Ready to be ported!
Merged all the textures into one. The cape isn't as high quality compared to the old pictures in terms of lines and folds within the cape. But i rather use 1 texture file in-comparison to 6.
I did upscale the face texture and redrew the eyes however. I think this is a good compromise, the cape was too detailed compared to the other characters anyway.
So do you like the new Vincent compared to my old release? :D

And to be honest, with the model I used my own face as reference in some areas. Since i have a diamond head shape. Also to experiment what eyebrow expression I could add to the model. haha so for those who think this "Zack" looks weird in certain angles, that explains it. ha

Okay! It's ported into the game!
Only made the main field model so far. This will be an beta release. I do plan to do the rest of the main characters eventually! :)
Download includes a non shaded npc and a shaded one. Keep in mind, it's not the finished product.
Oh and he can also blink! :-D

Nice to see ya around man ;) I like your concept. Keep everything visually the same across the whole game experience (Nomura was obsessed with that for FFX because it bothered him on FFVII and FFVIII)
Say...
If you'd start a thread spelling out how to get the field models to blink... I'm sure you'd make allot of folks around here happy. Even if it's just a numbered text list, because I've completely forgotten... I remember finding the simple instructions somewhere here on the forum by searching but it wasn't easy. I made a proto-type APZ Cloud chibi field model and got him to blink... that that was years ago and those files are gone.
8) I understand if it's asking too much, but it'd help.

I think this would be the Ideal model-style to go for... I actually really like the way he pretty much fits in with the FMV Cloud.

Haha, I was the same though. It's been years since I made any mods. I literally forgot how to make the model blink and port models. So I referred back to my own tutorials on this forum that I did awhile back when I was in high school. Thank god that qhimm keeps old threads. Surprisingly all my tutorials are still here, just that it's scattered everywhere. Anyway thanks!
Method 1
So from memory there was a proper way of doing this with Pcreator via texture Id. Let's use Tifa for an example.
The head model AAHB.p consists of 3 groups.
- Group 0 Is the head.p
- Group 1 is eyes plane
- Group 2 is the mouth plane
AAHA.rsd corresponds to AAHB and when you open it in notepad, you will have:
@RSD940102
PLY=AAHB.PLY
MAT=AAHB.MAT
GRP=AAHB.GRP
NTEX=2
TEX[0]=AAHC.TIM
TEX[1]=AAHE.TIM
The Ntex is the total number of textures and 0 is the eye texture. 1 is the mouth texture. So as long as you set it up the same way as the original, you will be able to blink correctly. So create a new line TEX[2]=custom.TIM name it whatever you named your tex file as and that will be the texture for the actual head.
So have your head model with eyes textured underneath and a plane overlapping it with the same texture file but umv to another area of it, ie closed eyes texture.
In Pcreator, change the field ID In relation to to the groups mentioned above.
Method 2
1. Import the plane for the eyes into kimera first and edit it's rsd properties.
Which is ntex=1 and the name of your tex file.
Found a Faster way with Kimera. Import eyes plane go to texture options > change texture
2. Add part to the bone ( So the head.p )
eg cloud is aaba.p and after attaching, a new file should be created within the folder named aaba1.p.
Edit the rsd properties.
Add Bone to part and go to texture options > add texture
Done!

It is about time someone besides @KulaWende made a mod for Cid Highwind. Thank you very much, @weeemus, keep up the good work.
Let's get this straight. Kula didn't make ANYTHING you see in "his" AC Mod. He took Namespoofer's AC Mod and simply redistributed it claiming it to be his own. Later he joined a small community that had strict rules to only share imported models amongst themselves, and then stole some of those and once again claimed it to be "his" AC Mod. He then proceeded to burn it all to a DVD (including things like Aali's driver and other mods found here at qhimm) along with an installer and SELL IT to people.
So please, let's stop this ridiculous Kula Wende worship, he has contributed NOTHING to the community other than taking other peoples work and making a profit off of it. In most countries he would be considered a criminal.

Haha, I suppose i can make 2 versions of Vincent then. One as fmv style and the other as Dirge of Cerberus art style as a side mod. But we'll see! Since I still have to make the other characters :P

This mod is a great idea and has me genuinely excited. I would love to have field and battle models to match the FMV's. With Omzy's field pack, DLPB's Mods, the Reanimation and FPS mods, the entire game can be upgraded and still look consistent throughout.

Just open the desired sword model, in this case the buster sword in kimera, resize it down to be within reason of a field model and save as a field model, open the Cloud field model, add a part to the torso of Cloud (The resized buster sword model) and finish resizing and positioning. Done.
My only problem with those models is when he sits down or lays down the sword goes through everything, not to mention as soon as you get a new sword the buster sword doesn't make sense. I guess it's a matter of which is more believable to you, that Cloud can pull a sword out of nowhere or that he can sit, lay, roll, etc. with the buster sword on his back.

I would like to inform you that the first time I saw Final Fantasy VII, it was on a small screen on the back of a chair in a vehicle. Due to this, I thought Cloud's Field Model had a Buster Sword on his back. Of course, I was obviously hallucinating. However, that memory has left an impression on me ever since then. I do agree with everything you said, yet my preference is something I hold with high regard. I can't seem to get anything to work in Kimera, because I am too lazy to figure it out. @Weeemus made an excellent Buster Sword Model that looks great.
EDIT: I have always wanted to see someone make it so that the field models had their different weapons equipped at different times. I understand that this is pointless due to the fact that one would have to recreate the char.lgp for each individual weapon for each character. However, I still think it would be awesome if Cloud Strife could have the Ultima Sword on his back as Field and World Map Models.

To replace any models you only need to use ulgp 0.5 or Aalis original lgp tool (use the search and look through the results there are plenty of tutorials) if you know how to use command line. I think that in the new bootleg (0040) all of these models will be supported.

Unfortunately I do get rather busy at times, So it may take a few days or perhaps weeks for a model to be completed, Unless it happens to be a weekend and I happen to be free of my freelance jobs, I can finish a model in a day :)

Oh no I do it the cheap way. Let's say I made an arm and leg once. I would use that for the rest of the characters but remodel it and morph it to how i want it to look and ofcourse by adding new faces for certain areas ie sephiroths shoulder armor or Cid's jacket has a picture on the side of his arm. It get's results and done quicker!
So alot of slicing and cutting and then mesh smooth modifier ( when necessary ) and remove the unnecessary faces/vertices by wielding the vertices together :mrgreen:
As for the head, i would use the original battle model in the back as reference and create the head by constructing planes ontop of it if that makes sense? lol
In other words, I'm not as skilled as how you think i am. But thanks! :)

Baby Fantasy was just a testy with hrc resizer at 70% with SD checked. :D
You can change it with that after my release of the full size models. For me I think it's still not baby enough lol I would remodel it abit if i were to actually port it as a true retro chibi character.
Anyway updated the screenshot of Sephiroth! His body is complete! What's left to do is his head, hair and texture + uv mapping

Keep in mind, this is still a "WIP" thread and ontop of everything else, this is a solo task and I don't have all the time in the world. So be patient ;)
So my priorities is to get as many models done first. Considering the porting and transferring doesn't take too long. Where as i want to be more proactive with the limited time i have.

If I may say, @EQ2Alyza, she is only disproportional in the FMVs and in fan art. The original artwork by Tetsuya Nomura shows her correctly proportioned. I think @weeemus should use Tetsuya's version as a reference.

That is actually very easy to do is well. Since he already made a model for sephiroth, it comes down to renaming the model parts for the sephiroth he made to the model parts of those sephiroths, and replace them. It's brainless work that he doesn't need to spend his time on. He should just continue making new stuff so if (when really) his life becomes too busy or he loses interest you'll have all or as much of the assets to finish the project yourself.
For example:
He would need to complete these or we'd end up using PRP for these models instead -

Which one is more preferable? I don't want this Zack to look like the one in CC, AC, or any of the new ff's. I can't find any references of Zack apart from the extremely blurry photograph, which isn't much help lol. At the moment, I'm feeling like i should just remodel the whole thing! Looks pretty crap through my eyes, and not to my standards >:( (Especially his face)

Keep the shorter hair, it's more distinct. Longer hair makes him look like a black haired cloud.
He also needs some stubble.

Yeah, the face isn't the best, but it is distinct from Cloud's, which is good. The longer hair is much more reminiscent of how he looks in all the new FMVs like AC, but both look pretty good.

Careful with the angles in his face. Jaw is a little more flat. It would be nice if you "sweeten" him up a little. Thanks for the reference pictures. In the end I decided to just base him off CC and Re-modify him to my tastes, which that will blend with the other characters.
Constructed a new face and hair! Screenshots are up. Keeping him simplistic (Explains the low poly nose, which is pretty much a triangle)

You know, combine these models with Bloodshot's reanimation project. and it'll actually be pretty awesome (i don't like big field models as the animations are clearly not geared with them in mind)

Just a failing DA try that a user with the name vasouli1000 has edited for herself :P :P I've quited on this a long time ago though. The real reason for signing up on DA back then was for ff artwork anyway and trying to find this "score06" Squall cosplays that really kick ass, oh and a real gunblade too haha (what can I say... as an Iaidoka and Katori trainee I'm on the sword).

Those look a hell of a lot better than the vanilla battle models so I'm definitely gonna use these for field/wm/battle ( well, except those where we have already HQ models like Cloud, Barret and Red13 )
you might want to talk to Omega ( I forgot the rest of his nick ) that does the Knights of Midgar KOTR mod and see if he can't use some of your models.

Hes letting me use them as he finishes them. Hes letting me use cid right now because there arent any other models. And cloud cuz he just finished the battle models. Hed like to fully complete the models before theyre used elsewhere which is very reasonable. I keep a list of mods on the op of my thread of what models ive been given permisson to use.

I decided to re-texture him. So far I've only done the cape. Ideally I wanted the extremely simplistic look, but at the same time I thought, I could add a little more detail. Considering it took 2 minutes literally to draw the texture for the old Vincent. Whilst now I'm spending 10 minutes on the texture! :D

Usually it would take a lot longer if we were to produce quality textures :)
But a quick summary.
Umv unwrap - cylindrical - reset - fit
Wield selected
Pack uv's - Linear packing
Render umv template
export selected part
Import as new 3d layer in photoshop cs4 extended
Add details with the brush tool! done!
I only recently discovered the 3D import since I didn't have extended version at the time. And my god It is amazing! Saves so much time compared to how I used to draw my textures.

you can make an image with all the textures parts with gimp or photoshop and make a new uv coordination into blender with the new image you made before import. Sorry for my bad english i'm french.

First off, Vincent's hair looks 100x better now, just as the improvement on Zack's hair was tremendous. You genuinely excite me to look at the progress you make on this mod because of how good the idea is and the quality of execution.
My main concern is that you don't burn yourself out, so when you start looking into different higher-res textures I hope you will stay with methods that won't take a ridiculously long time for you to make. My other minor concern that you probably are even more aware of is making sure any higher-res textures still match the fmv's as best as possible. Any models that look good but don't match could always be released separately but I'm greedy and I want this mod. ;)
I'm sure you'll do fine anyways though, but I like this mod a lot and decided to give some feedback. 8-)

Thanks for your input. That's pretty much what I do, but it still reduces the quality. It's slightly more pixelated. But thought I'd ask before I merged them into one. Ha guess this is the only way.
Then again not that it matters too much, considering the ff7 game itself is quite zoomed out and you can hardly see the details to begin with. ( which was why my old vincent textures looked good ingame and not in 3d max)
My other minor concern that you probably are even more aware of is making sure any higher-res textures still match the fmv's as best as possible
Thanks for the feedback. I only edited my Vincent due to it being "too simple" at first. But do not worry, the end result will still blend with the other characters. Furthermore lighting! Makes a huge impact on my models. So with the correct lighting, it should be all good ;)

True, that his sword should be shorter. But I prefer it slightly bigger ha you can always re-size it yourself if you'd like in kimera. Remember this is FMV "Inspired" and not 100% based upon.
As for his hair, I did see a lot of different shades such as dark yellow and more to the orange side in certain pictures. Then again it's because his in different areas with different lighting. I only stuck with his current colour, Since i believe it blends well with most of the background environment he is in.

Merged all the textures into one. The cape isn't as high quality compared to the old pictures in terms of lines and folds within the cape. But i rather use 1 texture file in-comparison to 6.
I did upscale the face texture and redrew the eyes however. I think this is a good compromise, the cape was too detailed compared to the other characters anyway.
So do you like the new Vincent compared to my old release? :D

"Never even see"? They're part of the story! People are forced to see them... Unless they look away from the computer screen...

I haven't tested them in-game, But in theory I think The huge Cloud would be completely invisible in "Cloud's mind" and probably only his sword is visible (Since the sword was added to chest bone ) if not, then nothing at all. Since I'm not using any vertex colors, the whole model is textured in group 0.

I have it on my psp (dissidia 012) but never touched it before and if i were to play it, i'd use an emulator for full hd ha. Otherwise if anyone knows a hd playlist in the correct order on youtube, that'll be awesome! Since i'm abit reluctant to play just to watch the cutscenes.

Yep, that's Duodecim. They actually have a mod where you can start a new game while keeping all the materials you obtained on your save from the first game, and go through each story with the new functions they added in, such as the world map. It's a great game.

It's been quite awhile since I've entered the forum. I can see a lot of wonderful mods and the progression is just amazing.
Unfortunately I cannot release my NPC reconstruction as of yet. I was 80% done, up until my hard drive crashed and lost all of my files. Sigh.
In any case. I assume all menu and world texture overhauls will eventually be close to 3D. I decided to re-model Cid. Rather than basing it on the FMV completely this time. I'll create my own rendition. Not too high quality as it will look out of place. Minimal but it will suffice haha

Wow, I can't believe you're back. Welcome back :)
If possible, I'd suggest finish modeling everyone after the FMV style. Kaldarasha is the only one who has a complete set of the characters, so having a second set with a different style is good IMO. I like consistency in the designs. Just my opinion 8)
