In fact, they both would have been wrong in that sentence. Unless you're listing things, both sides of a comma have to be a full clause. You can't put the subject on one side of a comma and the predicate on the other side.

Your semicolon in this next post was used correctly, though. Only mistake is that it shouldn't have been capitalized.
