I remember back when I played FF7 on the good ol PS1. In those days I remember distinctly that I managed to warp to one part of the game, one that may be on another disc entirely, and still be able to play it.

I would be able to fight sephiroth at the end while I was only using the first disc, and the SOLE difference was that the fmv's were the wrong ones.

And now in retrospect...I ask, why?

Why is it that I was able to continue all the way through the game on one single disc? and why do you even need the other discs if you can just rely on one?

Troubleshooting / The great re-installing!
« on: 2010-03-19 09:10:15 »
Ever since my computer crashed (roughly 5+ months ago) I have been completely burned out and unwilling to redo all of the work I put into FF7.

Now I think I am finally willing to go through the long and tedious process of re-installing all of the changes not only to the main game, but also my very computer itself (drivers and ffdshow to disable trumotion etc.).

I noticed that thankfully titeguy had made a mod that contains and applies most of my settings and mods so that's alot of work that got cut out (my sincerest thanks to your endevours titeguy).

However there are still some things that need to be done that I will need help with:

1: I need a way to make the game run more smoothly, it has just enough lag to make annoyingly long battleswirls, and 2X longer menu customizing along with longer text seqeunces and FMV's.

2: I completely forgot how to open Char.lpg so I will do some searching around till I find out again.

3: The sound loop is a bit off, and at one point the shortcut stopped working al-together...How is this relevant? Well when I went to the shortcut and clicked to run it, it told me that it couldn't find "ff7music"

4: There is no four!

5: there is a five however! The intro FMV is off with the timing of the sound. it starts out perfect, then the myusic just stops for all of 5 seconds...then continues behind the video.

I made this topic for 2 reasons: 1 was to sort of re-introduce myself since I've been gone awhile.

and 2: I feel like If anyone can help me with these technical difficulties, it's the Qhimm community.

So with all that said and done....what is up, my home skillet?

Completely Unrelated / Qhimm
« on: 2009-07-29 19:04:01 »
I have been around these ofrums for about a year... maybe a year and a half, and i have never understood the origins of this site.

why is it named qhimm?

does it stand for something?

was it originaly made for ff7 modding?

was qhimm (the person) the original maker?

so what is the whole backround info on this site?

Archive / Importing animations
« on: 2009-07-28 00:39:47 »
To anyone who would know anything technical about this: is it possible to create or import animations from other games?

I don't mean character animations, more like spells, limits, or skills.
This is more of a question to understand the game than it is me wanting to try to do it.

Troubleshooting / Someone shed some light on this please
« on: 2009-07-26 10:56:13 »
So i've been using the v1.02 patch for higher res so i can use this advent children mod. the proeblem is that everytime i finish playing and exit hte game i get all of these annoying files
the files name range from TF2D-SF2D-S3D

that makes no sense to me, as it didnt do so before...
They are all "p" files and i don't see any function that they have. if it helps i also get an app log which i didnt before

so any help on this frustrating issue is appreciated  :x

This started when i had to replace my old exe file on my desktop with a different copy of the same exact file. By that i mean i made a copy of the icon to play ff7, which somehow got deleted, and then i had to grab another one i made.

this only happens if i use the official patch and even then it didnt happen unless the game crashed from the battleswirl issue...

Hello all, this may have been covered but even after searching for about an hour here i could not find an answer so here i am with this problem.

see i just downloaded this AC mod which doesn't seem to like my computer. if i dont want wierd stuff like missing heads, clothing texture problems, and invisible bdy parts, i have to enable nvida with tnt...

problem is that when i do that all of the color for effects and text (talking text and menu text) becomes inverted in color. and if i DONT turn on nvida and tnt i get a good game BUt the characters are messed up...

i tried disabling 8-bit textures and no avail, i used the official ff7 a.02 patch which fixed text and backround but i can't enter any battles...it crashes before i even get the battle swirl...and yes i did use yamp to no avail

if it matters i have windows XP media center 2005 with omega drviers.

The most important thing here is that the field and color is fixed with the official patch but the game crashes when the battle swirl is supposed to occur
so there you have it...any help is appreciated

Edit: new thing, i had to use yamp on the official patch so now i can get into battle...but now victory fanfare ends with an error message when it's supposed to go to the results screen.

Archive / My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
« on: 2009-06-29 09:04:50 »
Some of you who know me might recall that i attempted this awhile back but never was able to do so.

To specify, what i want to do is replace a character's battle model (including his looks, animations, limit breaks, statistics, etc) with another. Last time i did not have the tools to do this, but this time i seem to have what i need and i seem to understand the process somewhat well enough.

So for starters i noted all of sephiroths model files are from saab-sacz

and the character i would like to replace is cait sith (i never use him and this would actually make him useful) but if it is possible i would like sephiroth to still keep his own files so that in flashback he is the same.

So here's where i need some help. i THINK that to replace the model i have to use lpg tools, copy and extract the models (not sure if it's possible, would like someone to clarify) to another folder, change the names to match cait sith's models, and finally move the contents into battle

the problem here is that i don't know how to change his animations so that he doesn't act like cait sith (i.e bouncing around in battle, or using his limit breaks) so i would like help there. so if anyone can clear up if what i have so far is correct and what i should do from here? and for the record i have backed up kernel and battle in case something goes wrong.

This idea was inspired from a gameshark code when I had this game a long time ago which I nor anyone else could get to work. It involved swapping vincent's entire battle model with sephiroth's so that he not only looked like sephy but also had all of his materia, weapons, and not to mention his invulnerability

But since I have absolutely no clue whatsoever on how to work with patches I was hoping that somebody with experience could make it and post it somewhere because i've heard other people want the same thng.

And if it's possible I would like to make it so that vincent's field model remained the same so that he could still keep all of his actions and lines throughout the story. If this has already done then sorry for asking but I can't look it up because there are too many topics involving different things that aren't related

Also I have a completely random question but it bugs me: how do you prnounce Masamune? I think it's pronounced (Muh-Saw-Moo-Nay)

General Discussion / sephiroth and vincent....
« on: 2008-04-15 06:03:35 »
i've been wondering for a long time why sephiroth and vincent are so closely related...by that i mean if you ever use a program/device to get vincent in your party before you actually meet him he acts like a glitchy sephiroth and for people like me who use the jenova save editor you will notice that before vince joins you the slot where he is supposed to be is replaced by sephiroth and afterwards vincent is in that slot and sephiroth is gone so can somebody explain to me why their so intwined together?

Troubleshooting / a big THANK-YOU to all who deserve it
« on: 2008-04-13 07:21:30 »
well thanks to the makers of YAMP, the jenova editor, and my personal favorite: the reconstruction project, i am now seeing and playing ff7 in a way that i have never seen before and i'm loving every minuete of it  :-D and although i can't write down all the names of those who told me how to get around certain issues i hope that you see this message so that you see your fair share of thanks.

as for any possible suggestions to improve what i've seen the only suggestion is for the reconstruction project, don't get me wrong i love how much it improved the game but i think it would be better if some of the models were formatted or changed to look less unusual like for example the flashback where you see sephiroth sitting with his hands on his lap and instead he has his arms resting in the air.....and also 40% of the game models are still blocky but i don't care much about that cuz they don't make much of an impact on the game, and finally the last issue i noticed is that the turks or anyone in a similar uniform (like reevee) have torsos which aren't in proportion to their limbs and heads. that's pretty much all i have to say so again thanks to everyone who made all this possible

hey all, i recently got to thinking about how alot of mods replace what a charecter looks like, well i saw the advant avatar patch and i thought: "wouldn't it be awesome if all the charecters had the costumes that they did in the advant children movie?" unfortunately i have no modding or programming abilities whatsoever so i was hoping that if this idea hasn't already been attempted or done before then somebody could try making one. if you can that would be really cool and i bet ALOT of people would love it.

Troubleshooting / just so i know (clearification)
« on: 2008-03-31 01:13:55 »

hi im writing/typing/whatever to ask if someone could help me out, im downloading the files for the ff7 mods (neat compiliation of patches...) and for some reason whenever i download them via torrent it says that some files are missing from jobs. now when i looked at it the only files that looked different (i looked at the progress bar) was the hand patch which showed a green progress bar. honestly i don't want that particular program since i plan to use the reconstruction project but i needed to know if that could mean that i'll have problems that i haven't noticed because all other files seem perfectly fine to me

thank you for helping  :-D

Troubleshooting / newb with little computer knowledge
« on: 2008-03-28 03:47:45 »
i am VERY new to working with files like these and having to extract, copy, move, replace, configure, decompress etc. is really difficult for me to do since i dont know exactly what some of these commands do as well as the fact that some of the instructions are clear to some people but not me for example: using YAMP "unpack" then copy to ff7 folder, i do not understand 3 things in that statement 1: by folder does it mean i just copy the folder itself to it or do i just go INSIDE folder and copy only what i want? 2: where exactly do i put them in the ff7 folder? do i just throw it in there randomly? usualy there's a specific spot that i put them. 3: when it asks me to "unpack the patches" what does that mean? im guessing it means i open them but if so then to what degree do i open the files? if anyone can help me to further understand the complicated world of computers i would be really greatful
