Audio Mods / Re: Final Fantasy VII - Omnislash sound fix
« on: 2017-06-22 17:03:35 »
The best way to share these things is to either release it as a patch or installer that can be applied to an existing audio.dat or to release the sound effect alone and instructions on how to add it to audio.dat. As a general rule, we don't allow full data files to be shared because in addition to your modded data, they include a significant amount of copyrighted data from the original game as released.

It might be a bit overzealous, but given Square Enix's history of shutting down mods and the fact they haven't taken action against this site, it seems to be the right decision.

Porom and Palom are characters in FF4, sister and brother. These nuts could be a reference to those characters, but I'm not sure to what end. Nothing about the properties of the nuts, either physical or functional, has anything at all to do with those characters.

This topic has been moved to Scripting and Reverse Engineering.

The tools board is for release threads, not requests.

Remember what I said in Lein's thread about no more drama? Throwing a tantrum the very next day isn't a good way to stay not banned when I'm already on high alert. I am not ferning around. If you can't behave with maturity, you can't stay. ~Covarr

Completely unrelated / Re: Hello again

You were banned for using autistic as an insult on someone else, for calling someone else a little kid, and in both cases saying you didn't mean it as an insult when you clearly did. You were banned for being generally bothersome and making the forums a more unpleasant place for several other members. And now you're getting banned again for a sockpuppet account.

Lein has done nothing but pick fights with people for weeks, and I simply do not have the patience to deal with it anymore, and no amount of backpedaling and pretending his insults and asshattery were just pointing out facts is going to change that. Ban issued, thread locked.

P.S. As of now, I'm going full hard stance on drama and on the "Don't be a d*ck rule". Don't start strawberries. Anyone. ~Covarr

Reviving a 9-year-old thread? Nope.

It has more of a claim to the FF name than some because of appearing in Final Fantasy Chronicles on the PlayStation.

If you're going to use img tags, you've gotta put the image's URL in them, not the imgur album's URL. I've fixed it for you.

Boy, that makes a LOT more sense. This scene was virtually unintelligible in the original, and even the old Reunion wasn't quite as clear as this.

Enough, you guys. Warnings issues. Drama deleted. Now stop it. ~Covarr

Graphical Mods / Re: Final Fantasy 9: The pure mod
« on: 2017-05-31 13:59:16 »
I have come to the conclusion that the modding community is very unorganized and that people aren't prioritizing the important stuff.
Ultimately, people will work on what they want to work on. Starting threads saying "what you're doing isn't important, do this instead" is going to largely be ignored because:
  • What's important to you might not be the same as what's important to someone else,
  • What's important to you might not be as easy or as fun to work on as what other people are working on,
  • Making mods takes time and energy, and people tend, here and on any modding forum, to respond poorly to folks asking for others to make mods for them,
  • You have openly admitted to using a cracked copy of the game, which is explicitly against our rules, as is helping people who use cracked or pirated copies.

If there's a mod you want made, your best bet is to make it yourself, plain and simple. I'm not exaggerating when I say it would probably be easier to learn how than to convince someone else to do the work for you.

As an aside, I notice you have also mentioned having a legit copy of the game (in which case, why use the cracked version?). As such, if you send me a link to your Steam profile where I can see it on there, I'll be glad to remove the "Pirate" avatar and usergroup from you, with the proviso that you understand even if you own the game you shouldn't use a cracked version because they often cause considerably compatibility issues with mods that work fine on legit versions.

15
I don't think someone will be able to help you since you use a cracked version.
In fact, it is explicitly against the rules to help with, or to ask for help with, cracked copies of the game.

Silicon issued another update?
I wouldn't know I don't use steam, i don't want them breaking the game again.
:o

Confused. Was FF9PC released on another online shop as well?

Hi Dclem,

as said in the PM, I think it would be better to let an admin move this to the sound subporum http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?board=22.0 or directly under audio releases so it gets more attention.

In fact, I'm moving it to Other Mods because it affects sound, graphics, and more. I'm only gonna stick it in audio mods if there's a release that only touches audio.

FFX's modding scene was never really as centralized here as VII and VIII. Far more likely to find info on the Steam forums.

Finally, if you really want the PSX experience, a Gaussian blur needs adding to the above shader.
I mean, if you really want to be authentic to how the art looked in the '90s, you'd need a CRT shader and/or a NTSC (or PAL) signal shader. The emulation community loves that stuff. I'm not sure it's really worth the effort, though.

My no drama warning wasn't just for the other thread. Both of you get a vacation. In the mean time, I suggest you reread the rules, particularly the "Don't be a d*ck" rule. ~Covarr

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Re: [FF9]2016 release
« on: 2017-05-16 15:26:51 »
The drama ends now. I don't want to see another word about this unless:

1. It's dclem changing his mind about releasing his mod.
2. Someone else decides to work on or release a new SFX mod.

dclem, if you're not releasing something, just go ahead and don't release it. If you do decide to release it, go ahead and release it. But leave the reasons why, or who's been giving you trouble, or any of that, all out of this.

the_randomizer85, don't nag. If he releases it, so be it. If he doesn't, so be it. It's his mod, it's his decision to make. And especially don't go giving another member a hard time in an effort to get this released.

I don't care who said what to whom or why. Drama has no place on this board. ~Covarr
