Completely Unrelated / Video Editing
« on: 2006-12-11 17:46:06 »
Does anybody know of some good (preferably free) video editing software? I have used Adobe Premiere 6.0 and I absolutely love it, but it is >$600... Windows Movie Maker on the other hand completly sucks, and I'm still looking around. It would be beneficial if the software had the ability to reverse a clip and have the "layers" timeline system (like Adobe Premiere) but anything is better than WMM.

...but i assume that if it was there would be a whole lot less people following it.
Well, the Nazi's were pretty "trucked up" and a lot of people still followed them...

One of my problems with Islam is its "success" as a religion -- it is based on the fact that "muslim missionaries" (more like Islamic armies) virtually went on religious conquests, forcing everybody to become muslim regardless of their beliefs. Also, it is not a good thing when your religion is associated with mass murder and rape...

One of my problems with Christianity is its "success" as a religion -- it is based on the fact that "christian missionaries" (more like Christian armies) virtually went on religious conquests, forcing everybody to become Christian regardless of their beliefs. Also, it is not a good thing when your religion is associated with mass murder and rape...

How does the concept of Crusades sit with your values?

Of course, certain countries have been keeping their Jesus-loving fingers out of Iran for almost like... *gasp* 30 years by now. No wonder they are not rife with poverty. Of course, things like that have to fixed, which is why you are seeing glimmer of war in Dubya's beady eyes.
Of course all Christians are associated with these crusades correct? Oh, wait... The Christian crusades were sanctioned by the Pope, who is the leader of the Catholic religion. I completely agree with you on that third to last statement except for one part which I will have to add later because I have to go to class.

Anyone can go and find pictures of people having fun in just about any country.

EDIT: Of course, quoting a pundit whose blog's ingress says something like "...these are the product of a specific cultural evolution having its genesis in Ancient Greece and reaching the summit of philosophical maturity in the Anglo-American Enlightenment." does have some dangers. He sounds like he's just a teeny weeny bit full of himself, and his cultural "superiority". :-D
Note how I only quoted the portion I agreed with. Just because I quoted 2 sentences doesn't mean I agree with his entire blog.

In U.S., fear and distrust of Muslims runs deep
Click^

[Edit]
I agree with Jerry Klien as well, that it would be no different from when the Nazis marked the Jews during WWII. However, I must point out that I do think that the muslim religion is very wicked and corrupt. I myself am somewhat mistrusting of muslims as a whole, though I try not to judge on appearence.

In addition to Islam's anti-free-agency conquests,
"Islamic countries are fascist, autocratic or theocratic, where women are subjugated and minorities persecuted. Islamic countries are rife with poverty and have been for centuries. Polls show that in many Islamic countries a majority of Muslims lionize the man responsible for the atrocities of September 11th and the terrorist gangs who routinely slaughter civilians in Israeli buses and restaurants. In Arab schools and on Arab television, children are taught the glory of becoming suicide bombers. Almost everywhere that Islam borders other cultures, there is violence."

Why not bring along a few applications you've been wanting to learn, and teach yourself?

For instance, I bring along my USB drive that has Game Maker on it to school, and develop games in my spare time. It's actually surprisingly powerful, and you can make some pretty cool games (I'll upload a few to show one of these days).

Have you ever wanted to learn to 3D model? Bring along Blender3D and make some simple CGIs. The more time you have, the better you'll become.

As the owner of a DS, and the brother of an owner of a PSP, I'm going to have to say that I'm much happier with a DS.

The loading times for the DS are virtually instant, whilst my brother waits nearly 5 minutes to play one level of battlefront.

The DS is backwards compatible with GBA, and has an arsenal of good games (Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS), and is more than half the price of a PSP...

I don't know, the only reason I would ever buy a PSP would be because of it's homebrew/emulation capabilities. You can jack up your PSP though if you're not careful.

Make your choice wisely...

A couple things I noticed:

1. Yellow text must go, it's burning my retinas  :-P
2. Ficedula's Cosmo program is listed twice
3. You should group the programs by functionality and by author (like elentor)

Other then that good job! I'll see if I can find some of M4v3r's programs (Sapphire, Emerald and Omega Weapon)

This whole ordeal is ridiculous. Campers where I live spent 48+ hours waiting in line for best buy, and when the moment of truth came, only 4 consoles were available... As for me and my brothers, I think "Wii" are going to get a... well you know  :-P

Ah, nice, it looks pretty cool, I'll check it out.
It can't connect to the internet though, correct?
[Edit] Ah, it seems as though the Acer n50 does have wi-fi capabilities, which is good. Is this a UK product or something? I mean, I can't seem to find one being sold in dollars (save ebay), and most all of them are sold in GBP... [/Edit]

Yeah, and I kinda ruled out the cell phone/PDA - "Treo," I'm just going to get a regular cell phone with cheap service instead.

Hey all,

I've been wanting to get a PDA for a while, and Christmas is the perfect time. All I'm wondering is, what do you have and/or recommend? Should I even get one? I've taken a look at this iPAQ from HP, and it looks pretty functional, but I also saw some Treo cell phones at the store and was wondering if anyone has tinkered around with those as well (I'm not sure if I want a chunky PC cell phone, but still...).

I was additionally looking at Dell Axims (such as this one), but I havn't ever been a big Dell fan.

I kind of want to be able to play music and videos, and have some sort of Outlook organization program, but as for games, I'm not sure what's available, or rather, what I should be looking for  :|.

Well, that about sums up my research, hope I'll get a few recommendations,

Wow, that is quite the choice, here's my opinion on the matter.

I believe that either choice could end in a positive outcome. However, one of the choices is pretty selfish.

Abandoning your current company would probably annilate any and all loyalty/friendship ties with your boss; your boss would end up with a destroyed company leading to the termination of many employee's jobs, and you would end up with a dream job with 4x pay.

Stay with your company, (assuming you finish this critical project), and the opportunity for your dream job disappears but your current company gets a boosted reputation and everyone in the company keeps their jobs.

It would probably be good to get the Japan job, while still have enough time to finish your project (or train someone would would be able to finish it) and leave the company with some decent support.

P.S. I don't think that Janitor is a bot, just a random poster with purple text ~.^ -- unless bots can post topic relevant information...can they?

Completely Unrelated / Slow Window Refreshing -solved-
« on: 2006-09-03 23:18:58 »
I recently reformatted my hard drive, when much to my dismay, I found that when I dragged windows about the screen, they seemed to lag. In firefox, scolling down is also "laggy"... I'm thinking there is a problem with the window refresh rate, not the moniter refresh rate which is causing this to happen (videos work fine). I'm not sure how to fix this, any ideas?

(This did not happen before the hard-drive was wiped)

Thanks.

PS: I have an nVidia GeForce graphics card

I hope by "the related patch" you didn't mean the AnimeVamp patch...

Try wiping off your disks so they are fresh and clean. That solved a lot of my "random crash" problems.

Are you talking about the power jack in the back of the console? If so, to fix it, simply take a pair or needle-nosed pliars and pinch the two pins together so they are touching or nearly touching. Make sure they aren't touching the ground plate on the bottom.

Krylon makes some new paint that adheres to plastic , BTW.

Yep, Krylon Fusion, using it at the moment  :-D.

--As for the glossy finish, that's really easy, simply wet down the plastic casing and rub very fine sandpaper on it until the SNES texturing is ground off. When painted it's almost as shiny as glass, but it fingerprints easily.

The creator of Ctrl-Alt-Delete comics once deleted his external hard drive partition, and lost his comic archive. He recovered it with this tool, which he swears by.

Just go to google and type "file recovery"

Also, what are you trying to acheive? Some kind of pimped out snes?
I want to have the coolest SNES on my block. Right now I'm trying to get ahold of some plastic-friendly paint that won't mask the SNES's texture.

Bump! Alriiiight... back on topic!

Current SNES state: Frigg'n awesome

So far, I've purchased a broken SNES on ebay for parts, 2 hexagonal GameBit tools (Nintendo really didn't want people opening up the system easily!), (1) 5V blue LED, and some washers. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so I'll share 5000 words with you  :-D! The pictures are somewhat blurry, because my workspace was dark and the camera had trouble focusing.

Original red power LED... it was an um, pain (understatement), disassembling the SNES.

After un-soldering the red LED, I replaced it with the blue one I bought at Radio Shack.

My neat and tidy workspace

The one I bought on ebay...

Its current state...

After finally putting all the pieces back together, I decided to put phillips head screws in to hold th console together, instead of the flower-shaped ones it came with. I salvaged some perfect fits from the motherboard of the broken SNES! w00t.

Tune in next episode: eXtreme paint job!
