerour had problems with many web pages i tried to view with it.
I don't know if PNG was originally a Linux format, but I think it has been adopted as the main Linux format recently.
-
I dont know if it is linux format, but maybe it is associated with linux because it is free.
For you programmers who want to play with png go to http://www.libpng.org
-
PNG is open source, which is why some people associate it with Linux. There was a bit of fluster going about with the PNG group and Apple, after an Apple patent having to do with Alpha Channels came to light-doesn't really effect the PNG format itself, just some applications that use it. So far, Apple has yet to announce any intentions with it's patent, so it may just let it be (esp. since progs like Adobe Photoshop use alpha channels, and it's doubtful Apple wants to tick off such an important developer of apps for their platform).
Konqueror is getting better, though it still has a long way to go. Mozilla is about the best way to go on a Tux box (IMHO), though Opera does fairly well, as does Galeon (Gnome's browser, based on Mozilla...)
-
I dunno if i get it right, somebody wants to register 'alpha channel' ? Somebody wants to register transparency ? This cant be.
-
Not the transparency, but the technique used to display it (masking). Here, these two articles explain it better than I can:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/22898.html
http://pmt.sourceforge.net/SVG-patents/apple.html
-
A patent on alpha-blending using mask images. That's pretty heavy. Practically *everything* image&alpha-related on computers is dependant on that little technique.
-
Exactly. Since Apple's been relatively quiet on the subject, I take it as a good thing-Not shooting their own feet by stirring up major developers like Adobe (I wonder where the Mac would be without the graphics developer community). Of course, they could be biding their time, waiting to see what happens later on-then Apple might consider enforcing the patent if it thinks it's in it's own best interest.
Heh, just noticed the topic review displays in reverse order. Pretty sweet!
