General Discussion / Re: New FF8 Fandub
« on: 2020-11-29 04:37:33 »
After 4 years of work, our Final Fantasy VIII Fandub is finally completed.  34 episodes, over 13 hours of video footage, thousands of lines, 60+ voice actors from all corners of the globe, amateur to professional, voicing over a hundred different roles. We are the first group to ever create a dramatic playthrough of the entire main story of the North American release of the game with a full voice cast.
To everyone on here who followed along, whether you're one of our 900+/- subscribers, or if you were among the 100,000 views who merely poked in to see a snippet or 2 after my constant prodding on here for the past 4 years 😅...I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I now present our final episode, "Fated Children", outlining the ascent into Ultimecia's Castle and the final confrontation with the sorceress beyond time...

Remove the "TEMP" so only the 0/7 remains, then it should compile again. Deling sometimes can't handle it for some reason.

So, to be clear, delete the 'temp' in front of the number.  Then add in the necessary push/pop/opcodes, then compile.  Then re-add 'temp' in front of the number and compile again?

I was editing a script.  I hit compile and got the following message:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Tt-M3Cm7r7FXgDtypp7TTYWe1RKAOu-n/view?usp=sharing

I deleted the change I made and hit compile again, and it gave me the same message.  I've added over a hundred different lines to over a dozen different fields and this is the first time I've seen this.  Maybe it's an issue with the compiler I'm using with how it handles "0"?

(sorry for the hyperlink.  I tried embedding the image a few different ways but couldn't find anything that worked.  Normally I know how but this forum is weird compared to other ones I use)

EDIT: It also does this with TEMP7

FF8 Tools / Re: [PC] Import/export sounds - FF8Audio (1.1)
« on: 2020-07-10 06:02:17 »
Been messing with this lately.  Oddly enough when you load your own sounds in, it plays back really fast when you use 'Play Sound', but when I reextract the wav, it sounds ok (albeit lower quality; but that's to be expected).  It also sounds ok when it plays inside the game, so it's whatever I guess.

There's another issue that's a little more concerning.  I loaded in 2 custom sounds at ID 10641 and 10642.  I then loaded in 9 more sounds at 10643 - 10651.  I went back and added descriptions for each of these files so I wouldn't have to painstakingly go through them to remember what they were. I then added 5 more sounds from 10652 - 10656.  The instant I did that the descriptions for 10643 -  10651 got deleted. It didn't delete the sounds though.  But at the same time this happened, the descriptions for 10641 & 10642 were left untouched.  So that's an annoying bug. I had to go back and re-add all of those descriptions.  I'm gonna try to avoid symbols and just stick to text, and maybe put some gaps in-between mass imports once I do my next batch, but if it keeps doing this, the descriptions column might be completely unusable.

EDIT: I realized after returning to my project many months later that I had simply left sound files in the import folder while trying to add more.  So anyone who uses this, just keep in mind any time you replace or re-import a sound, it'll erase any notes/descriptions you included in that cell for the old sound (which makes sense why it would do that, but just a heads up since it's an easy mistake to make).

So I was editing field.fs for a potential mod, and put in a code that didn't agree with another code and it crashed the game.  When I located the area of the field where the game crashed I couldn't remember 100% how to revert it back to the original script. I'd made a backup of the og 'field.fs' thinking that I could swap the two out inside of 'lang-en' if need be, take a look it at the original in Deling to figure out what I did, and then swap the 'field.fs' I was working on back in and go from there.  When I tried loading up the original field.fs I was surprised to find that Deling couldn't open it.  Well, it opened but it could only show the file list under Import/Export. It wouldn't actually show me any of the texts, scripts etc.

I suppose I don't fully understand the nature of the program.  I tried opening up the original(backup) in the folder where I have it stored and it wouldn't open it at all (that tells me the location of the files inside the folder structure is important to their functionality within Deling).  I'm a little worried about screwing something up and not being able to revert back to an earlier version...or maybe there's a way to do that but I'm not sure how?

Episode XXXII & XXXIII released.

We decided to release 33 as a giant episode instead of a 2-parter, so next episode (34) will be the grand finale.  It's been 3 1/2 years...it'll be sad to see it end but it's still a great accomplishment.

I love Christian's Squall.  Christian and Aarlyn Adams (our Quistis) did a video together last year that I thought was one of the more well done FF8 fan voice vids in recent years.

That's the real trick with projects like this.  Finding someone who's willing to work for free, and is also willing to commit 50+ man hours over the course of several months recording well over a thousand lines of dialogue (several thousand with retakes).  That's hard to do for someone who's got a bunch of other things lined up (jobs, kids, etc.).  That person has to be in love with the project and connected to Squall's character enough to want to commit to that.  It also helps if they're a college kid and not a full blown adult with an adult life and adult job.  That's a big reason Shudo's original project fell apart.  Other bigger things got in the way as everyone got older.

Zach Scott (the Squall for the Youtube FFVIIIFandub project I'm helping out with) isn't my favorite Squall voice I've ever heard.  Frankly we didn't have any Rupert Scarrs or Christian Sekhanans or Dylan Kelleys audition for him back when we first started.  He was the best who auditioned and he's pretty good (his voice grew on me throughout the project) and has a good mic, but more importantly, he sticks with it and turns his lines in, rather than going completely AWOL on due dates and doesn't think he's too "internet famous" to contribute to the group chats like some of these younger, Twitter-dwelling voice-actor hipsters out there I've had to work with 😒.

I've talked a little about it with TsunamiX....It's a project he wants to see happen eventually, though he's pretty bogged down with his own FF7 mods.

I'm all for it. Most of my cast is interested in doing it (and those that aren't would easily be replaceable for this new project...We've built up a fair network of VAs). And I have people who'd be willing to do a lot of the leg work as well to see it happen, but we simply lack the know-how. I would start work on a voice mod tomorrow if I had someone with the technical knowledge to put the voices in the game.  Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I don't think the ones with that  knowledge are necessarily ready to just give it away to some guy.  I'll say to those people 'we might be able to work something out'....so hit me up :).

Episode XXX and XXXI released!

We're heading towards the end.  I just finished recording game footage up to the gate of Ultimecia's Castle the other day.  Pretty surreal experience after working on this project for 3 years.  Episode XXXV (35) will likely be our final episode.

Episode XXII & XXIII are out.  Ep23 actually continues where Shudo Ranmaru's dub ended several years ago, so we're understandably pretty excited to have gotten this far, as no other fandub has.

Trabia is next and should be up by the end of the month and the Disc 2 finale will follow in the near future.  Hope you'll stick with us to the end.

Bump.

Episode XVIII and XIX released.  The team is split up, Selphie leads Irvine and Zell to the Galbadian Missile Base to stop the missiles, while Squall takes Rinoa and Quistis back to Garden to warn everyone.  Work is well underway for Episodes 20 and 21, which will hopefully be out in the next couple weeks.  Thanks again to all who have watched and supported us.

We're currently working on Episode 17, but we need to recast our Irvine.  If you're interested in auditioning you can audition on our Casting Call Club page (account required), or send an MP3 to our Facebook group page.  We would like to pick our new Irvine by this Sunday 1/7.

Bump.

North American hurricane season has delayed our release schedule significantly...Our Selphie is from Puerto Rico and the situation there has unfortunately made submission of lines an extraordinary challenge.  Hopefully we'll be back to a regular pace soon.

We're very happy with the positive response this series has gotten. 200+ subs 450+ cumulative likes and 11K+ cumulative views.  We appreciate everyone's continued support, and of course invite the curious to check us out.  There's a long term goal of transitioning this project into a voice mod as well.

Anyway, for now, Episodes XV and XVI have been released.  Enjoy :)

Bump.

Episode XIII and XIV uploaded.  Episode XIV is our Season 1 (Disc 1) finale and involves the entire Sorceress Assassination mission.  We're very proud of how it turned out! We just got our Young Ellone casted so now it's on to Winhill!

Monthly Bump.  Episode XII posted.

Next up will be Tomb of the Unknown King and fighting the Brothers.  The 2 other dubs on Youtube that made it this far (Shudo's FF8 Voices, and 'VideogameNostalgia')  skipped over the Tomb so we'll be the first to dub it.  Look forward to it!

Episode X and XI posted.  We've now passed the second Laguna Dream sequence (Laguna & Co also took down Diablos).

Next episode we meet Irvine and head off to Deling City.  We're moving right along...we hope to be done with Disc 1 by mid-summer.

Episode IX released. This was quite the undertaking compared to our previous episodes.  Longest episode yet (32 minutes), also contains nearly the entire cast plus a swath of NPCs...

...Oh and we're the first fandub where Adel is voiced....yup, Adel's presence is in this episode ;).

Monthly bump.

Our pace has slowed a bit (personal issues with some of the cast, and technical issues with Youtube copyright strikes) but Episode VIII released today.  This is the episode where Squall runs into Rinoa again after the party/ball, plus the mission on President Deling's train!

Episode IX (Timber Part 2) isn't in post yet but we're currently recording it.  Hope to have it out sometime this month.  Thanks to all the fans of the project who've supported us and we hope to keep on keeping on.
