Thank you so much for all your hard work. I have a quick question. Sorry if this has been asked before.  Whenever I change models and things in BFE do i need to run bootleg again to make the changes take place in the game?

For some reason I'm getting some strange error which causes the game to crash whenever I'm trying to start a battle. I follow the APP log and see the last lines are saying 'Could not open Camdat0.bin'. I did a quick search and found that the file is there and is in the right place so why couldn't it be opened?

In my APP log im recieving this error
"ERROR: failed to stat file F:\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VII\/shaders/SmartBloom.post
ERROR: init_postprocessing failed, postprocessing will be disabled"

When i run the bootleg launcher it tell me it had failed to initialize, howver the game still runs. Wondering if there is a fix for this?

Tried a few clean installs still nothing.

Not a huge deal, just curious.

I was wondering if it would ever be possible to have the achievements feature of the new re-release of the game along with the moddable version. i have recently purchased the new game and installed Bootleg again. Any idea when the new Bootleg version will be released? Thank you all guys for the excellent work you've been doing and the entertaining forum I so love to hang out with!

The Mods are working very good. Thank you for that. I have only one Question. I bought the Re-Relase, installed in on English, applyed the Mods. How can i translate it to german now? I tryed it with Bootleg but, it was not translatet completely. It was mixed with English and some points only hat Numbers (for example: if i wanted to save, there was no entry Save, it was just a number (14).). I deletetd everything, reinstalled it on english, applyed the mods. But how can i get it in german? Is it possible to do it manually?

Thank you in advance,

Hi AdrianMC

Before Bootleg you could use my FF7_GameConverter.
This gives you a German FF7, which can then be modified with other mods from this forum.
Unfortunately, the GC does not prevent other mods are still in English.

If the field texts are english, you could change gflevel.lgp to flevel.lgp ( in ...Data/Field/) but this will undo any changes done by overhauls like Nightmare7 or the Hardcore mod.
Alternative you could use my german overhaul.
It changes the texts into (hopefully) better german and does many more. I will update it later today the current version (02) has some bugs.

Hy. Thank you. I downloaded FF7 from the german SquareEnix site and installed it in english. Does it mean, that if i use the conferter before applying the bootleg mods, it will be in german after that? I do not need the nightmare or hardcore mod, only the better graphics and the FFX menu overhaul.

@Kaldarasha: can i install your overhaul after i applyed the bootleg mods?

Thank you for the very fast answers. You are doing very great work.

Hi AdrianMC

You can install the Re Release in any language you want.
During the installation with my GameConverter you can select the language for the oldRelease again.
The GC will then copy the files in that way it should be usabel for the oldRelease.
In addition, the registry keys are set accordingly, that is what matters.
At the end you have an (almost) oldRelease eg in German, which, however, used the English FF7.exe.

It is a sort of 'new to old converter' with some additional features and for all four languages.

You can now install other mods manually or use bootleg.
You should NOT use an additional 'new to old patch' or the translation function from Bootleg.

My mod has to be installed at last. But be carefull, the mod uses special field models, any field models which are installed by bootleg will replaced with my selection.
However the battle models are untouched.

Thank you for your help, you two. I managed to install both mods. But the German Translation sometimes uses to much space. Like "Ausrüsten" in the Menu. It does not fit in the area. Is this normal?

@ Kaldarasha: The new text is very good. It must have took you forever to rewrite the story!

#1, I very much enjoy and appreciate everything that's done here. It really does make the process of modding everything a lot more enjoyable.

#2, this question is more of a general computer one, but hopefully one that someone will know the answer to. I recently built a new computer and I'm reinstalling all my mods so I can continue my game. I use a SSD boot drive, it's a small one however and there is not enough free space to install the mods because the application temporarily places the mod files in ...AppData\Local\Temp. I've already transferred the location temporary internet files and such go to. But do you know how to change where this application/Windows places it's temporary files?

Thanks in advance.

cloudkitt,

Yes, the BFE has a tab that lets you choose all the locations. The Temp folder location is in there as well.

I must confess that I have to adapt the window is not taken care of properly.
If you have integrated the menu overhaul, you can 'MO_ger_Patch.zip' integrate, therein be adjusted a few windows (but not all).

Otherwise, take a picture and send it to me via PM, I'll try to adapt it.

Wow, I'm an idiot. I looked in File and Presets and totally forgot about the Installation tab. Thanks.

Hullo, I just recently installed bootleg+Tifa's package, but when I start up the game the eidos logo and chocobos run, then it freezes on the menu screen. I can't move the hand selector. Is there any way to fix this? (Haha I really want to play : x) Thanks for any help.

Details: 2012 pc version, followed eq2alyza's most recent yt tutorial (thanks!) downloaded extra mods, mildly bummed. Would it take as long as the first time if I reran bootleg with slight option changes again?

I'm having some trouble. I downloaded the torrent and set the preset settings to default. the installation went without a hitch, but when i try to load the game, i get a black screen and then a crash without an error message or anything. I've tried the various settings for graphics in the bootloader, even the safe one, and nothing happens. I'm using the 2012 re-release if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

Open up FF7Config.exe and set a sound device in the Sound tab. If left blank, the game won't launch.

Thanks for taking the time to put together the guides, I might finally get around to playing this game.  Credit to the mod developers too.

Just a general issue; I've tried a few presets briefly just to test the differences, some that wouldn't start at all.  Yours does work well, my only concern being there's no checkbox for the "Aeris Revival" mod in the bootloader when I use your preset so I want to be sure I have it working before making any progress.  Only things I changed were removing the difficulty mod in bootleg setup and a few character models if that helps any.

I'll be sure to post my log tomorrow, as soon as someone let's me know where i can find it.  ::)

My problem is as follows, on every single attempt (apart from one) at installing the mods it fails at the same spot. I tried two versions of Win7 and one version of XP. After the Phoenix Rejuvenation Project mods are installed, it proceeds to Grimmy's PRP Addons, after 2 - 4 lines of '0 installed' it stops, and hangs there for an indefinite amount of time until I close it mid-process. Once, I don't remember how, I got to the end of the mod installation and it finished properly. But when I try to run it, no matter what iteration I choose (nightmare, remix or Gjoerulv) it force closes before even starting (ffVII has stopped working).

I am running a virtual machine from a Macbook Air, could that be the issue? Or, could it be that my pal CD (now ISO) was old and had scratches on it - could that corrupt the data on the ISO? The latter I mention only because I can't even run FFVII vanilla (with no mods installed via bootleg), the title screen comes up but I can't move the cursor (pointed hand) to select new game.

Update, no app.log but a bootleg.txt - is this what you are referring too?

Please post your APP.log file.

I opened it up, but it's blank. APP.LOG under C:\Users\Me\MyDocuments\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VII

Sorry :I

(I ran bootloader in safe mode once, and since then everytime I launch through bootloader my graphics go all wonky and huge and the problem of freezing on the menu screen (new game/continue) without being able to move it persists. FFVII runs fine through it's own shortcut, but only the avatar mods seem to be working then.)
