Game crashes while loading main menu

I thought I followed the instructions pretty closely but I just can't seem to get the game to launch.

Initially I got the code 5 error but I followed the fix suggested on this forum.  Now the game will launch, but it plays the opening FMV at a HUGE resolution and then crashes when attempting to load the main menu.

I launched the vanilla game and created a save in every single save slot available so that shouldn't be the problem.

I was able to get the opening movies to display correctly by changing the High DPI scaling override to Override->Application in the FF7_bc.exe compatibility options, but the game still crashes while attempting to load the main menu.

Edit: Nevermind, you did... what's it say in your APP.log?

Edit 2: Hmm, you did that too... not sure what's causing the issue.

Have you made sure you set your sound drivers settings right, that seems too be often the case for it crashing on start up.
