balamb garden project
« on: 2017-08-02 14:39:18 »
hi all i'm currently recreating the Balamb Garden to it's full scale, including balamb island and the nearby port/town in unreal engine 4.

I'm hoping someone can assist me, I'm after a model of the balamb garden I can use as a guide to aid in building the external structure.

Is there a way to extract the particular model from the game or has anyone successfully recreated the model?

Only after a low res version as It will be just for a guide can anyone help? thanks.

Will post images and WIPs of the internal areas i've been doing when they get a bit more polish :)

Thanks in advice

Use: https://github.com/MaKiPL/FF8-Rinoa-s-Toolset to extract Balamb Garden mobile from wmset.section16
Use: https://github.com/cospi/wmx2obj to extract world map segment to OBJ
Balamb town: https://github.com/Kandy-Man/FF8HD/tree/master/Assets/Art/Models/Fields/Balamb (I don't remember if it's up-to-date model; I probably never uploaded the latest version)

I'm repeating myself, but I'd be right happy to assist any 3D remake/remodel/remaster/anything.

Thanks will give those a good looking over.

At present i'm currently doing the main interior section of the garden, but hoping to eventually have the entire island modeled in unreal :)

Any assist is appreciated :)

edit: I had a look at those things that were listed, got no idea how to use them  ???

hi.

Very nice work on the town, Thanks for those files will be interesting to see what i can do with them in the UE4.

You happen to have any external meshes of the garden by chance? even low quality ones would do..

I know i'm been a pain in the ass

Will post up some images later of the progress i made already of the garden interior :D

Edit: Added Wips of the garden in 3ds max so far :)

hi, glad ya like the current WIP's,  The main reason I was after the garden mesh was to assist in the creation of it's external features.  Before its transformation.

Ideally the mesh would give me a basic template of the shape i can work from to create a high res version for the external part of the garden i'm making.

Will take a look at the one ya just sent me in the PM :)

Still learning how to use unreal engine 4 to create the island in it's full splendor.

Lumberyard/cryengine = good for landscapes
unreal Engine 4 = good for geometry and physics.

There's trade off with each :( that I can tell, anyhows i'll be experimenting with both until i'm happy with the quality :)

EDIT: Just checked ya model ya sent, it's the mobile version.  Appreciate it.  Any chance you can grab the other version when ya get time please?.  before the transformation. :)
Appreciate ya taking the time :)

Shocked of how low poly they made them originally lol

I have thank you,

already started work using it as a rough guide :), although I had to rip it to pieces in places, it looks decent :), and so much better than the in game version.
I'm currently rebuilding it in 3ds max and have already ported your model into my test world in unreal engine to gauge the scale and size :).

Will post more pics of progress as and when i get some done :)

Wow, you were not kidding when you said you were already hacking it to bits.

You fixed the front door! :)

I'm imagining a bunch of little digital people going over my building and saying things like. "Why.... tubes?" and "Why on earth did he put a wall here?" and "Really? Is that how they go together?"

I hope you at least save the base it sits on... I did some mad photo-matching to get the locations of the external buildings just right.

Of course.. ;)

mostly everything will be useful in creating the new higher poly parts, good templates ;).

regarding the front entrance, that was damn tricky to do.   Took me a few hours to get it the way I liked it, but still needs some additional refinement, as will everything  :P.

just doing my best to keep the mesh as clean as possible.

To maintain scale i've made the garden slightly bigger Hope you like WIP's so far  ;)

aren't the front stairs a little steep? Where do the little gates go?

actually now that ya mention it  :?,

i'll widen the entrance, the max model is mostly gonna be used as a guide for the rebuild in unreal.  it's useful having a mesh to work from.

if i can get it mostly right in max i'll have a better guide to work from, in engine I can always do modifications :)

plus those stairs are there as a placeholder only

With the right 3d models for characters you could possibly remake the fmvs using this kind of skill. I need to find a guy to help with this for ff7 lol.

I'm totally amazed by your progress! I ripped for you real in-game battle fields with original textures, so you basically get a low-poly structure of Balamb:

(You can see parts of classroom that aren't visible on any field in-game which is fairly cool!)
Due to fact it's copyrighted material I'm sending it over PM

More or less you can get this:
