Title: FF8 seed uniforms
Post by: Juggernaut88 on 2009-10-03 17:18:24
IIRC, on the PS1 version, there was a way to enable you to wear seed uniforms (cadet or graduation ones) throughout the entire game rather than just the regular costumes. I was just wondering if there was any way to do this for the pc version. I know that any sort of modding for FF8 is pretty hard to do, but im kinda hoping that i could just edit a few lines of text or something cause its not like you would need to create any new models, just use the alternate ones in the game.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Was there? I had the psx version and I don't remember that... then again it's been a while since I've played through the game. I do remember there being an option to turn encounters off which was cool.

At any rate, if the models are in the game, they can probably be ripped, but I don't think anybody knows how to rip them as of yet without effing them up... Putting em back in is a whole nother story...

It could be possible to explore the hex contents of the executable and edit a few lines of code....
The problem is that it would probably take you an eternity to decipher which lines of code to edit... and to what.

Yeah, i never had that option for the PS1 version either, but ive read that there were codes for Gameshark, or some similar device. It was just a thought anyway; theres absolutely no way im gonna learn to read hex lol.

Its a pity FF8 is so awkward to mod. Many game companies are happy to help the modding community, but it seems that square are pretty tight about people trying to alter their original games.

Thanks anyway.

I'm almost certain there was no option to change uniforms, so it must have been a Gameshark code. I never came across any normal way of changing the uniforms during any of my playthroughs and I also doubt that such an option could exist and be virtually unknown; someone would have uploaded a YouTube video or made a FAQ on gamefaqs by now.

Also, it's quite rare for developers that focus on console games to support modding; I think those that do are in the minority.

well, in the world of RTS gaming, many games are released with "campaign editors" or something. those can be considered "mods" in a way.

In the PSX version, I used the debug room to get them, but only zell/selphie/squall have alternate clothes.

It's too bad Rinoa can't fight with her dress...

If the different models are all rigged to the same model (eg, squall always to his rig, and rinoa dress, or blue outfit, always on the same rig) then it shouldnt be a huge deal, once the different objects are identified. now i'm not an expert on that part, but the only real stop i can imagine is if the different outfitted characters had diff rigs. (for separate animations, dont see why they would though)
