I thought Hojo assumed Cloud was a failure, but was wrong.

To me, that seemed like an area of grey, as a clone he was a partial-success I would say. He was drawn by the Reunion, but only on a subconscious level. He was also subject to Jenova's control, just like the other clones were. But at the same time, he had a soul of his own, Jenova's power over him was not total, which is seen when his friends are able to stop him from killing Aeris. He was not a total success, but not a total failure either, and that, to me, has always seemed like a central point in things.

where did sephiroths memory problem come from? cause in the flashback seen as he was losing it he didnt remember being "created" by professor gast... is that just a part of the mako treatment? or as theorised before as to clouds memory being created from zacks war stories and imprints of tifa's memory by the jenova cells trying to reconstruct clouds mind after the first mako poisoning... well what happened to sephiroth for him to have false memories or no memories possibly...

Sephiroth had no memory problems. He was told that his mother was a woman named Jenova and that she died after she gave birth to him.

Think of it this way, do you know who your mother is, the date of your birth, and where you were born? You weren't there though, how could you possibly know for sure? The answer is simple, you are told those things. Same with Sephiroth, the reason that he didn't know was because he was never told. Essentially the same as a child of an extra-marital affair who is told that his father is his mother's husband. How could the child know any different? Not much of a point for analysis really....

As for why she was in there in the first place, I am pretty sure it was there to provide energy for the monsters.

More like to provide cells for the monsters I'd think...

Just for the sake of adding another spin to this conversation, how about this?.....

Sephiroth, in and of himself, is only human. Before anyone attacks that statement, he was infused with Jenova cells in utero by "daddy dearest" Hojo. Jenova was responsible for his unbeatability in battle, his super-human ability to weild the Masamune.

Sephiroth was thrown into the Lifestream 5 years ago. We all know this is the last that's seen of him until the Northern Crater. Sephiroth takes the head of Jenova, and by the end of it all, is thrown into the Lifestream by Cloud, still in posestion of the head of Jenova.

Jenova can't be destroyed so easily, hence the Reunion, the cells will find their way back together.

Now, what if, because of the high concentration of Jenova, Sephiroth's body merged with Jenova's head, thus beginning the Reunion. At this point, Sephiroth is dead, mentally at least. His body becomes nothing more than a primary host for Jenova, a point to which all other's will be drawn for the Reunion.

Quote
Cloud: Jenova's cells... ...hmm. So that's what this is all about. The Jenova
Reunion...

Tifa: Not Sephiroth!? You mean all this time it wasn't Sephiroth we've been
after?

At this point Cloud realizes that it was the body of Jenova, not Sephiroth, that they'd been chasing around the world. This is what trigger's Cloud's breakdown, if it wasn't Sephiroth that they were chasing, then what happened to him after the Nibelheim incident 5 yrs ago, the last time he was seen?

Why does Jenova take Sephiroth's form and not another?
Quote
Cloud: He's here. The real Sephiroth is just beyond here. It's both incredibly wicked and cruel... But it's releasing a powerfully strong will from deep within this planet's wound.

Sephiroth, or at least his body, acting as the host of Jenova's central being (the head), told the body what form to take, and what to do along the way. There are 3 possible reasons why Sephiroth's form was used:

One is simply the intimidation factor, e.g. noone will try to obstruct a black-caped man with a very mean-looking sword while he's passing through town.

Two is that Sephiroth has been dead for 5 years, so the odds of him being recognized by the average person are slim, while others will know him right away and be afraid, i.e. Cloud, President Shinra, and anyone else involved in the grand scheme.

And three is that it will entice Cloud to follow, as Cloud would make a valuable asset to the Reunion. Remember, Cloud was the only "successful" subject as a Sephiroth "clone" which is shown by the fact that he pursued what he thought to be Sephiroth all the way to the Northern Crater.

In the end, Jenova was the grand manipulator of it all, Sephiroth the host of a grander being, and Cloud the sometimes-unknowing, sometimes-unwilling puppet, and Tifa the key to unlock Cloud's ability to overcome what would have otherwise overtaken him entirely.

You can't get Aerith's 4th limit break until you get the Tiny Broncho, Ive tried and ran into that scenario, you have to do just what he says and come back later...

Quote from: CloudSquall
its becuz u have to go on 2disc, thats what triggers it

Can't be, because I always did the Wutai and pagoda side quests right away as soon as I got the Tiny Broncho.

6
It can be done at any time, all that matters is that you have Yuffie as an available character, and go to Wutai Island.

7
chibiken, Id say youre about 1/2 or 2/3 of the way through disc 1 at that point, give or take depending on
Spoiler: show
if you decide to do the Wutai subquests right away like I do.

As for her limit breaks, Id say get them, her 4th level is amazing, such a shame you only have it for a short time. It's one big cluster of helpfulness to the party, haha. It does the following IIRC:
Esuna on all party members
Restores all party member's HP fully(I forget if it recovers MP as well)
Makes party invulnerable temporarily (long enough to finish nearly any battle)

General Discussion / Enemy Skill Question!

It's been awhile since I played it, and Im probally wrong, but doesnt the All Materia (The skill one, not magic or summon)

Nope, it only uses a few of the Command materia, a couple of them aren't on that list.

Nothing to do with the mutations, the mutations came from the infusion of Mako into Soldier, not the J-cells (see the Kalm flashback and the revelation of the monsters in the reactor). The J-cells, in small amounts, gave them the regenerative ability. So by injecting cells into Red XIII and Aerith, he can prolonge their lives for the sake of long-term experiments.

Simply-put, and in no way disrespectful to those with working knowledge of the insides (halkun deserves special mention I believe), we dont know enough to do that yet.

Noone has managed to insert new data into the game, only replace data with existing data already in the game, as far as I know. Also, there are several very significant problems that have no known solutions, or several solutions to the same problem in different instances. Thats just two offhand, anyone who knows any significant amount about the programming of it all could probably provide more info on what is and isnt known, or just point you to halkun's WWW Button for the latest version of Gears.

Just a couple minor things, but just my own thoughts....

Zack and Cloud's relationship strestches back further than just that last visit to Nibelheim. Remember on the trip there, Zack made the effort to include Cloud, talking to him when he had the motion sickness, as well as Cloud's mention that his memory's had been created by the war stories that Zack had told him during their time together.

The fusion of Cloud's memory's with Zack's was not a choice of Cloud's, nor was it even something he was aware of. He looked up to Zack so much, Zack was second only to Sepheroth you might say. And even up through the Nibelheim incident and on to when he has the Mako poisoning and is taken to Midgar, Zack was always more considerate of Cloud than he thought he deserved, remember he considered himself a failure for not making Soldier, and wouldnt even face the people in his home town.

(Except for his mother, as I believe the memories of her were true, since he was from Nibelheim and Zack was not. Also remember the Inn was one bed short, which could mean perhaps that Cloud slept at home that night, and Zack's memories of Nibelheim did not entierly overtake Cloud's.)

Now remember, Jenova cells didnt alter Clouds memory because they wanted to, it was done as a defense mechanism in the need of a memory. Just as the Mako poisoning at Mideel snapped Cloud back to reality, the Mako at Nibelheim was what scambled his brain to begin with. The Jenova cells made up for what the Mako poinsing did to Cloud's mind.

When Jenova cells had to reconstruct Cloud's memories, it did so using the glorious memories of Zack as opposed to the shameful ones of Cloud, to remember as his time in Soldier to tell Tifa, because Clouds memories were ones he felt ashamed of. But this was not a move on Cloud's part, he believed fully that what Jenova presented was his true memory.

Also, what Zack and Cloud were subject to in Nibelheim was far more than just infusing them with Jenova cells and Mako like was done to Soldier. What they underwent was a far more advanced form, attempting to use Jenova cells to fashion them into clones of Sephiroth. The reason Cloud was so devastated by the procedure was that he was the weaker of the two. Zack had been infused with Jenova cells when he joined Soldier, and so, after Sephiroth slashed him in the reactor, he was not killed, and the Jenova cells went to work reconstructing his body and mind. Cloud had never before then been subjected to 'Jenova Cells and Mako Soup' infusions, thus his body and mind were damaged more severly prior to the experiment. The result, Cloud was not able to withstand the stress of the experiment, which broke his mind down even further, and was unable to do anything of his own volition until they reached Midgar and Zack was already dead.

In which case, the quotes youve given there could come across as him showing his guilt after knowing that Zack died while he lived that day outside Midgar, and he was able to do nothing to save his only friend.

If thats been at all enlightening or useful to anyone, I dont know. If Ive rambled on too much, I apologize to anyone who's time I've wasted.

It won't do miraclework but maybe I can fix something...

You'd be the hero of so many people that come here lookin for a play-through for those problems, poor little ones. j/k

Quote from: NeoS
Maybe if the ingame movies are copied to the HDD and the game searches for them on HDD the game wouldn't crash?

Thats about the only solution that Eidos FF7 support page actually endorses for half the crashes in the game, heh.

Archive / Game runs choppy.

The game really shouldnt be running choppy though, I know its integrated but it is 64 MB and MP2 and B&W run fine.  Even on software renderer the game runs choppy.

Because Software render is essentially useless, sans using it to play through a game crash. Or at least was in my experience, but I have an NVidia card so its not so hard to fix.

Unfortunately I dont know anything about the card you said, but if 1.02 and/or Rivatuner didnt work, then I cant imagine there's many other easy solutions.

Quote from: Dreakon
P.S: I tried the Direct3D test in dxdiag for DX7, 8 and 9 and it ran fine.

Except that FF7 runs under DX5, or at least was made to...

That movie is one of the few movies that has sound..... I believe that is the source of the crash.

The Shooting Star and Date movies both have sounds in 'em too. Did anyone else try twidd'ling around with the sound on those, whenever graphic adjustment couldn't fix it? Just a thought...

jep i tried to create a patch for HiRes cloud for psx but it didn`t work. it was not possible to create a booting disc

Might get in a bit o' trouble for this, but you can get a disc just for that, you get a PSX bootable disc, use that to boot any game burned from an image of a PSX disc, put it in the PSX, turn it on, then when its time to, just switch in the disc for your game.

If thats too close to the illegal side to say according to any mod, my apologies and edit as you see fit.

General Discussion / Meteorain Glitch?

Question though, Tifa's limit breaks confuses me.
Sometimes i get a miss (like a YEAH YEAH MISS, or HIT HIT MISS) , but it STILL hits, but sometimes it misses.  So what combination do you need to get to guarantee a MISS. (Like 100% of the time)

Whenever I get a MISS on the slot it just skips that single attatck and goes to the next one that had a HIT or YEAH!

Quote from: chibiken
Also, lets say I use Dolphin Kick (Level 3, first limit)*a nd i get a HIT HIT HIT*  But i kill the enemy before it reaches dolphin kick, does it count towards my SECOND limit for Level 3?

If you have hits left in a limit break, it will always keep at least one enemy alive long enough to die at the end of the chain, just like using Meteorain on one enemy which it kills, all the hits still get to connect. And I think even if you get the Miss on the first limit for the level, that limit break sequence still counts toward the end total. I believe I had a Miss for Dolphin Blow once but at the end of the battle still got the next limit for that level.

I heard about just that scene a few years back, but that was a part of a "How to get Zack in your party" rumor so I paid it no mind, as Zack can not be added to your party legitimately.... Unless someone knows something I dont. :z [/Shifty eyes]

But Ive never gone after that scene myself, knowing the instructions Id been given were to something that wasnt there.

Cloud however needs 80 kills to get LB2, and (!) 200 kills to get LB3. So usually he is the last in the team to get it..

Actually in my experience he's one of the first, because even though he need's a higher kill count, he's also the most constant character in the game. Other characters can be and are switched out from time to time, so they will kill less enimies and therefor the learning curve is set lower for them to compensate.

Making a little sense I hope? If that didnt I apologize. Im a little stoned atm, not sure if PUI is all-inclusive or just applies to the beverage side, heh.

If I remember correctly, it can be cast any time you fight the Dragon Zombie, more than just once, but only once in a fight, because the monster is dead and you'll never fight two of them in one battle.

Though I only fought a Dragon Zombie cuz I went looking for it just to get that Enemy Skill, haha. But I think it can be cast on you more than once in the course of the game, could be wrong though.

Super Nova did frog me the first time I had it used on me. The last time I played through though I had everyone with Ribbons and suffered no status change from Super Nova or Pale Horse, so I cant vouch for what Steele had to say. Maybe I was just lucky, haha.

No, there is no other option what so ever to attack Sephiroth.

Close but not quite. The last time I beat the game, I decided Id just sit and see what happened if I didnt attack. Sephiroth actually does attack after a moment, for about 9100 HP of damage. Of course Id forgotten I had counter attack materia equiped, so the couter attack killed him, and I missed out on the Omnislash there, haha.

Please, PLEASE chill out, jeez. Noone's trying to steal your work or rip you off for anything here, in case you havent noticed, the people here are quite mature and above that sort of behavior. All anyone was trying to do was mirror the patch for you, not claim it as their own. And I dont see what possible wrong that could bring, as long as they aknowledge you as the author of the patch.

1. If anyone mirrors it on their site, then it may very well be found by more people, and isnt that the point of bringing it to the forums anyway, getting it to people other than yourself?

2. Someone else mirroring it for you means less people have to download from your site directly, which in turn saves bandwidth on your end.

But do what you will, thats just my thoughts.

1. Please dont double post, edit your last post if noone has replied since.

2. You shouldnt have to sopy anything, looks to me like you got yourself a link there.

3. Id do it for you myself now, but I dont have FF7 installed anymore. It, along with everything else I had installed, fell victim to a hard drive format. God I love this "little engine that couldnt" of a computer of mine, haha.

The discs arent the problem, he just has the newly-infamous Gondola crash, akin to the Cosmo Canyon crash. There've been a few cases of it lately, though this one seems to be new to XP.

hey, Id take care of it for you, but unfortunately my computers decided to fight with me the past day or two, but Im sure someone will likely be willing to play through for you.

I'll just hope that its good, if its a disgrace then I'll just have too......... ok so I probably wouldnt do anything but come here and bitch. But thats reason enough to keep my fingers crossed! :D
