I remember Nori saying in a post once, something along the lines of how reports in Japanese gaming mags were often exaggerated, or false (in the thread with the supposed "FF7-2" images).

Is there anything official on this? It looks pretty damn good...  :)

i understand ur caution
but it is from a japanese magazine and there is valid FMV screens,
with ur typical Squaresoft "far east asian look" main character there.
It comes in line with Squaresoft's OFFICIAL rerelease of Front Mission: Gun Hazard on to the PSX (from SNES), and Front Mission 4 onto the PS2.

The chinese characters read

"Completely Remade DVD Arrives!"

But that's pretty much all I can read since there's not enough kanji on the page.

P.S. - It's most likely going to be movie since this page says so :P
http://www.the-magicbox.com/game092503a.htm

And I do mean kanji because I kanji characters are Chinese characters and I can only read Chinese characters.

u mean theres too much kanji, and not enough kana (katakana, hirgana) characters,
I know if there was more katakana I d have worked some of it out myself :)
btw, i see the bottom shot (showing shep after killing aeris)*spoiler there*
says about the original that was released in 1997. and something about 300 millions copies sold? (just guessing that one)
Maybe they put that there as a comparison, the new version is different even in the field screens?

It's 3 million. The character after the 300 means "10000"....

Besides if it's 300 million copies.... that'd be a real record.... wouldn't it?

ok not 300 million then
saint: theres nothing but an add there :P
btw: notice at the bottom of the picture it does only say DVD and not PS2, and the source looks to be Shonen Weekly, which if im correct is a reliable source.
Having a film names FF7 would drag any FF critic to the cinemas :)

The page doesn't say much in the ways of facts, only things about it being a big thing, and how they think of it as a must-see. Also something about completely original image software? The yellow text in the middle says "See the very latest images beyond the game!" (as in what happened afterwards). MagicBox's info about it being a movie seems quite correct.

PS. I hate Japanese journalism.

man i've just heard about this today...(they're talking about it on the polycount boards) enough to warrant a return to the "FF7 Qhimm forum flock" after a few months "tenure"....good to be back...this is something to look out for...i just hope it's a game...and not a movie....

anyone notice how Cloud's new outfit resembles Aurons?

and what's this about Squaresofts "far east asian" looks? Cloud looks like your typical prettyboy caucasian to me....nothing like "oriental mix" Tidus of FFX fame..

tidus did look alittle more western then cloud does
comparing cloud to the FF7 psx fmv and to cloud n Kingdom hearts where he really did look the part (except for that flourescent blond hair)

You're right, Giffen. The picture of him standing on the beach or whatever really reminded me of auron. The way he was holding his sword, mostly, though.

That picture of Cloud rules, man if they only had this kind of technology back when they made ff7... Ah, this makes me want to play ff7 again, and I think I will do just that. :)

from what i've discerned, it will be a released DVD, set two years after the game, not a game, and not a remake.  if it will be a feature length movie, or what, i haven't heard yet.

btw, sephiroth now looks like a chick.  And Cloud looks more asian than he did in any of the games to date.  Also, his buster sword seems to have been shrunk

i just hope Barret, Tifa and the others make it to this "upgrade" movie, game or not....man, can't wait for their realistic renditions.....Vincent would probably look soooo damn cool!! Unless he's not included coz he was an easter egg in the 1st game.... -_-

p.s.

im seriously doubting its a movie based after the game.
why?
The clips shown are similar to those from the game:
Cloud looking at midgar (which wont exist after the game)
- similar to the scene when he arrives at midgar after Zack is killed
Sephiroth in the fire
- come on, the flash back scene in nebilheim (*speeling)
dont recognise the rest

Damn, you know what?  They've been holding on to these titles for quite a while, and seems like they're going to have continuous sales.  First FFXI is due this october, after that it's going to be KH2 and the other KH game, then FFVII:AC, then FF12.  Yeah, they're going to earn bank in the next 2-3 years.

Edit:  Cadberry: Yeah, I know they're going to be making bank, but lately (as of the past 2-3 years) they haven't released many games.  It's like they decided, "well, let's have all these games ready to sell almost at the same time", and BAMM, an avalanche of money.
