I've gathered many posts start this way, but I'll preface everything with a thank you for your time so far and the efforts you all put in towards making everything here work.  I'd also like to point out that I spent a good while reading the forums and, while I'm sure I missed some relevant topics, I did make an effort to solve my issue here without having to bother anyone.  I'll try organizing this post as best I can as to not make it harder on anyone who might try helping.

My issue: The game reliably freezes about an hour into active gameplay.  This only seems to happen when I'm moving between areas or progressing the story.  It's happened every single time I play, and I spent several hours before making this post testing different settings and trying to simply grind in one area to see if it caused the issue or shortened the time before it occurred after moving to a new area.  It all wound up being the same, and after about an hour's gameplay combined moving from area to area the game froze.

The problem presents only when entering a battle screen or changing field screens.  Music continues to play, but even after several minutes of waiting the screen remains black (or frozen at the start of a battle, in the case of a battle freeze) and inputs aren't registered(can't hear any sfx from moving or menu commands).

Aside from slight, occasional stuttering in battle the game runs smooth and without flaw during the period before the freeze, and as far as I can tell all installed mods are present and working properly.

I am running the legit, physical version of FF7's PC version from 1998.  I've had the disks since what feels like forever, and the thought of trying them out with mods interested me.

After my last freeze I read through the forums once more and realized I didn't use nvidia control panel to force ff7.exe to run with the nvidia card.  I do apologize profusely for posting after not testing my latest version, but I've been doing this for about five or six hours, almost straight, as each test takes longer than an hour.  With my settings the way they are and the change to the graphics card setting: Is there any other possible cause of this issue and/or do my current settings seem like they would present any other issues.

My computer specs:

So I know I'm gonna sound like an idiot, but the instructions are going over my head today. I've got a PC version (official, on disc and everything, 1998 version), installed the OPENGL mod so it actually works on my Windows XP, I'm now downloading the ridiculously large 20GB file of mods. All I want to do is upgrade the graphics and models so they look a bit more modern. I'm not really interested in any gameplay changes (unless there's some excellent ones to let me know about?) so do I need all 20GB of the files? How does actually applying the mods work once I've got them? Does 'Bootleg' do it all for me? Thanks, and sorry for a question that must have been asked 400 times already..

the only excellent gameplay changes are
gjoerluvs hardcore mod
FF7 OVA
Nightmare 7

hardcore only makes it harder, OVA has new events and Nightmare combines both of the above with even more stuff.

and no, you don't need the ridiculous 20GB
that's countless duplicates
bootleg does all the work ( FF7 OVA and Nightmare 7 not included yet )

my pc:
phenom II 920

installed version:
remake + bootleg

My issue:
the game wont start, i´ve followed this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfiVZ7YGFfA and as soon as i open the bootloader and press run ff7 , the screen goes black, as if the game is about to start, but it does not, and goes back to desktop.

if i click on the ff7 loader (re-make exe) the game still works , and with some of the mods. but i played for a few minutes and it "freezes" in the middle of a conversation ( the game keeps going , music still on ) but cant continue moving forward in the conversation

ps: i tried reinstalling everything and the problem persists, also tried with the option safemode in the bootloader

I noticed in your APP log is that you are running on the Intel HD Graphics. I did see in your images that you have the Nvidia Control Panel set to correctly to run from your GPU, so it's odd that the game doesn't register it when playing. Check this post to see if you're related: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13248.0 --- If that doesn't help, then you will need to do a search for your specific laptop on how to switch between the integrated and dedicated graphics.

The FacePalmer textures have been updated since the release of Bootleg 0039. You will want to use them > DOWNLOAD HERE < . Extract them to C:\Games\FF7\Bootleg\field. If you ever do a new install of Bootleg, leave the "Remove Glitched" box unchecked since the new pack fixed them.

There are download links on Page 1 that are labeled just like they are in Bootleg. Find what you want and download them individually. Adding onto Kuggen's suggestions, Lost Wing is a decent gameplay mod as well.

one more bug,  cloud´s sword´s graphic is missing WHILE in fights.
did NOT choose the model without sword

No, you don't have to change it. Models are stored in .lgp files within the ...\data folder of your FF7 directory. These files are packed/unpacked by a tool that is currently a bit buggy and is the cause for some of the issues reported with models. There is a way to solve it, but it will require some manual work.

1) Download this tool: UNLGP+LGP 0.5 Automatic By Kranmer.exe

2) Run it and make sure the section "Select Destination Location" points to the ...\data folder inside your FF7 directory.

3) Check the box for "Unlgp battle.lpg" and then click Install. A new folder is going to appear called "battllelpg" with thousands of 4-letter files. All these files are models and model parts for everything related to the battle scenes. Keep this folder open in the background. We will return it.

4)  Open this ARCHIVED LIST of the battle.lpg, press Ctrl + F, and search for Cloud. You should see 4-letter labels and the names of what parts they correspond. Find the ones that correspond to Cloud's weapons. For example, Cloud's Buster Sword is labeled rtck. Carefully highlight or note all the 4-letter labels for his weapons.

5) Next, find your mod file called "Trish(aka Mike)'s custom model pack" and extract it to a new folder somewhere. Inside the new folder, locate Cloud's weapon models @ ...\Battle\Non effect\Cloud Strife. Copy all the files you highlighted in Step 4) above.

6) Go back to your "battlelpg" folder from Step 3) and paste the copied models from Step 5) into the folder. Make sure to Copy and Replace all.

7) Open up the tool from Step 1), making sure it again points to the .../data folder. Then choose "Rebuild battle.lpg" and Install. This will repack your battle.lpg file with the Millenia+Mike weapons.

8 ) That's it. If you aren't confident you did it correctly, locate the "battle.lgp.bak" inside the .../data/battle folder. This is a backup that was created before models were unpacked. Rename it to "battle.lpg" and have it overwrite the current one. Now you are back to zero and can try from Step 1) again.

first of all, thank you VERY much for your help
i was about to try it, but i played a little more anyway, reached sector7, and HQ tiffa is invisible in teamfights, is this another problem and should be solved in a similar way ?

if thats the case, is there any guide to repair it so i can leave you alone XD ?

It would be similar, yes. You just need to use that spreadsheet from Step 4) to find out the 4-letter labels for the skeleton and the body parts. Then go download the model you want from page 1 of this Tutorial, and replace them in your battle.lpg by the same methods in my last post.

Hi, I need a little help please.
When I try to run the game, it tells me "Failed to set the requested fullscreen mode, reverting to original resolution window mode", and loads up in a tiny window.
I installed the game from my original '98 copy, with the OpenGL mod, then I installed Bootleg with all the same options shown in the tutorial, on Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm not in a system folder, and I ran bootleg as admin, as well as disabling my antivirus.
I've looked through the thread, but I don't see anything that looks like my problem. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I can't find any log files to post, where would those be found?

Hello

Computer Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, AMD Phenom(TM) II X4 955 Processor 3.20 GHz, 8.00 GB RAM, NVIDIA Corporation Ge Force GT 430/Pie/SSE2 4.2.0

FF7 Version: Final Fantasy 7 2012 Release

Problems:

1. Cloud is no longer holding a weapon, and Aeris appears to hold a texture-less staff as well as her battle model being completely torn up as in missing a great deal of detail. Picture below.

2. I was able to fix the weapon problem for both Cloud and Aeris doing a manual install but Aeris seems to stay in that weird jumbled state of hers and I have no idea what's causing it. Below is the app data i pulled only using the bootleg installation and not my manual fixes. When I compared the APP data however I still found the same issues so I don't think it's necessary yet to post both (but if you need me to just ask! haha)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I must also say you guys are doing a great job with the installation stuff I really enjoy it so far.

When I try to run the game, it tells me "Failed to set the requested fullscreen mode, reverting to original resolution window mode", and loads up in a tiny window.

Open "ff7_opengl.cfg" with notepad and look exactly at the options

window_size_x = 1920
window_size_y = 1080

If that does not work check if you can use it with your desktop resolution.

Any time you set the game resolution higher than what you've set for your monitor's native resolution, then it will revert back to the default 640x480 resolution at start up. It seems there is just a silly mistake in your configuration. You can do what Kompass63 suggested above, making sure to File->Save before you close Notepad. You can also change it in Bootloader Configure, making sure to click Write CFG before you close it out.

Guys, I think I'm doing this wrong :(

Downloaded the game (new version, 2012), installed to C:\Games\FF7. Installed New to Old mod, ran it, did the registry change, mounted a false CD, game loads up and plays fine. Downloaded bootleg and the whole 20GB pack, put all of that into the same folder, now here's the problem bit.. Bootleg.exe loads, gives me a load of questions with 0, 1, 2 as answers, I do them all, then bootleg.exe just closes, on opening the game nothing has changed. On running BFE.exe I just get 'the application failed to initialise' even though I'm running as admin and all that business. Any ideas anyone? Windows XP I'm running on.

Edit: I lie, it seems to have broken the music, random bars repeating, etc.

Hi, I have installed the retranslation mod in Bootleg while checking the "canon names" box which i think is supposed to use the psx names like "Marlene" right? but when I 1st meet Barret's daughter she is called "Marin". Any idea of what may be going on?
Also if this project is not complete, does that mean that when I get to the parts of the game that have not yet been retranslated, the game will use the original psx text?

I checked the cfg file, but it was already set to 1920x1080, which is the same as my desktop resolution.

I've also tried it at lower resolutions, like 1280x768, and I get the same error.
