Title: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: Rayved on 2012-10-14 03:24:05
I'm posting this here because it's gonna become useable in the game once completed. Omega res novae and me had a contest this week to model the best Cid head we could do. Mine is already done modeling. We'll keep you guys updated here until it becomes a nice ready to use mod.

Here's a pic of where my project is at.

I know I could but it would take a lot of time. I never textured a human face before so I don't know how to make good shades and stuff.

Awesome texture Magochocobo, but it's not the style I want for mine. I want mine to be more realistic like.

Before noticing your avatar I would say it looked like Magochocobo! Seems like you have established your own signature in texturing! Great texture! I'd love to use this...

He's looking good, nice proportion to Cid. Question though, that dark patch near his jawline, is that gonna be facial hair?

just figured to post it here since this involves the model in this thread.

Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: Nightmarish on 2012-10-15 11:56:02
I'd say magochocobo+weemus model/texture are closer to the original.

The head on the first post is really awesome but the hair seems a bit off with all the spikes.
Although dunno if the "cartoonish" texture style from mago would fit with the rest of the models available here in qhimm.
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: whitERaven on 2012-10-15 12:24:44
I agree.. while magchocobo's work is really awesome I don't think it'll fit with the other models.. so..
solution.. magchocobo should just make textures of that style for all main characters, LoL.. that'll be awesome..

well here's my progress again I'm at loss right now for the mouth should I make the mouth slightly open(grinning) like that pic nightmarish posted?

now that I saw that image I think I'll revise the texture a bit to resemble the original more..
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result

looks good should i adjust the back of the hair and add in more and make it stick out less?
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: whitERaven on 2012-10-15 15:01:06
yup, that woud be better I think.. and if you can fix the ears, I think they're to small maybe increase the size, just a tiny bit..

I'll continue posting updates on the cid model in my thread.. I feel like I'm spamming here, :) :)peace..

not bad rayved. i updated the second postto include the renders of my model. do you want to continue this for a full model? or are you content with it as is?
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: Rayved on 2012-10-16 17:38:30
Full model! I can't just have a head that looks like this on a body that doesn't fit lol. There's something wrong with your model's mouth, you should play around with it. He looks like he's about to cry or something lol.
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: omega res novae on 2012-10-16 17:46:29
yea i struggled with the mouth a bit. afterseeing the heads completed i can step down from this "competition" i will continue if it is a prerequisite for you to continue
whiteraven are you up to texture a full model?
Full model! I can't just have a head that looks like this on a body that doesn't fit lol.
using that logic ive arrived at this statement. you cant just have a cid that doesnt fit in the game. complete overhaul. im glad youre going to undertake such a tremendous task.

whiteraven are you up to texture a full model?

Sure, I did the head already might as well do a complete texture. :)
I sent you the final head texture.. rendering in blender is not accurate it looks completely different ingame, so I removed the lights while rendering and include kimera screenshots on the image I sent.. check your pm :) :)

Yep, I agree  the lips needs a little tweaking.. though it's not really visible in-game, it's more obvious when you take a closer look on the model specially in side view,

I like this Cid's head, but I also want Magochocobo's Cid textures to be released as well. He's really good at it, and it would be a shame to see so much work put into a model without a release.
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: omega res novae on 2012-10-23 16:54:18
for rayved
save it as a .3ds.
save texture as a bmp.
convert bmp to tex using img2tex
open 3ds in pcreator.
go to view uv coords. if the uv isnt there convert the 3ds in biturn to 3ds
in pcreator select the model from the drop down menu
options select battle or field
uv coord flip on y axis if needed
file open bitmap open the bmp of your texture.
edit texture id to an id. 0 will be fine for this
save it
open kimera
double click the part youre replacing.
a menu will come up
load p file
select your new head
hit apply and exit that window
adjust the position and size its better to double click and do it in that window to avoid errors.
texture options add or change the texture to the id you selected for the model

Post by: Rayved on 2012-10-23 17:05:10
Thanks! Um could it be that you mistook Kimera for another app? Because Kimera doesn't allow me to select any part to replace. All I have is a Load and Save option.

Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: Borde on 2012-10-23 22:41:23
You will need to open the skeleton file (either the HRC or the AA file, depending if you're editing the field or battle model) for the model you want to modify. Then double click on the part you want to change and the part editor will pop up. Now just open your model and then apply the changes. The new part wil replace the old one and then you just need to save the changes to the skeleton.

Good luck.

Post by: Rayved on 2012-10-24 01:56:16
One more question. If my head appears white, does that mean the texture failed to be saved in the model file in a previous step?

Edit: Never mind I figured it out myself. I don't really understand the usefulness of the "Load BMP" step in PCreator if you have to load the texture seperatly once inside Kimera...

Aaand here's the result:

Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: omega res novae on 2012-10-24 08:33:45
If you dont load bmp then u cant set the tex id
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: whitERaven on 2012-10-24 08:39:34
As omega said.. loading the BMP is a necessary step for you to assign tex id's..

Anyway as you may have noticed.. the model in game does not have the same shading detail as those rendered in a 3d software.. so you might want to adjust your textures a little to improve the shadings.. or maybe you can just add light effects using kimera.. or better use both methods.. It could yield better results.. ;) :D ;D

If you want to keep the spikiness but still have that fading off to alpha, you can keep the mesh, and when texturing alpha the hair mask at the end -> thats how they did it in AdventChildren (albeit with ultra highrez textures and meshes).

This way, you could maintain the stylish anime hair, as well as get some quality hair textures in.

The only thing i'd add is a plan covering the base of 'cone' with more unalpha'd hair, to simulate the scalp, on the change the camera pans perpendicular to the spike and could see into his head.
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: Rayved on 2013-03-31 16:08:05
That's what I meant to say. Didn't know they did that for advent children though. I thought they used a fur and hair system. It's lot more simple and realistic, gets affected by the wind and stuff.

The answer should always be "When it's ready"
Title: Re: Cid's Head modeling contest result
Post by: cmh175 on 2013-10-26 03:52:30
As of now we have no way of importing anything other than the regular tex files. Any detail you want to see on the model in Kimera would have to be added to the texture. You can try the baked lighting effects in Kimera, but I think they tend to make everything too dark. That would be a good option if the level of lighting could be controlled. I think Cid looks great. Take your time and get it right so you're happy with it. Looking forward to checking it out.

This looks great! Are you sure you want to hand this off? You're actually past the hard part now.

I do see two issues. The left (his right) eye is having an issue. It's missing. I can fix it by flipping the normals but then the eye doesn't sit the same as the other. I think I'm also flipping the eye lashes. The lower chest piece is having the same issue but that was easier to fix. If you can help me with the eye I could import the model into Kimera and send it back to you when it's done. Are you using Blender? If you have a saved blend file without these issues I could just use that.

Sounds good, just send me a pm when you're ready no hurry. You already finished all the hard stuff so shouldn't take long at all.

Hey wanted to give you guys a quick preview of Cid so you know the project hasn't been forgotten. The model looks great in the game. Rayved has been going over it and mentioned updating a few things so I'm waiting to hear back.

I have finished a head mesh for Sephiroth:

It took me many times of testing's, rescaling's and converting's (and 57 deaths of Aerith later :'()
He looks fine in game. But he would look probably better with a true texture. So if someone want to give it a try, here is the blend file of the head:
Sephiroth.rar (http://www.file-upload.net/download-8332516/Sephiroth.rar.html)

@cmh175
The pupils of Cid doesn't seem to be focused on a spot. However he looks better as I expect it.

The Sephiroth mesh looks great. Quite a few members have shown they're good at custom textures so I'm sure someone will come up with something cool for this.

The uv mapping will need adjusting though. With some fixing this could turn out really well.

Thanks I'm pretty happy with how Cid came out. The only thing I changed on the model though was for cutting and filling holes, so everything you see is how I got the original model. Rayved mentioned he wanted to update a few things so that maybe something he's adjusting.

Well the UV map must be build before. I had removed the seams, which I had needed to make a UV map for the eyes. It would be really cool if some one would try to texture this, because...

Spoiler: show
... Cid is ready, too.  :-D

???Hmm... spoiler doesn't work. Now the surprise is gone...  :'(

I think it would be cool if someone textured Cid with magochocobo's texture that he posted on the first page. I'm playing with it a bit myself but textures and uv mapping isn't my strong suit, I'll need more practice.

Hi guys, its a wonderful face model!!
I working in a texture for cid, its no complete now, maybe it can be useful

I haven't heard from Rayved in a few weeks and I finished Cid a month ago so I uploaded the completed model. I'll do an updated release if he makes any changes. It's available here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14852.0 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14852.0)

~Ok so my release thread needs approval from an admin, weird. Well it's there when ever they make it available.

Sorry about that. The forum auto-flags threads with a lot of links in the first post (maybe even with more than one link in the first post?). The best thing you can do to avoid this is make a placeholder thread and edit the links in afterwards.

Oh ok cool thanks. I didn't think I was on any admin probation or something so that seemed weird. I've posted threads with more than one link before, but this one has several so maybe it gets flagged with more than four.
