Well it's all trial and error, processes and software for texture replacement modifications or modifications for FF8 in general are still in very early alpha stages so it's no surprise to see such bugs poping up around this time,
I'm very impressed with how fast FF8 is becoming moddable though
hopefully oneday someone will decode Main_Chr.FS and we can begin replacing FF8 field models and not only the textures.

However I have dones some tests before and it would be possible to replace battle models with entirely different reconstructions.

My tests were using Deling and exporting renaming and importing different battle model files and the effect was Squall became Laguna, Zell became SeeD Exam Zell and Selphie, became SeeD Exam Selphie.

Very interesting stuff to be honest

Oh man the nostalgia, I immediately pictured Aerith " don't step on the flowers!!!!"

Those flowers are so detailed O.O

It's really surprising to be honest that square doesn't just do this with their PC ports of classic FF games,
simply recreate the scenes, animations, character models, textures, UI and fans would actually be satisfied with the quality of the ports

It's really amazing the quality of content the modding community creates, it's just unfortunate that square leaves us feeling it is necessary to spend our own private time patching a game that we paid for

Still wonderful work as always really am loving the detail especially when compared to the original :DD

perhaps I will try to learn blender again then start overhauling the character models in game with more anatomically realistic ones
so we could have character models that fit in with excellent quality environments  ;D

It's actually happening :DD
just wow, amazing work i'm glad I decided to join in on the forums else i'd never have known about this.

You have my respect that's one thing for certain :D

Haha, yeah I havent played with Makou Reactor much myself as with packages like Bootleg I didnt need to do much tedius work within the field LGP's,
however I am quite sure I remember seeing the walkmesh within Makou Reactor with a similar design to how the Walkmesh editor is within Deling for FF8 with extensive amounts of triangles that make up an invisible mesh on the field images

Yeah I can imagine how much work this already is for you especially with the quality standard you are displaying,
I've tried messing with Blender in the past and couldn't use it, the camera controls and general user-friendliness of the programe were a nightmare for me haha
So you have extra respect for getting that programe working with breeze

Just been scrolling through this thread and I am incredibly impressed with the quality of your work.

Also I havent tested it, however isn't it possible to edit the walkmesh via Makou Reactor?
I know you can via Deling in FF8 and quite sure I remember seeing a similar feature in Makou Reactor.

In which event you could do architecturally sound field designs and if necessary adjust the walkmesh c:

To be honest, I never even bothered to play X-2.
I was too disappointed that they tried to milk X further after it was such a masterpiece with one of the most dramatic and satisfying endings within the series.
and they turned Yuna from the shy cute summoner we loved into some sexy gunslinger. Killed it for me to be honest.

I do agree with DLPB that with Squares recent trends, I am concerned that this will be a pretty game with nothing below the surface,
from what I have seen from the gameplay footage,
it would appear the gameplay system is the same as XIII just more polished and refined.

Thanks for keeping us informed by the way, it's nice that there is someone in a senior position who is communicating with the mod community here on qhimm   ;D

Ironically I am a professional actor and could easily do better voices than those (although my voice is not low enough for those characters) and all they have to do is come get me at my desk—I work right there in their own building.
I don’t know what you mean by “access”, but I can assure you it will do no good.
I am in a senior position working as a programmer on this game, but even so nothing I could say would matters because:
#1: Japanese culture.  Game development and movie making are the same in Japan—everything is strictly hierarchical and no one dares question the boss, and the boss never listens to outside influences.  This is why Japanese TV is so bad compared with American TV—in Japan the whole show/movie is just one guy’s idea whereas in America everyone is bouncing ideas off each other and picking the best from the whole group.  Even though Square Enix is less culturally Japanese than some companies, the main people in charge of projects prefer to work this way.
#2: The bottom line is money, and if it does not make sense financially to have both languages on a single disc they simply won’t do it.
How about this?
Newsflash: I have seen private videos we use at our internal meetings etc. and now I want to play the final game even more.

Hmm, well that certainly explains why XIII had very dull gameplay, it's always important in game development that everyones ideas get brought up in my opinion, the end product always ends up better.
I have faith in Hajime Tabata's skills as a director though, after all he did do Crisis Core and Type-0.

The thing I don't understand with the people in charge of organising english voice actors,
is they always seem to go for expensive famous voices and think that's what we want.
Certainly sometimes the actors are good, but most of the times the actors are extremely bad and it makes us want to hate the characters alot of the time, unfortunately most people I know who have seen this recent video of english Dubs already hate Prompto because his voice irritated them,
where as with the japanese actors they thought he was really baddass

I guess i'll probably wait a couple years and see if they bring it to PC, because i don't feel like paying $600+ NZD for a PS4 to play one game especially when the voice actors are bad and being console it is a mission to mod the disc to replace english dubs with the japanese originals

That is unfortunate, I have nothing but time and would be plenty willing to contribute to such an ambitious project

I haven't read the entire thread yet,

but I would be willing to lend my voice to this cause, I have a decent headset with decent mic,
and i've been told my accent and voice are very enjoyable to listen too

Are you referring to Final Fantasy 3 or Final Fantasy 6(Tera,Kefka,etc.)? Either way awesome work man!

FF3 PC port of FF3 DS not the SNES FF3/6

I should note that by looking around in the files i mean just looking at them and by general understanding of how FF game design is done figuring out which files most likely do what, and i think i have a good idea how it's archives work in that respect.

However i have absolutly no knowledge in coding so i cannot decode them,
maybe someone could make a field editor like Deling so we can view what the internal design of the archives is like,
and perhaps a tool similar to Tonberry so we could create texture replacements in 4 x Upscale with handdrawn textures
( this is what i would like to begin doing as i have Photoshop CS6 )

So far I am compiling a list of every version of FF3 songs available and using audio editing software to loop, re-render and recompile a replacement soundtrack for the game.

If anyone here has access, they should inform square to add a toggle-able option of the western release to switch between English and Japanese voice actors, or at the very least add a PC port with those options

13
*sigh* As usual the people in charge of the English voice actors quality control in video games are absolutely incompetent :c

I've been looking around in the files and would love to start working on creating a texture pack for the game
and am currently in the work of compiling a higher quality soundtrack for FF3 PC

Ovcorse square have done their favorite thing and created all the data archives with strange extensions from some faraway galaxy c'''x

Hello, i've downloaded the latest build of PUPU and using Deling extracted the field folder from field.fs
( As i couldn't get unmass or garden to work but essentially this is the same outcome )

But everytime I open PUPU it doesn't show any list of files?
can anyone help me with this, I would like to re-render and edit by hand using Photoshop CS-6 all the games textures
