PS-PC USB2.0 Convert V

Trying to use a PS1 controller on FF7.  I'm using a PS-PC USB 2.0 Convert V as my adapter.   I went into Control Panel-> Game Options.  I selected my device check out all the buttons and they all responded, but when I go into FF7 only the keyboard works.  Any tips on how to fix?  Do I need to have Directx 5?  I'm currently using Directx 8.1.  Thanks.

No one has a clue whether Directx 5 has to be installed to use Joypad?

This is a tad oldish but iv'e just come across it. I use a controller similar to that of PS2 Dual Shock in usb port of version 1.1(USB 1.1) and soon to be using USB 2.0 with my new motherboard and i had no problems.

I don't use an actualy playstation controller though and i use DirectX 9.0c. Should just buy a cheap controller for the pc like i did and it has the same button layout as ps2 dual shock.

I remember I had this problem the last time I tried to play FFVII.
Gave up in the end.

However, I'm sure there was mention of some people working with Psx adaptors fine. Anyone?

I have a logitech dualshock thinger.  Worked great... but then The left analogue stick got pwned after like ,a  month, and now wont work correctly (like, "makes cloud walk to teh left even though im holding it RIGHT kind and so i ahve to reset the software every 2 minutes kind of malefunction)  It sucks =P

to shed a little light... hopefully anyone having this issue, (and has the dual slot converter), tried their playstation controller in the other slot.

i just bought a converter.  had this same issue for a few minutes until i tried the other slot.    the playstation controller will become usable and the keyboard will not be usable.  all the playstation controller buttons seemed to be programmed to correct buttons (same as psx console) as well.  good deal.

One thing you could try is (if you have a ps3 controller) downloading a program called Motioninjoy, which acts like an interpreter between the ps3 controls and the computer, enabling the use of the ps3 controller as a joypad. I have used this to play both pc versions of final fantasy as well as other games. Just thought I would put this out there so that people with this problem may have a solution. It *may* work with the ps2/psx controls, although I would have thought that the psx-usb port would work automatically. Are you sure it is for PSX controllers and not PS2 controllers, because sometimes the manufacturers may design it for one system only. That may be the issue in this case.

The previous two posts in this thread were about the fact that this thread was necro'd, so you necro it AGAIN? The original poster hasn't even been here since 2005, he won't see your advice.

Not to mention, Motioninjoy is useless for PS1/PS2 controllers. When a controller works in Windows but not in a particular game, the best solutions are usually joy2key, xpadder, or glovepie.
