..since the .P files contain the .rsd data.. It would be neat if anybody made an exctractor for these files... .PLY .MAT .GRP and so on... cause i have a plugin that enables you to open .RSD files and their add. files in lightwave...

so...

All I've figured out of the .P file format is based on Qhimm's code, so he knows at least as much (probably more) than I do.

I think his plugin was 3DS, but I don't know whether it works fully or anything like that...

Tulkk: Welcome. I'd urge you to read the following threads on this forum, as they cover the subjects in much more detail:
http://qhimm.3dstream.net/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000007.html" TARGET=_blank>About the .HRC file type...........
http://qhimm.3dstream.net/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000008.html" TARGET=_blank>How about the .rsd file, how does it work?
   http://qhimm.3dstream.net/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000016.html" TARGET=_blank>FF7 geometry format

To give you a summary, the basic structure of the FF7 3D Model (except for the battle/magic format, which we're still trying to figure out) is as follows:
.HRC
|_.RSD
|_.P
|_.A
The .HRC file lists the various parts of the skeleton and positioning info. It can be used to put the model together. You can view .HRC files with any standard Text Editor, and you can view their layout with Ficedula's LGP Tools.

We learned about the .RSD files ages ago. I'm sure you know, but I feel like saying it again    :D. They reference to the Texture, .PLY, .MAT, and .GRP files a model uses. IIRC, the Texture files are only used for the model's eyes. They are in .TEX format, which is a variant of the PSX .TIM.

The .P files are actually the .PLY, .MAT, and .GRP files all squashed and rearranged into one file. Well, Qhimm's plugin itself isn't available for download, but   http://qhimm.3dstream.net/ff7_3d.zip" TARGET=_blank>the source  is.

Quote
It can't handle textures or bone rotation data, but the vertices, polygons and colors are all correctly read.
You can also view .P and .pXX files with LGP Tools.

The .A files are the model's animation info. They haven't been figured out yet.

I would also like a copy of that plug. [email protected]

Additionally, has anyone considered trying to make a PLY2LWO converter? (I'm talking making the poly info into a Lightwave model.)

Yo seph3d  :)
been to ya page... kewl!  :)

I have several tools... i got one plugin for Lightwave that let you load rsd files.. but since the files in the PSX version is very good compressed.. i guess our priority is to diasm the .P files from the PC version to get our hands on the .PLY .GRP and .MAT files..

I also have lot's of registered plugins (by sony, one of the good things you get when registering to Net-yaroze   and I'm willing to share 'em with people who'll help us to import these ff7 3d model suckers into either Lightwave or 3dstudio (i have plugins for both LW and 3ds and they support many formats like .rsd (.ply .grp .mat) .tom .tmd and so on..

so someone exctract the .ply .grp .mat files from those damn .p files please (^^;

I don't think it's that simple. As I've already mentioned, Square really scrambled things when they put them all into the .P files. Mail Ficedula or Qhimm about it.

No, don't email me about it! I've got far too much work at the moment...

Seriously, everything (and I *do* mean everything) I know about .P files is in the document on my website. If what you want to know isn't in there, then I don't know it.

I actually have the RSD loading plug for LW, plus the TIM image importer, but they might be a tad bit old. Anything you have would be a preciated.

Ideally what I need is the mesh data itself. Even if I can get just the point data it will help. At least then I could begin to model Cloud's damn hair. (Harder than hell to freestyle.)

So if anyone can get the raw point info for Cloud's head, I would be GREATLY appreciative!
