The change you made from last page makes the blade look better but the wrist guard and handle in the newer one feels less soft.

127
The blade looks damn near bloody perfect! :-o
I would love everything except :-X the handle has a mist around it.  I personally don't like it.  It doesn't seem very flowing with the picture as a whole more just an extension of the sword.  It's also too bright and blue.  I think it would look better without it.

Glad I could help! ;D

Oo oo!  I do! I do!  Somewhere let me find the thread real quick.  I shortened up all the songs for proper looping and the guy who made the remastered tracks said it was okay for me to post them.  I'm not sure if the upload is out of date but if it is I can re upload.

EDIT:  Here's the thread.
Titeguy threw together a good guide if you want to really smooth out ff7music.  The link is about halfway down the first post, if the link's dead tell me.

Hey sl1982 I got my first laptop (Lenovo Ideapad Y550p) and it kicks ass 9 ways to Sunday and I plan on making an FFVII install using the GUI overhaul as one of many mods but I'm tied on which version I should use.  My screen resolution is 1366x768.  A conventionally uncommon resolution and 16:9 at that.  I think this falls under your category of "low-res" but I wanted to make sure before I committed a download and install and also for future reference.  So what say you?  Low-res and preserve the aspect ratio in the settings?

Holy crap!  You would have saved my life when I had a similar issues on my desktop's last partition.  What I did was delete my linux partition the wrong way from my windows partition.  Idiot me I realized after the fact that grub was my bootloader and linux my primary partition effectively locking my hard drive from any boot.

Hmm a mod like this could work very well with the Reunion patch which seems to be getting quite a bit of attention recently.

I understand that, but before they put it onto the playstation disks the artists MUST have had a higher quality image.

What I meant by the downsizing was when they were in production the artists must have made a much larger image then shrank it to save disk space even though the trade off of a small amount of disk space for shoddy quality was p dumb.

The same goes for the wav files.  I mean if they just had multiple install disks and saved most of the game onto the computer like most current day PC games all of these problems could have been solved.  I assume the higher ups said make it for playstation and port it to pc as an afterthought.  Quite sad. :'(

More than likely diskspace but in retrospect it seems like they made a lot of mistakes when developing this.  I mean even at their base resolution the backgrounds look much worse than the originals must have.  Also pictures don't take up THAT much disk space they could have decided to not downsize the images since most monitors were bigger than those background image sizes anyway.  Idk I just feel that this game lost a lot of its graphic and audio potential in the packaging process.

I'm still on the fence on whether to believe this vid.  There are some pretty amazing statistical algorithms out there but the video doesn't seem too incredibly believable.  We'll have to wait for CS5 I guess.

The reason I found it pertinent is because upscaling and using fractals tends to produce blurry images, but using this type of technique on the image multiple times holds the hope for decent restoration.  Of course it won't ever be as good as remodelling and retexturing everything.  I'm just looking to find a way to save the artists a ten thousand hour job.  ;D

I don't mean to bump but could you upload to another site?  Mediafire stays on the "processing request" screen for me.

I use these and they're very cool but be careful when using them.  They take so long to load that if you run FFVII and start a new game immediately the game will crash at the first battle.  You have to wait a minute or two before starting a new game.  At least in my experience.

Slightly off topic but:
http://thenextweb.com/lifehacks/2010/03/24/blow-sneak-peak-photoshop-5/

This just blew my everlovin mind out of the water.  I think if someone bothers to buy this they'd have the opportunity to rework the original images with decent final products.

Saaaahhhweeeettttt
I think I may have used those when I first came here, but cloud's sword looked a little silly and the shiny bodies were a turn off.
Was there ever a mod that Just took the battle models and converted them to field?

Ah nvm, just checked the first link lol.  THANKS, I'll see how these look.

Shoot, it needs a fresh menu.lgp.  Looks like I'll be re applying the GUI overhaul and menu art mod lol

Ok this is turning out to modify more than one lgp and it wants the originals to work on.  I don't want to end up completely remodding my FFVII instal, does anyone have the extracted field lgp changes that would be made? ;D

Reunion...

That was long before my time but that's the mod that replaced field models with the battle models correct?  Is there anyway I could get a hold of that now?  No offense to the artists but I prefer the way the battle models look to the PRP main characters.

Oh my wow.  I don't remember what fills those white spaces?  Does the game run an animation behind it?

I think the admins should make a bot user that automatically responds when they detect certain words in early posters.  Namely: ultima, pirate, problem, etc.
It replies immediately with a post outlining rules and the situation the forum is in playing under the twitchy trigger finger of a large corporation and to read the rules thoroughly and adhering to them strictly before posting again.

I just don't get all of the hostility.  So there's a pirated copy mentioned here, it doesn't need to be met with flames, just ignore it.  Mods won't work on it and they'll find nothing in this community worth using or working on.  You can be a white knight and all and that's great but pretty soon you'll be pushing away possible future contributers who were just wanting to play their favorite game but wanted to get out of paying 100 dollars to have it on PC when they already bought it for the playstation twice.

You can have morals on piracy but the game has long since been out of production, meaning there are ZERO royalties being paid to ENIX and the developers.  It's just legalities that do play a somewhat necessary role that make pirating this game taboo.  Basically:  follow the rules to keep this site from being shut down, but don't go out of your way to be an unhelpful ass to newcomers who may not know all of the rules.

Ok he pirated, but he can't do any modding with a pirated copy and yes there are moral issues but the integrity or legal security of the site isn't at sake quit riding his ass.  Good luck in your research, you'd be surprised how much has been accomplished in the past year using aali's driver and the hard work and will of the members here.  I'd say 90% of everything is redone save battle models and areas and field textures.  The only one you'd notice though is the field textures which are being worked on very hard by Team Avalanche but there's a lot to be done there.

For starters:  get aali's driver and learn the ropes of his lgptools, ask around in a few threads, experiment, etc.
After that I highly recommend GUI overhaul found in the Team Avalanche forum.  After that there are smaller (but still incredibly awesome) mods like millenia's weapons, the superawesome cloud and barret battle models, and of course, the NPC PRP.

Other mods to look at:  ff7music (takes a bit of doing to make it run smoothly),  bike mini game redux, full screen start menu by nero, icon redux, and the diamond weapon redux

I would like to try this method if you make a release to compare for myself.
Someone posted some originals and it works WONDERS on edges on trusses and ladders but the consoles and detailed areas get muddied.
Has anyone tried going into photoshop and using different techniques on different parts of the background?

Ah, I was just wondering if he was just going to leave the sheet metal that matte gray.  Well then it looks  :o amazing
