FF7 Tools / Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher

No, he's right.  That section took much longer than it should have because I had to do the random spin and try and time it right.  It probably took me a good 15-20 minutes of just spinning and stopping.  But, having to not hold the Cancel button the rest of the 30 odd hours I've put into FF7 so far definitely outweighs those 15-20 minutes.  dziugo's patches have worked wonders for my copy of FF7.

On a side note, I think post needs to Stickied because of all the great patches it contains.  Or perhaps a sticky needs to be created with all the patches in the forum.  Well, maybe not all, but definitely the important ones.  Just my thoughts.

A modified Xbox can run Linux and a whole bunch of other programs.  I was just wondering if people had experimented with it.  I guess I'll have to try.

I know people have been able to run FF7 on their PSP, but how about a modified original Xbox?  I recently picked up an Xbox 360, so my old Xbox is pretty much useless now.  I have FF7 for the PC, and I use my USB Xbox 360 controller to play and everything runs well.  I was wondering if anyone has tried or would be willing to try and run the game from the Xbox?  Basically, I want to mod my original xbox and get FF7 to run on it.  Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

Whacka-Enemy!!!  Seriously, the Smash Hammer looks like the hammer thing on those kiddie games!  Awesome, simply awesome.  I can't wait to use these things.  The chainsaw blade, the Smash Hammer, the helix sword, a lightsaber!  Please, please, please, PLEASE keep up the good work!!

1) I award you -10 points for the lack of capitalization.
2) I award you -15 points for the use of instant message slang... I just hate that crap.

But, since I'm nice, I'm going to try and help you out

1) You probably don't *need* the laptop patch.  Most keyboards have a number pad overlaid on the keyboard.  You usually have to press Fn+Numlock and that will enable your number pad (they are the keys with the small numbers in the top right corner). 
2)  Assuming this works, usually you'll run into the problem of pressing the number pad enter/return key.  This can often be fixed by simply holding down the Fn key and pressing enter/return. 
3) Assuming all of this has worked, you should be playing the game normally.  Since, to me, this is a hassle, simply access the menu, go to config, and then from there you can navigate to the controller section which you can then bind any action to any key you want, meaning if you choose you'll never have to use numlock or Fn+enter again. 

If this doesn't work, then I don't know what will help you.  I'll bet if you ask really nice and use coherent, capitalized, and punctuated language dziugo could make a much better laptop keyboard patch for you.

For those of us that a n00bs with LGP Tools, maybe you can explain which files belong to which character?  I can unpack all the archives, but then I'm just not sure what files to replace because I'm not sure what character belongs to the files.  Other than that, this mod is pretty awesome.  I always thought it would be cool to have Zack replace Vincent, but use Cloud's battle animations, and Vincent's limits.  To me, since Vincent changes to a different model during his limits, then the animation wouldn't be messed up like Sephiroth's are during Cloud's limits.  Keep up the great work!

Perhaps it would help if you told us exactly what patches you have installed, and possibly the order you installed them.  Some of the patches only place nice when installed in certain order, or at least that is what I have found.  Also, installing the video codec from the install CD itself will probably help you.  As far as the crazy frame rate, there are some patches done by dzuigo that can possibly help with that.  Hope you're having fun break back into the game!

I don't really think the goal of recreating weapons is to remain with the "storyline."  What's the fun of adding mods if you have to stay within the story?  For example: Playing as Sephiroth or using Zak.  It's all for fun.  And, who doesn't want to see Aeris wielding a double light saber?

There is no difference, as far as I can tell.  I'm believe the Platinum Edition is more like a "Classic" label.  On the back of my packaging it has pictures of other games like the original Tomb Raider "Platinum Edition."  I think it's just a repackaging. 

But... it does roll of the tongue... Platinum....

So, Barret has a Chainsaw for a weapon, what about the Lancer from Gears of War (the machine gun with a chainsaw attached).

Household items wouild be kind of funny, especially on Cait Sith.  Seeing him a frying pan or spatula would be kinda funny.  Cid with broom, too.

It might be funny to give Cloud a dagger.  He'd still use both hands, but the blade would be really small.

I love the lightsaber, what about Darth Maul's double lightsaber for Aeris (would be sweet) or Cid. 

You could give Yuffie a Spartan Shield, a la the 300.  Also, seeing King Leonidas in the game would be awesome. 

More axes would be cool.  Keep up the great work!

I'm sure they are working on them, and the progress on the models they have done so far are simply amazing.  I'm looking forward to this patch as well!

How is this done?  I think the patch is great!  It's so much better to cast Firaga than Fire3, lol.  I was just wondering if there was a way to customize it?  Like, is there a certain editor you use?  I think I could make up some good spell names if I put some thought into it. 

The patch is great, keep up the great work!

Troubleshooting / Making a Backup Copy of FF7 / Run off the HDD

Hello all:

I've been reading this forum for some time now in anticipation of my copy of Final Fantasy VII Platinum Edition to arrive in the mail.  When it came earlier this week i was thrilled.  I've since downloaded several patches off of this site (or linked to by this site) and I am having a blast.  I love this game, and after getting hooked 10 years ago I'm really excited to play again.  In fact, it will be even sweeter when I complete the game because I was never able to do so when I was first introduced to the game.

But enough rambling.  Like I said, I just got my copy in the mail off of Amazon Marketplace for $65US and some change.  Yeah, I know, crazy for a game 10 years old, but it's a classic and in my opinion worth every penny and then some.  But, since it's so expensive and so old, I really want to make a bunch of backups on different CDs and perhaps one DVD so, just in case I drop a CD and it scratches or my laptop's drive eats one, there will be a spare.  Does anyone know how to make a legal backup copy of the game and get it to run off those CDs?  I know you don't support downloaded games, and this isn't a downloaded copy, so I'm just wondering if people have done this yet, or if it's possible? 

And as an extension of this, is it possible to get the game reading the CDs off the HDD, like the movies?  I've read EmperorSteele's Movie Tweak guide and applied it and it did make the movies infinitely better, so I was wondering if some sort of registry edit would be able to read the CDs off the HDD.
