(FF7) SFX 'strange' problem
« on: 2004-02-13 00:24:54 »
Hey everyone,

Running FF7 (french version), there isn't any SFX in the game.

here i'm gotta put my config, hoping that we could fix this issue on FF7

So, what's my computer like ?

Config:
---------
P.2,4GHz (asus P4T533C motherboard)
1024mb mem
GeForce 4 Ti 4200
Audigy sound card
Win XP pro

all with latested updates (i hope so)

What's my FF7 like ?
-------------------------
FINAL FANTASY VII french (original)
PATCH ff7betap1 (correct the black screen issue, or inverted screen issue, I do not remember ) )
PATCH Nvidia (1.02)
..followed by..
PATCH XP 1.4 (multi-languages for French)

What's my FF7 configuration menu :
Sound
i can choose between
- SB Audigy Audio (D800)
- Audio integreated Intel(r) (sorry its a litteral translation from french)

MIDI
driver - SB Audigy Synth A (D800)
- data General MIDI
- data Soundfont MIDI (doesnt work)
- Yamaha XG MIDI
driver - Synth software SB Audigy (D800)
- data General MIDI
- data Soundfont MIDI (doesnt work)
- Yamaha XG MIDI
driver - SB Audigy Synth B (D800)
- data General MIDI
- data Soundfont MIDI (doesnt work)
- Yamaha XG MIDI
driver ES MIDI SB Audigy (D800)
- data General MIDI
- data Soundfont MIDI (doesnt work)
- Yamaha XG MIDI

driver Synthetiseur software Microsoft
- data General MIDI
- data Soundfont MIDI (doesnt work)
- Yamaha XG MIDI
(with this one I can change Logarithme control volume)

ISSUE
When I run the game, i got NO SFX.
In the CONFIG inside the game, at the 'sound', it says on the first 'volume controle' (music)
- NOT SUPPORTED
and at the second controle, SFX is 'on'
- 100% and decreasing the volume DOESN'T affect the volume.

..well..

here it begins

Thx to all of you,
Mandrahgora

WELL WELL WELL

..after the strange problem about the sound of FF7 that works on configuration tests, but not 'inside' the game, i just discoverd something new :

As i said, the issue is strange, because it indicates 'inside' the game that MUSIC is not SUPPORTED, (but i can well hear it) and SFX is at 100% but I CAN'T hear it..

So I tried in the configuration to put as DRIVER the 'Synthétiseur Software Microsoft' (see config above)

..and this one now WORKS !

..well, not 'exactly : i got now -'inside'- sound ff7 config a MUSIC volume controle which works !! (first good step) but SFX remains still, even with the volume controle bar at 100%.

..FF7, here we come

The fix on Win98 was to load up the...oh, I forget...

ummm.....
Audio somthing.....
Audio.....Compression?

Anyway it used to be in the Add/Remove Programs, in the Windows Setup tab....in the multimedia section....it was the first option to load.

But in WinXp? It's not there. But unloading and loading would fix Sound problems with FF7, way back when.

This isn't a cracked copy, is it? It's the original? (FF7Platinum, or the orginal orignal?)

Maybe you should try it without all the patches.....if the sound works then...then one of the patches is screwing it up.

nope, I havent found any 'compression' in the audio config for XP in sytem from my Windows

My FF7 is the normal version

I reinstalled my sb audigy player, even FF7, and just installed the nvidia patch from cloudstrife site, as only patch for the game.

still no effects.. :-(

The Animevamp XP patch overwrites your GM.dls file (comes with Win XP and resides in \WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\ ) with a modified version to give better MIDI playback with the Microsoft Software Synthesizer, but this seems to also affect MIDI playback with other devices (I also had cases when I couldn't hear anything while a synth driver other than Mirosoft's was selected). Try uninstalling the XP patch (and hope it'll restore the old GM.dls) and use the Riva and Chocobo patches instead. See if that helps.

First of all, removing the Animevamp patch if you have it installed is a good idea.  But I don't think it'll restore the GM.DLS, you'll have to do it yourself (you can get GM.DLS off of your Windows CD, there are other topics on the forums about this).  But, a messed up GM.DLS should not be affecting the regular sound effects.

You're right of course, it shouldn't affect the sfx. I referred to the fact that without selecting Microsoft synth he couldn't hear MIDI. I have no solution for the sfx problem.
