Then you don't need this driver.

Ok then just for curiosity's sake, I've got all of this installed on my laptop with a steam version and this works with no problems. I have the same exact things installed and it works. Any idea why?

Hm. I'm not sure if it's this crap internet or what, but I can't access the download link. Any ideas? It gives ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT every time I F5. On other websites when this happens it usually goes back to normal if I F5 once but I have F5d at least 10 times and nothing...

EDIT: Nevermind, got it. Only problem is that the game apparently runs in fullscreen mode (yeah... I set the cfg to fullscreen = no) and it just displays a black screen and apparently no sound?... I'm using Windows 8.1.

I can help you.

The opening video as well as in-game-videos needs TRUE MOTION Codec 2.0.
You need to get it from internet.

No they don't.  That is not the case when using aali's driver.

Can someone summarize the differences (and pros and cons) of using 0.7.x versus 0.8.x? There appear to be differences around many things like compatibility, 7th heaven, ability to play external music files (ogg/MP3), bugs, config differences, etc., but it always takes a long time to hunt down this info, it's all over the place. Maybe I should hunt this info down and craft a wiki/post and ask Covarr to add it to the forum?

For me, the main pro of the latest driver is the correct fps of minigames and supports ogg music.  The downside is loss of controller function in ff8 if focus lost, and a very annoying error message for every error that can't be disabled (without editing the driver, which I have).

If anyone wants to disable error messages, this should do it

file: ff7_opengl.fgd (0.8.1b only).

Patch: HERE

Password is "error".  This is to avoid false positives by Google (the last time I uploaded a small patch file, they sealed my account off until I removed the file and proved who I was.  Which is pathetic.)

You may also find your antivirus deleting the file for the same reason.  There is no virus.

Are you trying with a fresh install of FF7 with the 1.02 patch applied? Did you install any other mods?

Also:

If you find any issues, please post screenshots, relevant information from app.log and if possible, a savegame.
If you get a crash, provide a copy of crash.dmp and app.log (preferably in a zip archive, this will make it 10x smaller)

Yes it's a fresh install mate and with the patch applied, i could show you the error i get with 7th heaven, it says by means of  Object reference not set to an instance of an object, with a list underneath

Now I'm confused. Are you trying to get Aali's newest driver to work, or 7th Heaven, or both?

If "both", I would recommend changing only one thing at a time, otherwise it's going to be too difficult to troubleshoot anything. In other words, verify whether 1.02 works first, THEN apply Aali's driver and verify it works, THEN try 7th Heaven, etc. If you need help, describe exactly the history of things you did and at which "step" it failed.

If 1.02 worked, then it broke after applying Aali's driver (without any other changes like 7th Heaven), then this is the right thread.

If 1.02 + Aali's driver worked, but 7th Heaven fails, then your question probably belongs in the 7th Heaven thread:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0

By the way, I'm not sure if 7th Heaven supports the latest Aali's driver. I don't have much experience with 7H but I seem to remember some incompatibility issues around textures. If you want to use 7th Heaven, you might to use the older version of Aali's driver, 0.7.x.

Sorry i've been trying to get each of them to work but i haven't been having any luck, the only ones that have worked are the ones you load up separately or exchange yourself through data like the advent children mod or the reunion mod or the ones with .lgp at the end, i haven't been able to get any textures working they make no difference in the game, sorry ive been working on this for a while now and im clueless on to why i cant get these to work, now im getting when im trying to install menu overhaul Aali's custom driver is not installed or installation is broken, may continue but it is recommended you exit until the driver is installed properly.  a webpage should now open to the driver download thread.

I did what you suppose to and in placed in directory reinstalled and tried again but still no luck, ill inquire about 7th heaven later like you say after this thank you.

I believe the game converter automatically installs Aali's driver, though I could be wrong.
You did try using the game converter, right? The one on the 7thHeaven tutorial?

Yes i installed to a non system folder, gotta admit i did find it bit confusing because i'm unsure for certain where the mod path is and whether it can be changed or whether that determines the path or not and what to do with the mods, ill have a run through again and see if there's anything i missed out, thank again for your time and help.

Hi, I do not know if my question is a bit stupid or not, but I'm trying to redo the maps in 3D and I was able to realize that in reality utilsant a mod field we lose light animations etc. , is there a way to reactivate? Besides not inject light into the layers?

No sadly there is no way to replace the light effect layer.
It is broken for PNG in general even a 1:1 replacement don't work.

Thank you for your response Kaldarasha. I still hope that in the future we will find a solution, whether from Palmer or the driver.

Well it could be that Palmer is the issue and doesn't convert the lightlayer correctly.

I doubt this driver is updated anymore, but I wanted to say that I noticed the elemental icons in the card slots on the triple triad board aren't visible with this driver installed.

Could you specify the scene in the game, for I am willing to test it with my PC running Windows10 64bit + NVIDIA Geforce GT330M.
Naming the savepoint <Hers's the name of them http://www.yinza.com/Fandom/Script.html>as well is also helpful to find the scene.

Other problems that exist with the "driver":

1. FF7 Music does not have a small fade out before a new track starts, so there is a clicking sound on new track start.
2. FF8 controller support is lost when focus is lost.
3. FF7 music cuts out when not in focus (it's annoying).
4. Small graphical glitch with ff8?  The hand cursor being transparent in battle.  I can't remember if this is so with PSX.

5. Fields / FMV not centred in screen.  Not a bug, but should be easy to fix.

For number 2, I want to add that since 0.8 I have been lacking any and all controller support to begin with. I'm using a normal USB controller which works perfectly in FF7 but not in FF8.

For number 4, I can confirm that the cursor should not be transparent. It very much put me off when I switched from PS to PC. It makes targeting such an irritating task without the menu because the cursor is barely visible.
