This thing is almost dead
« on: 2003-08-09 01:37:55 »
i've always been around FF7 sites, especialy this. After long time i've figured out that this thing got to change... i don't know how many of you is thinking the same way but i've worked for 2 years and a half for the italian FF translation.

I was thinking... lot of people worked on this game... and lot of skilled programmers worked on giving life to all of the programs we can find on the new around FF7. Maybe it's time to put all that work together and change things a little bit.

I was thinking that maybe this site (or a new one) can be changed (created) containing all sort of documents about the FF7 files formats and open source programs to change/add/modify things in the game.

Who is with me ?

Maybe i'm just crazy... but could work...  :wink:

Go to Ficedula's Website, co-hosted by Aaron, and you will find many-a resource for your italian translation project. You are using Ficedula's Cosmo program for this translation, correct? It's probably your best bet in doing anything.

Jeez...two years..

Pardon my avatar. It is officially "Freak Week" for myself and Mofokubik

I'd gladly host all of the documents on my website. As soon as I get some better hosting, that is.

@Rubicant:
You missed the whole point. Read again the post. I'm not searching programs or docs for our translation. We already finished it and we worked hard. Ficedula's program still have problems so we studied by ourselves the game and how it works to write a program to do the job. We know pretty much about it, that's why i would like yo put the work of all the members of this forum like Qhimm, Mirex, Alhex, Ficedula, our and others, togheter.

@Mirex:
I'll apreciate that. All that you know about this game can be useful... any file format or other things.

@Darkness:
Great. I was thinking about something like the Final Fantasy Tactics -- Investigative Project.
With all the infos and stuff...

Even though your post didn't actually declare that you finished the translation project...

Hey everyone, it's been a while when I've been here last time :P.
So, Ombra, you know you can count on me on this project.
BTW. I finished Sapphire - my program to edit dialogs in FF7. Maybe it's slower than Cosmo, it's less functional (It can't preview backgrounds, etc.), but it has few advantages over Cosmo :
- It's not messing up music when you edit file,
- It can edit files that Cosmo can't (tin_1 for example)
- Game doesn't crash, etc.

If anyone wants it, I can translate it (It's in polish :P) and send to him ;).

I'm currently working on one feature: Dumping dialogs to text file and reinserting them from a text file created that way. When I finish it, I think I'll publish it (maybe Tomorrow ?).

Edit: Ok, I've finished, and near fully translated it :).

Download and tell me what you think. And if you find some bugs, let me know, ok ? ;).

Edit2: And here's some sample of my prog in action :D. The famous tin_1 translated:

There is a polish translation coming along?
If yes gimme all the Sephiroth's dialogue to translate, I once had great fun trying to translate it into Polish so it would sound the cool Sephiroth way.. ^^''
Anyway - I can help out if there is something to do with translating.
