General Discussion / "Final Fantasy VII Kids!"
« on: 2014-11-15 18:20:45 »

Hey guys, I've been working on some mods and have just uploaded some footage to YouTube of them in action. I'm not currently planning on releasing these, as they use a lot of other modders' work and would be difficult to package without also sharing Square-Enix's copyrighted materials. So I thought I'd just show them off in video form for now.

Hope you find these as cute and funny as I do. Look out for Barret in Part 2. :p

Releases / [FF7PC] Remove snowboarding completely (1.0)
« on: 2014-05-30 13:14:32 »
DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire.com/download/pry5sqmdoo9ytty/RemoveSnowboaring1.0.zip

This small mod when installed will (sadly) remove every instance of the Snowboarding mini-game from Final Fantasy VII. Why would anyone possibly want to do such a thing? Well, unfortunately, we still don't have a way (as far as I know) to mod the snowboarding mini-game and replace its chibi-style character models with better ones. That means that this forum's most popular mods such as Reunion and Tifa's Bootleg all suddenly hit a problem when Cloud starts snowboarding and suddenly reverts to his original blocky model.

One day someone will figure out how to mod this mini-game, but until then this is, I'm sorry to say, the easiest way to ensure that the game graphics remain in a consistent style while playing a modded version of the game. Don't hate me, I love the snowboarding mini-game as much as anyone, it's just a temporary fix. (Note that the motorbike and chocobo racing mini-games CAN and have been modded successfully and so are not affected in any way by this removal mod).

After installation there will no longer be any references to how to control a snowboard in the NPC dialog in Icicle Inn and after the player leaves the map and the NPC shouts "Be careful!" it then fades to black and the player finds themselves lying unconscious at the Great Glacier entrance sign, where-after the game continues as normal.

The Gold Saucer version of the mini-game simply says "Out of Order".

To install:

Extract the zip file and place the new folder in the Final Fantasy VII root directory (where FF7.exe or FF7_en.exe are found).
Double Click on "RUN ME.bat".
Press Enter when instructed.

Releases / [FF7PC] Minor Fixes for Reunion (1.2)
« on: 2014-05-26 22:54:57 »
DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire.com/download/wau6rcwi6t3xmto/MinorFixes1.2.zip

Here's a trio of tiny little fixes for users of Reunion or Bootleg, or anything else which uses the non-chibi models this community has worked so hard on.

For some reason even though a perfectly excellent model of Sephiroth holding Jenova's head was included in the mod packs, in this one field a duplicate of the chibi model is called instead of the other model. This corrects that issue.

For some reason this guy's legs are visible through the wall... Not sure what that's about, but whatever, fixed.

This won't be compatible for anyone who uses a different Aerith field model than I do, but for those who do, you might notice this little nitpick... Aerith's Holy materia was made visible in the field by our modders, which is a nice touch, except for in this scene, where it should be underwater by now! This fix removes it from ONLY the scenes where it should be gone, it remains through the rest of the game.

Install:

Extract the folder to your root Final Fantasy VII directory (where the FF7.exe or FF7_en.exe is found)
Inside the extracted folder double click on RUN ME.bat
Press Enter when instructed

Troubleshooting / Palmer reimporting issue
« on: 2014-05-21 17:21:58 »
Hey, I didn't want to necro an old thread, so I'm posting this here, hope that's ok.

I need to replace one of the field backgrounds, but Palmer only seems to let you do that if you're using Aali's custom graphics driver, by making use of it's mod path folder... Is there not a way to actually overwrite the background file and re-encode it into the flevel.lgp, so it works with the vanilla drivers?

Troubleshooting / Chocobo Racing Mod texture glitch
« on: 2014-05-09 15:21:07 »

I'm having problems with non-chibi Cloud's texture in the chocobo racing mini-game... I've tried various different mods, The Reunion, HQ Models for Unconverted STEAM/SE FF7 Rerelease, but no
matter what I use, I can't seem to make it work. Whenever I try and use the high-poly version of Cloud, he has no texture, just a purple and blue placeholder skin. Anyone have any thoughts on why this might be?

Releases / [FF7PC] No Chibis in FMVs (1.16b)
« on: 2014-05-09 11:12:58 »
DOWNLOAD: https://www.mediafire.com/?ygkx8e02ka9127j

This is a quick n' dirty way to remove the original SD models from those FMVs in which they're hard-baked. FMVs like "dumcrush", "ontrain", "fallpl" etc. feature pre-rendered versions of the blocky, chibi models, which can't easily be swapped out. So I took those files into some video editing software and had a shot at superimposing some images of the realistically proportioned character models on top.

The results are far from perfect, this is NOT the mod for you, if your idea of modding FF7's cut-scenes is to improve their visual quality, lol. But, if like me, you're more annoyed by inconsistency than by bad animation, then maybe you'll appreciate this as a way to avoid ever seeing those chibi models at any point during the game...

dumcrush (The Mideel collapse sequence)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8TIRw8ap2s&feature=youtu.be

Painted over the original models frame-by-frame
Cut some shots short to minimise work-load
Lazily rotated some backdrops to minimise work-load
Superimposed partially animated models

fallpl (Sector 7 is destroyed)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o6bE5ZsrUk&feature=youtu.be

Warning, the timing with the real-time models goes slightly out, but it's not too bad.
Painted over the original models frame-by-frame
Cut some shots short to minimise work-load
Removed minor NPCs for convenience
Superimposed still-frame models

gold3 (Gondola scene, where the Chocobo racers pass the window)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2x3Q0DsWwg&feature=youtu.be

Blurred the Chocobo riders, obscuring their proportions
Cut to adjust timings, to match up with real-time models

hiwind0 (Cloud climbs up to see the Highwind)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKd1j9sRyjY&feature=youtu.be

Simplified camera movement for convenience
Cut some shots short to minimise work-load
Painted over the original model
Superimposed partially animated model

hwindfly (The Highwind arrives to rescue Tifa)

Superimposed partially animated models
This one is a particularly complicated sequence, so expect crappiness

jairofal (Tiny Bronco crash lands)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FNHHSnBuo0&feature=youtu.be

Blurred Cloud and Cid, obscuring their proportions
Added overall motion blur to further obscure changes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cciD1AKSOE&feature=youtu.be

Painted over the original model
Superimposed still-frame model

Reduced frame-rate for a couple of seconds to minimise work-load
Painted over the original models frame-by-frame
Superimposed still-frame models
Red XIII and Cid do not appear for convenience
Cut the sequence in places to match the timing of the real-time models

southmk (Cloud falls after the Airbuster fight)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQtHaFcIWc&feature=youtu.be

Painted over the original models frame-by-frame
Used some masking so a little of the original explosion is still visible
Superimposed partially animated models

weapon2 (Sapphire Weapon attacks Junon)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQlUhOFXhTk&feature=youtu.be

weapon3 (Sapphire Weapon attacks Junon)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSeO58mxhlE&feature=youtu.be

Cut out the shots where Shin-Ra troops are visible

Also included in the download is a zip file called CannonSequenceFix.zip. This is an flevel patch which corrects an issue with the hwindfly sequence wherein Tifa's field model would remain visible on top of the entire FMV. To install this fix (which restores the sequence effectively) unzip the file and place the unzipped folder in your root Final Fantasy VII directory (where FF7.exe or FF7_en.exe are located) then double click "RUN ME.bat".

Support / [FF7] More than 750 sound effects?
« on: 2014-04-14 17:14:56 »
Hey everyone. Been playing around with sfxedit.exe, cosmo, and makou reactor amongst other tools.
Had fun adding sound effects to scenes, but hit a wall at 750 total files... Is this some kind of hard limit that the game engine can never exceed, or is this just due to the way sfxedit was coded (figuring people probably wouldn't need many more than that..)? I'd love to be able to add an indefinite number of new sounds to the game (not just replacing old ones). Any help or advice would be appreciated.
