The FFSF website:

http://ffsf.cjb.net/

It has a "music patch" developed by ficedula....but the package on the FFSF website includes an already-set-up version of FF7Music that will "replace" all of the in-game midis with PSF (playstation sound format) rips from the Playstation version of FF7, thus allowing a more like-the-orginal atmosphere with the OST music. Check it out. It's in the FF7 section of the "soundfonts" section.

Fourth, make sure you have the CORRECT movies. For starters, make sure you have "opening.avi" and that it's a 25,973 kb file. If it's not that size, it WONT PLAY. FF7 is VERY picky about what types of files it plays.

Actually, Emperorsteele, that's not 100% accurate. If his avi files are messed up, he can actually try playing a very short avi file that is in the correct format. I just replaced mk8.avi (the explosion of the bomb at the beginning of the game) which is like 3 seconds as the opening.avi, and the game still started out fine. Since he DID bootleg the game, we can't exactly legally help him as of now, such as replacing his files for him. We could link him to a dummy .avi file that he could replace bad ones with.

But yeah...sounds good...

Steele, you're probably right in some respect, but I think that the PSX version also had some problems with the camera views being in sync, or at least consise with the FMV's. One example of this I can think of right off the top of my head is the opening video. It eventually goes into the zooming in of the red shinra guys standing by the train station. The soldiers kind of bounce around a little bit as the train comes in. If my memory doesn't fail me, this problem appears in both the PC version and the PS version. I haven't gotten very far in the PS version, so I can't really say whether the problem appears in the Dyne and Barret scene on the PS version. Does anyone know for sure?

Anyways, there's a LGP called "moviecam.lgp" that goes into the movies directory on the ff7 discs (or on your hard drive, whichever way you have ff7 set up). Inside, it contains the "intructions" for the camera movements of every ff7 movie. I wonder if it's possible to mess around with these instructions to gain decent results.  :-?

A fairly decent resource for Nobuo is the site below:

Evidently he liked Elton John, so he started learning piano at age 12. Good musician, I must say.

You have gotten your reminder now. Scoot, asshole.

You're right! However, from the positive posts of other members towards me recently, I was also reminded what a great place this forum is. So I've decided to stay. As you once said...

....unless this is with a Playstation or ePSXe....I don't see how anyone can compare each other's scores. Being that the speed of the games depends on the speed of your PC.

Yeah...true. You can slow down your PC(cpu, vid card) or emulator(fps) to incredibly slow speeds and get a superhigh score. Doesn't mean we can't compete with sheer numbers :D

I just watched it. Not what I expected, but I guess it's the basic plot of the game in four minutes. I thought you were going to have some sort of orginal footage, rather than a clip show of the ff7 fmv's. It was edited quite well, I must admit. The music also went with it, too. Although not exactly the most consise tribute to FF7, it is much better than some of the stuff that was shown in a recent independent film show I went to. Good job.

8/10

Corn rows...nice...

CGI people look quite cool these days. The only drawback is that it looks so perfected that you can tell it is CGI (most the time)...ah well.

9
Looks pretty cool. First time I've seen Vincent in a pre-rendered state; coolness. I had no idea his nose actually had some sort of width :P

Boy, I hope this one doesn't end up being terrible like Spirits Within. Does anyone know if it'll be sold outside Japan?

Archive / Problem installing FF7
« on: 2004-05-12 00:52:58 »
I don't know if registry entires will hurt FF7's operations to that degree. However, you can have this copy of the registry I use to reinstall FF7 (dog chewed up my install disc).

Here it is: FF7.reg

It works if FF7 is installed in "C:\program files\final fantasy VII\"
The movies will have to be located in "C:\program files\final fantasy VII\movies", but you can change that if you run the movies off the CD. Good luck.

This definately is not what how one would expect to "extend" the storyline of FF7. Things definately have taken a turn for the worse since Squeenix emerged. You're right, Contra; they're milking it until the cow dies.

I all else fails, blame dx9. It has always in some way messed up FF7pc for me.

Archive / No sound effects in ff7 (win2k)
« on: 2004-05-06 01:04:52 »
I dunno if this'll help...but I noticed something while modifying the registry components of ff7. In the "sound" key, there's something called "Sound_GUID". I deleted the entire thing and when I opened up ff7config.exe, there was a blank slot in where there was to be a sound device. In other words, there was no sound device selected. I started FF7, and sounds played anyways, even though no device was "selected". So I'm assuming it picks the primary sound device. Maybe it's possible that the sound drivers they are using won't work with ff7, or else they installed DX9 which words "wonders" against FF7pc.

Because whenever i try to open one of the avi files in the movie directory i only get a black screen in the mediaplayer ( this is for all the ff7 avi files, not only the boogstar.avi) The play indicater does move to the end and indicates it played 2 out of 2 seconds.

Threesixty, did you have this same problem when your ff7 was crashing in those scenes?

« on: 2004-05-05 00:31:23 »
I'm going to download a trial version of PowerDVD to see if I can make FF7 screw up at the cosmo canyon. I shall report my (terrible) results later.

[EDIT]

"Unfortunately", FF7 did not crash after installing PowerDVD 5.0 (trial). I checked to see if an audio codec was installed, and there was:

CyberLink Audio Decoder, CyberLink Corp.,   CLAUD_TRIAL.AX

Well, it's not the same exact audio codec..but it was worth a try. I'm starting to think that maybe audio codecs have nothing to do with the problem.

I think we may be looking in the wrong area for answers when it comes to video codecs. The movies included with ff7pc are all in Truemotion 2.0. When the movies play in ff7, IIRC all filters are removed so that a raw compressed file is played. If we were to delete tm20dec.ax, the ff7 movies are unplayable in windows media player. However, they still are playable in ff7. I can't really determine what that means.

I think it may have something to do with sounds as threesixty has been telling us for the longest time. As far as the audio in the ff7 movies are concerned, it is 22050 Hz 8-bit uncompressed. I really don't know the mechanics of the extra sounds from the LGP's being played during the fmv's, so all I really can provide at the moment is some facts.

17
This is too cool. The system of putting objects together in the ff7 engine is quite sweet. Look at this stupid mixed ensemble I made. The truth of Vincent is revealed! An eyeless reno clone with tifa's chest model and part of sephiroth's hair. Look out!

Pretty much all of the animations work. The head of reno is offset and shrunk into the cape (funny looking), but I'm actually surprised it worked.

18
Actually, I got a little off-track in my post. Thanks for helping me clear that up, Jari.

I was talking about the original FF7 being ported by a profit-aimed company to other consoles, not the fan port. The plan is to make it open source; selling that wouldn't go over so well.

19
Re-coding the FF7 Engine...isn't that what Ficedula is attempting to do with FF7 Remake? I think it's a good idea to try it, actually. It seems a bit useless to redo just the graphics engine considering emulators can already have high-res gameplay. However, if you're going to redo so much to the point where mods can be (easily?) made for the game, there will be a HUGE payoff. However, there would have to be massive format changes. The first figuring out .P files 100%, then converting them to be usable with the new engine. Lots of people have made progress there. It won't be an easy task, period.

As for porting it to a console...that's crazy. Isn't there licensing preventing Xbox or GC from selling FF7 on their consoles?

20
Well, the models come with .tex files, which contain all of the eyes and mouths that would appear on the models. I haven't screwed with 3DSMax in a long time, especially with ff7 models, but as far as I know you'll have to paste the textures onto the models manually.

21
Well, it's possible to look on the little chart (I believe Alhexx made. Sorry if I'm wrong) that depicts what all of the .p models actually are. I suppose I could try to extract them for you, but you'll have to work them with Mirex's biturn yourself. I'm just not ready for that kind of a relationship.

I'll see what I can do.

[EDIT]

Okay, I extracted them. They're still in their "raw" format. You'll have to download biturn and convert them to 3ds yourself. This is it.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Xenogears translation
« on: 2003-12-09 08:09:15 »
I don't know about an in-game translation, but on Gamefaqs there are scripts of the game. What I'm thinking is involving you downloading the scripts and translating them to French with a translator program. The ones listed below seem very well-done, as immense of a game that Xenogears is.

Xenogears Script - Disc1 (created by Sheamon, hosted by Gamefaqs)

Xenogears Script - Disc2 (created by Sheamon, hosted by Gamefaqs)

Happy reading, if you dare. Also, I'm hoping that you'll find an in-game translation of the script to make things easier for such an amazing story.

Hope this helps.

You will most likely also need ASM disassembler knowledge, too.
